For the record I got the specs on the drive train because I am purchasing an X739. This is in fact a 4x4 drive train. The power transfer to all 4 wheels is hydrostatic and the system varies the pressure based on the steering angle. This allows the front and rear wheels to rotate at different speeds to eliminate turf tear when turning. It is this differential aspect that requires a rear locker under certain conditions when the one of the rear tires breaks traction. So you can enjoy your 4x4 X739. You can obtain this info from John Deere to read for yourself.
I just bought a new 2023 x738. yes they are pricey but with these they are a whole new level in these. I wanted something that will last me 20 plus years, my last mower basically. also wanted the option for a pro blower attachment. These are not just made for mowing, they are made for hard work and that is why the price. Plus I wanted the rear work lights for night work, snow blowing Ect. Was worth the price to me.
I don’t know where you live, but you make me laugh! I have an X738. This thing is a MACHINE! 13K? That’s a joke! This thing with the mower deck for summer, and the snowblower, blower bracket, and driveshaft for the blower, was $22000 here in eastern Canada! Yes,you read that right! BUT, as my wife said, “We should have had that 20 years ago!” I blow out my driveway, and most of my neighbors. This thing is amazing! Fuel economy? Who cares? We get some nasty weather, and it always starts and performs as good, or better than expected. The perfect size to clean snow and mow my property. Money well spent IMO!
Oh I never said 13K "ALL IN" 13K was just for the machine and the deck. Add the bagger, the brackets, the front PTO for the snow blower etc.. Yes it's 20K or plus depending on the deal you got. Worth is a personal thing. I do think the machine is worth it, and I love the X739. I think its the best in the X700 series. I just think for the price, it should come with a bit more. Go check out the 5 things I love video.
I have the X758, no issue with fuel economy here. To be fair, the 758 is a 3cyl diesel though. When I first saw these machines I said it has to be a diesel to be worth the price. My lawn is right at 3 acres and I only use just over a 1/4 tank. I think you would regret it if you had "real 4x4" try holding in the diff lock and make a turn in your lawn, lots of damage is what you get. Keep up the videos!
Very good video, my friend. Very informative. Yes, these machines are expensive, but good! I do believe that the gas model will use a LOT of fuel. I've demo'd one before and went to the diesel model for that reason. X758 is the diesel version of this machine minus the 4 wheel steer. I can go apprroximately 9-10 hours of use on one tank of DIESEL fuel. One machine that was even better than these....referring to the 4 wheel drive system, is the X595. This was a DIESEL machine that could switch from 2wd to 4wd with a lever. ALL 4 WHEELS SPINNING IN 4WD! John Deere, PLEASE BRING BACK THIS OPTION!! And yes, this option makes it very fuel efficient. Hope this helps. Take care all! Enjoy mowing.
Pete i got mine 5 yrs ago in September same as yours i love the machine but i agree with what you said especially about the gas every time I turn around I'm filling up the tank, all that aside it's an amazing piece of equipment im glad i have thanks for your videos i enjoy them
I bought mine in the summer of 2013 and I mow 3 1/2 acres, it has a five gallon gas tank and I usually can mow everything twice on a tank of gas. It could be better but it’s a beast when it comes to mowing.
If the machine did not have a lockable rear diff, it would be your #1 complaint. You would have skid marks everywhere you turned. Turning on pavement would be comical. You want that orange button. You need that orange button.
A button or lever would be better instead of that orange foot button, but you can get automatic diff locks search how Lokka works. They are always locked and unlock when you get diff wind up.
It seems like a lot of $ for a lawn mower, but not really. You get what you pay for, in most cases. I bought a Simplicity Sovereign in 2001, paid $6100 for it with a 48" deck and tiller. That was a ton of money back than. Now 19 years later the mower still mows and runs great! My neighbor said I was nuts to spend that much on a mower. He is on his 4th mower in that time. 2 craftsmen a john deere and now a cub cadet, all the cheaper models! There are a few things I don't like about it, no power steering and the deck only goes to 3" high. It too bad that Simplicity makes nothing but junk now. If this mower ever gives up I will pay the $ for the X758!!
