    • EMP Collapse
GETTING HOME HAS NEVER BEEN SO TREACHEROUS
When an EMP takes down the power grid and everything that runs on a computer chip, Melissa has no choice but to walk from her office in downtown Salt Lake City to her home in a suburb fifteen miles south. With a few co-workers to keep her company, she isn’t too worried-until they begin their journey and discover how quickly society can fall apart.
Alex, Melissa’s husband, works thirty blocks south of Melissa’s office. When everything stops working he has to decide whether to head north and find Melissa or go in the opposite direction to see if their teenaged children made it home. Only trouble is, he’s by himself and danger is everywhere.

I feel the same way. I love Apocalyptic stories. But I don’t like a lot of cussing, or vulgarity. And it’s kind of like a survivor manual. Lol. I think everyone needs a paper map…. And I am also a Christian. I actually love the morality her characters have. Because I would protect my family no matter what, but that doesn’t mean that I want to shoot someone. I would do anything I could to avoid it… I love your books.

@@ChristineKerseyBooks I would be more concerned with non-government controlled labs. Labs in the CDC have levels. Level 1 would be flu virus, salmonella, something less of a problem. At Level 4, you would have basically a space suit, and shower protocols, and a buddy system. At this level, there are failsafes to ensure samples cannot mix. Even if they did, the unit would have likely locked down due to the loss of power before they could mix. Can’t say the same for the civilian labs. There have been thousands of cases of leaks, they rarely get reported.

Just started this book, but it seems to excellent so far. One thing I noticed, there seems to be more weapons among this group of middle aged office workers than the average gang banger. For those who think that all the violence starting so quickly is unrealistic---think again. Our cities are filled with mentally unbalanced people and a whole lot of spoiled, immature people who would have no problem hurting others if they think they can get away with it. What I appreciated was that the story deals with an idea that most disaster stories don't: during a regular day, your family would be widely separated. Husband and wife at their offices, kids in different schools. Not a problem with cars, but on foot? It reminds us that before the advent of cars, there was a dammed good reason for work, home, school and groceries to all be next door to each other. Good story.

I absolutely HATE when characters see how depraved people are, only to continue to go the soft route. If you see looting and assaults during a society collapsing event, anyone who creeps up on you with one of the few working cars while you are hauling a lot of supplies, chances are he wants your stuff and/or women/girls and is one of those "I can do what I want now!" types.

Oh, millions would perish and after effects would include aircraft everywhere falling out of the sky. Rebuilding would take decades and chaos would be rampant

I mean, it's true that man is only 3 warm meals and a hot shower away from its baser instincts but I doubt that within the first few days, maybe even a week, sh*t would hit the fan. Humans are way to complaicent for that, even criminals.

Intelligence isn’t inherited in such a straightforward way, but a surprising number of people seem to think it is. With a few exceptions, two people of average intelligence who have four kids are statistically likely to have one who’s a bit thick, one who’s smart and two who are average. And two dumb people are also likely to have one kid in four who is smart. I actually had an aunt and uncle who met in special school. Both were just assessed as generally low intelligence. They had three daughters: the eldest, scholastically average but a shrewd smart, practical thinker. The second also scholastically average, but one of those almost militantly ignorant types. The youngest was very smart in every way.

As a born again Christian, who loves audio books, it is VERY refreshing to listen to books of this caliber. That, while being very realistic to the scenario, also aren’t too sexually/brutally charged. The lack of curse words,!and the upholding of modesty with this type of subject is indeed impressive. Where as with other authors, it is… well … lacking . Great job ! Can’t wait for more books like this one!

You are a fabulous writer! I want to really reiterate that, the writing, characters, & story line are top notch; probably in my top 3 favorite books/series. I love audiobooks, they keep me sane! However, it is MY opinion, you should have someone else narrate them. I listened to another of your books w/ a different narrator & it was incredible.

These E.M.P. stories always forget one thing. An EMP Strong enough to kill the power in buildings, cars, phones, and most other things. It doesn't just make them stop. It works is an electromagnetic wave goes out and friees all of those electronics that means it overloads them. That means the wires get hot and melt. That means the city would be on fire.

  • @HyggeHomestead

My thought when I realized it was probably an EMP was to head to the basement for fear of nukes coming. Then if nukes dont hit, venture out thinking it could be solar flares. Anyone else think this? I do stay strapped & have a get home bag with me at all times. I keep other provisions in my trunk like a scooter, paper map, water, ect. Wish I had a foldable bike, but for now that remains on my wishlist. Good book.
