Their ideas were great in general. Combining so much "Illegal" or forgotten technology to build an arsenat that can easily rip apart every super star destroyer in secret.. And then use it to steal some money, maybe own a senator.
Same here! Really wish they could've made references to him in shows like Star Wars: Rebels. Hell, in FOC, it's established that Tyber Zann knew Thrawn from the Imperial Academy, and Thrawn was the main villain in one of the seasons. Would've been really neat to see Tyber come into play, maybe staging a raid on an Imperial facility under Thrawn's control, inadvertently aiding the Rebels as a distraction while at the same time posing another threat to them. Or at the very least, have him in the background during a cantina scene or something. Sorry, I'm just fanboying here.
Imperial engineers: "We've got the best ion cannon in the whole galaxy!" General Grievous: "been there, done that... The Malevolence would've wrecked the Republic's fleet if that Skywalker boy hadn't steered it into a moon!"
“I hate torpedo’s, let’s destroy them.” “It’s almost not fair.” “Shields? Not for long!” “That shield generator is mine!” “You didn’t need those ion cannons did you?”
This ship would be the perfect centerpiece and a well rounded battlegroup. Along with a carrier, a dedicated battleship, and an interdicted cruiser, it would be virtually unstoppable.
Looks kinda like a giant UNSC Frigate from Halo. It definitely redefines the meaning of "Star Destroyer". I remember calling in Orbital Strikes from the Aggressor which wrecked any AT-AT that was unfortunate enough to be within it's blast radius.
Ships, such as these, should be made canon. However, certain finer details such as its mobility, firepower, & such could be Tweaked to better fit into canon & such.
@@nickvinsable3798 It is one that isn't playable anymore but is still canon. Star Wars uprising. The Devs put in a unit called Zann Racketeer before the game shutdown.
Ain't that the truth. It was either their excessive use of mass drivers, their 1 hit 1 kill glass cannons, their bombers which fired 2 bombs at a time or their starvipers which could kill capital ships in large enough swarms with their buzz droids
The only real downside was the significantly higher price of their ships, but with the Zann consortiums ability to gain credits, it was never really a problem
I like to think that the Aggressor project became the foundation for the Peltast-class Star Destroyer fielded by the Empire of the hand, signifying the Imperial origins of the vessel, both are similar in design, function and size...mostly in the spinal mounting of a giant weapon
I ask since one year for a video about the Aggressor Class. And finally we have one. This is one of the most unique Ships in Star Wars. With a complete different design. I wish. We see one or two in the next Star Wars Movie. As Star Destroyer killer. ^^
Yeah, the lack of upscaled Ion weaponry in ship to ship combat has always struck me as a little bizarre. Maybe not this big, but I'd like to see more ships with forward Ion cannons like this. Think a cook hero ship idea would be a C70 Charger that swapped out the Salon pod to mount a pair of forward facing Ion Cannons
I like the sleek desing of this vessel. Mercilles sounds like a capital ship assassin. Sneaks up on a target with cloak turned on and then unloads the main battery fire on unsuspecting victim.
To be entirely honest, I've go with something similar to a regular Victory-class Star Destroyer but equipped with v-200 ion cannons which were capable of breaking through the most advanced shields known to the galaxy prior to the Galaxy Sun's missiles or and upscaled version of the Zeta One Heavy Ion Cannon which could ionize an entire ship in a single hit.
Whenever I played is the Zahn Consortium I would always have at least one aggressor class in my fleet. I found out that having an aggressor class and a entire fleet in support of Corvettes would utterly destroy anything it came across. I've destroyed high-level space stations and even taken out the executor with that setup. And a lot of the time people use weapons that have missiles that have longer range and lock on so the Corvettes on the Consortium have Point defense lasers that completely stops any type of attack, and a single ship has a very wide area as protection so you can sit there and individually engage each one as one ends so you're essentially Invincible to missiles.
I completely agree that Ion weaponry is severely underutilized in the Star Wars Universe. The Empire could have their Star Destroyers rely mainly on Ion cannons in place of their massive number of Turbolasers. Disable an enemy capital ship (and their shields) with a barrage of Ion cannon fire, then destroy or further cripple them with precision bombardment from the still numerous and incredibly powerful Turbolasers. Also, by reducing the amount of power being used by a frankly excessive number of Turbolasers, they could outfit their Star Destroyers with point-defense turrets. I think missile and torpedo weapons are also underutilized by capital ships in the Star Wars universe, particularly those of the Empire.
If you look really closely at that V150 Planet Defender cross-section, you'll see a marking saying "1 km gap" between the generator and the emitter. That thing is absolutely massive... If the scale is to be trusted, more massive than the Imperial Star Destroyer... Quite and impressive achievement, fitting THAT on a ship. Remember the Malevolence from Clone Wars? The thing was built around its cannon. But with the plasma blaster, I'm not impressed. Would have thought fitting a several hundred turbolaser turrets, or, better, one massive turbolaser a-la the ramming laser from TLJ and a battery of about 20 articulated turrets to either reinforce the main fire or defend from these pesky starfighters, would be a better solution. But synchronising the two is a really nice touch if you ask me. The Ion may actually momentarily overload the shield just enough to deal damage...
A slight redesign would've made it even better. Loose the 2 Turbolasers and replace them with as many light laser cannons as that allows. It will have some Starfighter defense - which is it's big weakness. Causing attacking fighters and bombers to take evasive maneuvers and keep a eye on them, which will help it's own escort screening fighters in combat. And give it's own fighters more time to finish them off - doing a attack run _against_ a ship firing AA requires more caution. After all the heavy Turbolasers are almost redundant considering any Captial ships have to face the dual superweapons. And Snubfighters are more of a threat than Corvettes.
With each main weapon being so large, I think the recharge/rate of fire would really be a huge disadvantage and would rely heavily on support ships for protection in between shots.
I could totally see the Zann Consortium coming back. Though maybe as an Imperial warlord faction with no interest to be a part of the New Republic or First Order.
Despite the absolute hell Disney's 'Star Wars' has turned into, I do hope this ship is added into the canon, along with the Keldabe Class and a few others, as well as some interation of the Zann Consortium, except we only get to see little hints of it in the movies and TV shows to follow, and the main portrayal will be in future Star Wars games - in the EU, it is after all the deep, extremely corrupt underworld that has these monsters. There's some amazing new 3D models for the Keldabe and the Aggressor, adding a few more weapons and more robust overall design and plating, like 3 armor prongs near the frontal sections, really pretty. It adds much-needed detail work on the ship, while making it look even more intimidating.
In my headcanon this and the Keldabe Battleship were based on old Mandalorian Warship designs from the KOTOR Era. I bet the Aggressor wouldn't have seen Imperial Service even if the Death Star survived, and that it was Tyber Zann who gave the class life.
I remember how I cheesed the final mission in force of corruption by building 50 of these things and then just throwing them at the Executor Class SSD. The moment they lost their main guns, I'd detonate them RIGHT ON TOP of the SSD
I share your opinion about the lack of utilization of Ion weapons in Star Wars, though from a slightly different angle. I like them because they provide a nice alternative to simply destroying or trying to destroy an opponent's ship. While good for setting up a target for a devastating follow up barrage, just being able to use them to disable the target ship and then get out of the area is a big deal to me. :)
They're a little silly looking, and the game did NOT balance them correctly, but they're pretty cool. I like to imagine that since they're built from weapons schematics found in the Death Star 1 wreckage that their guns at least saw some use in other imperial superweapons like the Eye of Palpatine. (ANd honestly they are KINDA similar to the massive guns in the attack asteroids from the second to fourth level of Jedi Knight Mysteries of the Sith.