Funny you say that because my neighbor just purchase a simplicity mower. Looks like a nice mower. As for the price I paid.. I think it is a bit high even though it would last a lifetime. But thats just my opinion. The X758 is a great machine.
Great video! I bought my John Deere LX270, 21 years ago and it's still running strong. The Kawasaki engine is a work horse and the tractor does well on an extreme hill in the front yard, even though it only has rear wheel drive. I have a little over an acre of property, do yearly maintenance and have never taken it to the shop. I have, however, had the deck brackets welded about three time now, as the terrain is a little rough in some areas and it tough on the 12 gauge metal. No doubt John Deere's are expensive, but if I average out the cost over the years of ownership, they almost paid me to buy it. :)
I can agree with most of this. Like if you wanna put a snowblower on your X7, you pay for the blower, quickhtch, mid-PTO driveshaft and bracket, click & go brackets, weight bracket, suitcase weights, etc. It's all separate stuff and it costs a fortune to buy new. I have an X720 with most of the attachments, but they were all bought used, none of it was new,
I just bought 2008 X740 with the 60” 7 Iron and 46” snowblower for $5200. I priced out new 2023 cost, albeit 4x4 but same yanmar diesel and 54” deck with 46” snowblower…$22k out the door. They had 0% financing for 5 years, but $22k is auto loan level. I’m not that rich!
I have the X739. 4WD and why John Deere set it the way they did. 1 when mowing it doesn’t rip up the grass in tight turns like my old 4WD BX Kubota which was a serious problem and the reason I switched to the X739( true 4WD spins each tire at the same speed all the time so when turning the inside tire spins and eats up the grass). 2. It would drink more gas if it had lockers at both ends. 3. It’s a garden tractor/lawnmower and not a farm tractor/ commercial use tractor so HD 4WD is completely unnecessary.
Pete, I agree with all - though I’d replace number 5 with SEAT SUSPENSION - it is a joke. It isn’t suspended in any traditional sense and rides rough as a cob. The armrest - I wish mine came with it because on any serious slope the seat tries to slide you right out of it. However, when I tried to purchase them afterward, they’re $165...apiece! Ridiculous!
Thanks for your video friend, I have the 738 now, have owned JD's for 30 years. My biggest complaint of all time is that power bagger system! Just wasted $2200 down the toilet! 5 minutes into using this new piece of crap, and 2 circles around my maple tree my tractor started shaking and white smoke poured out of the blower! Really! The smoke was the belt burning. That pressure gauge is only an ornament.
I agree with it being a fuel hog, especially when running attachments, the 750s would b better mowers bc of the better runtime. And for the “AWD” setup, it would b nice to b “4x4” instead. Also for the pricing, it is high as u said but in the end, I think it would b worth it after awhile bc they do last forever, we have two at work for snow work and they’ve lasted awhile so far. As for the mower deck, I can’t vouch for it bc we don’t have decks for ours but I would like to try one for our slope work to see what it’s like.
You would think that at least one attachment (of your choosing) would come with the price of the tractor. Question: Did you already know about the 3WD configuration, or did you just assume it would be a simple switch from 2 to full-time 4WD before you bought it? Did they explain that to you before the purchase? Or did you learn about that on your on after the purchase? It's a great machine regardless, and these things would not sway me from purchasing one. There always seems to be something that should have been worked out better in the design! lol
Thanks for watching... Yeah I knew all about the machine before I purchased it. My neighbor has a X730 so I was aware of the machine. I would still purchase again because you never pay retail for these machines lol.... But I didn't get it for that much cheaper then retail...
The thing I hate about the x739 is the coolant leaks. Vibrations causing wear on the rubber lines, and mostly the curtis cab heating system. Pushing near 500 hours and its been in the shop several times for coolant leaks.
@@petermarte70 Several hoses have been replaced already. Issue is quality of the lines. I've had to make periodic hose clamp tightens on spots that started minor leaks until its embedded in to the point it needs to be replaced. The T fittings where the Curtis cab splice in seem to be the issue with leaks. The Curtis cab is nice with the heat. We only use it in the winter time with the 60" HD brush and the 52" plow for doing our sidewalks and curb lines. It stays nice and toasty without window fog :) Your right about the x739 being thirsty. I've calculated little over 1 gallon per hour running the 60" HD brush
The older X700 series and before that x585 AWD model I believe (don’t quote me in that) had a lever to engage 2wd or 4wd, John Deere decided to streamline the X700 Instead of 4WD to AWD to cut cost... that same year they eliminated the front loader as well. My dad has the x758 which he can mow 8 acres twice without refueling and loves it, and pulls a 42” PTO bush hog with it, it’s a great little machine... he is moving to NC so the next home owners will enjoy it I have a X530... I need a bucket loader so I will be upgrading to a 1025
Oh yea just wanted to add, my 1025 will cost around $22,000 so when you are Upgrading from a x758 from $13,000 to a 1025r they are two totally different machines and also find a great Deere dealer to deal with👍
Yeah I know the older machines were built a bit more tuff then the new X700 series model due to the Front loader options... And looking back I regret not going with the X758 to save on gas cost... I am upgrading... Stay tuned for that video and thanks for watching.
Pete's Green Machine definitely like watching - if you stay with Green I watch tractortimewithtim ... he has a 1025 and it goes through his whole experience with the machine and all accessories .
@@Cfox2000 Yes I follow Tim and watch his videos as well even though he has a different machine then me. I try to follow all the tractor channels support the guys.
@ Pete's Green machine How did you get a better price? I went to 3 different dealers. None will budge off the listed price. My set up x739 with 54" HC deck, 54" Snow Blower and Armrests with Electric Mulch is staying frim at 18500.... Please Help.
WOW that's crazy. I paid 13k and change for X739 54 inch drive over deck, 14BU bagger system, with click and go bracket, mulch kit, a extra set of blades, seat cover, arm rest, and the front quick hitch and lockout valve. I purchased my snow blower separately a few months later. and the 47" snowblower with setup was 3200. So all in I was close to 17k. I does seem very high for what your getting. I would shop around if I was you. I have a JD around the block from me and he didn't want to budge either, so I purchased mine in PA about a 2hr drive away. Good Luck
I just paid $11,095 for mine with a 60” auto connect deck. The secret is to buy the one they use at the factory to take tours through the plant. Usually less than 100 hrs on the machine and it’s never been outside
Price is relative. It will hold its value very well so when you come to sell it your overall cost of ownership will be good value I would suggest. But yeah, it ain’t cheap:)
The thing I hate about my X730 is the superior cut quality makes the rest of my property look like crap! Now I have to go around and clean that up too. John Deere should provide a minion or two to help with the additional chores.
Pete, you really do not have a clue, what a marvelous piece of equipment the X739 is. First of all, it’s not a lawnmower, it’s a lawn tractor. A tractor that you can mow your lawn with. It has hydraulics on it and two possible PTO’s ( front and rear ). You can run a number of attachments on this machine. Plow, blow snow, use a 4N1 bucket, operate a sweeper broom, mount a front grapple, lawn thatcher even attach a ball and receiver to the front and move your trailers around. In the rear you can attach a 3 point hitch, have the rear PTO installed.use a rotor tiller, land rake, box blade, plow, sprayer, grass catcher. Detach from your mower deck and drive over it, or reattached it in the opposite direction. The only reason it drinks gas is because you are operating it wide open to get that nice smooth and even cut on your lawn. The reason for differential lock, is so the tractor doesn’t chew up your yard. This is one marvelous piece of engineering. Yes it is expensive, but you don’t really understand what you have sitting in your garage. Maybe you should have purchased a lawnmower instead of a lawn tractor. Ooh, and let’s not forget, it came with a four year warranty.