I wonder if a task force/ fleet build around this ship and a conqueror class stardestroyer with 25 star destroyers mixed imperial and tector classes, several victory type 2, a good number of raider class corvettes and lancer frigates, backed up with 10 venator class stardestroyer loaded with the hunters and tie interceptors and with a Bellator class dreadnought or an Allegiance class battle cruiser as its flagship compare to the death star. The Aggressor's certainly got big guns but it's unclear how much generation it had to back them up without a cross-section to give reactor scale vs barrel containment generation scale. (Or how good it was at waste heat management, which is a decided advantage most planetary weapons have.)
This ship was definitely a unique it terrifying weapon of mass destruction that could have been built by the empire later on but wound up in the hands of a criminal Warlord that Unleashed its full capability on both the Empire and the rebels after the battle of Endor. I really hope that Disney makes a book for this to make this Canon and I also hope to see this ship as well as remnants of the Zann Consortium in the new movies or series.

taking another look at this Star Destroyer class, I think it doesn't make sense for it to be even developed by the Empire for more reasons. First off and obviously, the purpose of this ship is a capitol ship killer, nothing else. The rebellion doesn't have enough capitol ships where this type of class would be required. In fact, the primary threat of the Rebellion would be the fighters to which this ship is particularly vulnerable. And then it doesn't fit well into the Tarkin Doctrine Order of Battle where a main line battleship like a Star Destroyer is a line of battle in itself with little need of support ships and can in fact independently control an entire star system. The Aggressor by its nature requires a support fleet for everything from starfighter support to cover fire from multiple flanking capitol ships. The only way for this ship class to be an asset would be in a fight against its own Imperial Starfleet.

Ship design looks more practical. Though, if its meant to take out a ship, why have turbolasers at all and not AA weapons. Probably drain less power than the two turbolasers its got which means they can have a few more in parts around the hull. But if I really want to see how to best use ION weapon tech, I turn to GDI.

You know shit's boutta get real when the ships start getting named "Aggressor"
What if we fit 4 of these ships as rotatable 'turrets' on top of the supremecy? Is it feasable?
Ship design looks more practical. Though, if its meant to take out a ship, why have turbolasers at all and not AA weapons. Probably drain less power than the two turbolasers its got which means they can have a few more in parts around the hull.
But if I really want to see how to best use ION weapon tech, I turn to GDI.
I have a question, why isn’t there a defense against EMP in the futuristic society of Star Wars. Also, why are there never any rear cannons on Star destroyers?