Haha, 14K is cute now try 22K for curtis hard cab, 47 snowblower, 42 hydro tiller, and 60 edge mower (X585). Deere should AT LEAST include the rear PTO because the hydro tiller is a pain in the rear! First mistake, bought a gas tractor (should have went with the x595 diesel), second mistake, didnt buy a big enough tractor LOL! Dream tractor is a Kubota L60 and probably the biggest I can afford!
I just got the 1023 and it's a joke as well 4 wheel drive sucks the mower itself sucks it done a horrible job mowing . And for me it's just to big and bulky . I think a Kubota, LS or A koyote would be better because of the size and would be more work friendly .
I bought a 1023 was a big mistake it's to big and bulky . The mower does a horrible job and the 4 wheel drive also was not that great . Maybe if it was a flat yard with no obstacles the 1023 would be ok . I believe the Kubota , LS or Bobcat would be better because the are smaller .
hi, i don't have a john deere i have a 27hp cadet cube, i too think they are very expensive and it's not worth the cost, i paid my cadet cube $5000.00 and it's very solid and well built, bye
Just want to know did the wife get a item equal to or more then the DJ? It's like my Harleys...High price then you spend Hundreds of HD dollars to customize. JD is green, the color of noney!
You got ripped off bc at my john deere dealership I was quoted for a 2019 x739 4x4, 4 wheel steering so it's a zero turn bc all 4 tires turn at the same time for $11,749.00. The dealership saw you coming. I went with a plow over a snow plower, to save on cost and gas. Was also quoted on 54" deck and bagging system. The accessories for the unit that you bought is all commercial use, not residential even though you can use it for residential. You could have gotten a x500 series with a plow, but that entails a manual angle. I'm an amputee, so I needed a power angler for safety so that's why I'd had gotten a quote on a X739. Truly depends what you need, over what you want.
LOL I didn't get ripped off. I paid 10,300 for my brand new X739. With a 54" drive over deck, 14bu bagger system, electric broadcast spreader, front quick hitch, seat cover, arm rest, 54" snowblower, front PTO, front thatcher, and soft cab. go add all that up and guess what I paid above the 10,300? Sounds like you got ripped off because you paid over 1000 bucks more then i did lol.
5 complaints recap; 1)money, 2) money, 3) money, 4) Deck Height too low when fully raised , 5) you don't understand why differentials exist and that 4wd doesn't suck nearly as much gas as you think.
See now iffin I was an active Deere Dist. salesman I'd contact this feller to simply chat about his gripes. Then Id sell him another Deere in Diesel without a deck.
Four wheel drive is not any different than your typical 4X4 Truck you need a limited slip rear axle to make them three wheel. Cost is steep but I figure mine on a years of life basis and that makes total cost much less Fuel gas is thirsty but the little diesel is not and I don’t believe you can wear it out.
First you said “it’s only a lawn mower” and then you mention everything you do with it, snow blower, thatcher etc. if you hate it so much why did you buy it?
just paid for mine getting it delivered to the new house in august thanks for telling me about the diff lock I was wondering why it was there on the awd model kinda stupid it could have easily been locked from the factory and deleted for more footrest area (as if you need that lol plenty of space)
@@petermarte70 yup subbed and bell :) thanks for the honesty most people that own the product they review make these videos and put up b.s. like "I wish it wasnt so perfect"
Wow you want everything. It doesn’t have a mower engine, it’s a real engine with an oil pump, no rotary crap. Had my X724 for 13 years over 550 hours and she purrs
You’re disappointed in the machine because you paid more than market price. I have a x738 and it runs like a champ. Starts in -20 weather. Doesn’t get stuck in the snow and hauls any kind of load you put on it Maybe I had different expectations! :)
Not sure where I said I paid more then market price? I actually got a great deal on the machine. (Comparing it to sticker and online pricing). Don't mean I still can't think they are expensive for what the machine is. I gave the price that you see online, not the price I paid. I loved my X739, but that don't mean it was a perfect machine. You love your wife and kids right? But thee are also things you don't like about them. That's the way you need to look at this video, instead of taking it so personal LOL. I'm sure there are things you dislike (or the word HATE for youtube) that you would change or wish were different. I believe the X739 is the best machine in the whole X700 series... But there are some things I didn't like. Thanks for watching.
Lmao. Of course it’s not full four wheel drive while four wheel steer. It would destroy the yard and components if it were, it would bind so badly it wouldn’t be funny.
Scag mowers are nice, but here in the Appalachian Mountains, they are a fast trip to the Emergency Room at the local hospital. Many companies will not allow them on their property.

I bought my X750 used because of the price. I was able to get the attachments with the purchase from a private owner.
Good Luck
The electric mulch control kit is pushing $1000+ The standard mulch control is about $400 give or take a few.
I just paid $11,095 for mine with a 60” auto connect deck. The secret is to buy the one they use at the factory to take tours through the plant. Usually less than 100 hrs on the machine and it’s never been outside
Should have gotten the diesel, I mow for five hours
What you would love about your X759 is the resale value. It holds its value better than an average car! Traded my X738 for a X758?
Great video. I loved the commentary and the honesty. Thank you!
Pete
Did you have a tube in front to change oil?
My x738 does not
I have one by the oil filter but not in front
Yes the oil drain was in front with a tube
@@petermarte70 thank you Pete
Price is relative. It will hold its value very well so when you come to sell it your overall cost of ownership will be good value I would suggest. But yeah, it ain’t cheap:)
The thing I hate about my X730 is the superior cut quality makes the rest of my property look like crap! Now I have to go around and clean that up too. John Deere should provide a minion or two to help with the additional chores.
lol

I hope sum time soon i'll be gettin a deere
X 730 mower with a 54" deck and a TS Gator
Ooh, and let’s not forget, it came with a four year warranty.
th-cam.com/video/dxenjMAxFN0/w-d-xo.html
It should come with a three point hitch also, but I love mine!
Lol for every 5 things you'll hate about a john deere, there'll be 50 things you love! And yes, they're way better than any junk zero turns!
I sense you upgrading eventually to a sub compact. Maybe. 1023R or 1025R or possibly a Kubota BX. It’s in your future I’m sure.
Keep on tractoring.
Prophetic comment.
I believe the Kubota , LS or Bobcat would be better because the are smaller .
look at the turning radius of the 1 series of other SCUT. That is the reason you get the X7, so you can turn tight and actually mow.
Loading them on and off of trailors is tricky as the deck hangs up on the bed at the top of the ramps.
hi, i don't have a john deere i have a 27hp cadet cube, i too think they are very expensive and it's not worth the cost, i paid my cadet cube $5000.00 and it's very solid and well built, bye
does your deck ever get stuck up and won't go down on my JD x738 it does
No that never happened
@@petermarte70 ok thanks
Just want to know did the wife get a item equal to or more then the DJ? It's like my Harleys...High price then you spend Hundreds of HD dollars to customize. JD is green, the color of noney!
LOL i can spend money for the rest of my life and still not catch up to my wife LOL
Thanks for watching
@@petermarte70 yup subbed and bell :) thanks for the honesty most people that own the product they review make these videos and put up b.s. like "I wish it wasnt so perfect"
@@LoveMyKleeKai Have to be honest... Nothing is perfect in this world. Something can be great and still have faults.
And if it chewed your yard up when cutting the grass you be complaining about that too, reason for everything
@@RockStarKidsMom dude this was a year old.. I already have 50 hours on it. Stop rezing
Wow you want everything. It doesn’t have a mower engine, it’s a real engine with an oil pump, no rotary crap. Had my X724 for 13 years over 550 hours and she purrs
Lot of yards to mow to pay that off.
No mirrors
... i have the X750... price... yup expensive... i have 6 acres...the implements and everything else... iff...
Lmao. Of course it’s not full four wheel drive while four wheel steer. It would destroy the yard and components if it were, it would bind so badly it wouldn’t be funny.
tripod
No one forced you to buy it.
You should have bought a SCAG, faster mowing for half the price.
Scag mowers are nice, but here in the Appalachian Mountains, they are a fast trip to the Emergency Room at the local hospital. Many companies will not allow them on their property.
I agree Pete.
