A new stadium is the only answer. There is no point building an extension on a bungalow when you can build a new two story house. Continue to play at St James while the new stadium is getting built and then a smooth transition over
There is no way on earth that it makes any financial sense to spend 1.5 billion to add 8000 extra seats to St James' park when a brand new 75000 seater stadium is quoted at 2-3 billion.....I think the decision has already been made, they are just going through the motions
big hint from board last night at fan event, we are looking to build new stadium near by that will double revenue, alternative venue is the tricky one.
While Leazes Park would be my preferred option for a new stadium, as many others i suspect, the Town Moor, "Hoppings site" option would be ideal, it's literally just a grazing site for some cattle and folk walking their dogs, and of course people would say the Council and Freeman would not give up that site, yet we are looking at them giving up our major park in the city, being Leazes park, which i think is a much more important space with grade two listed parts to it, ie victorian terrace and bandstand etc. Add, Town Moor is only one kilometre from St James park, it's not that much of a sacrifice, maybe a 12/15 min walk up from the city centre. The area needed would only take up one twentieth of the whole green space of the town moors, so about fifty acres. And under ancient laws the freeman and council can give up "green land" for cultural purposes, and Newcastle Utd FC is the biggest cultural thing in our city easily. Yes, there would be objections of course, but there will be objections to Leazes park also, we all know that. Thing is fifty acres would build a brand new spanka, parking facilities, hotel/corporate stuff, imo it would be spectacular. and the travelling to and from the ground would be excellent from the north, east, south or west. I will go along with anything the club decides of course, I'm sure it will be fantastic. PS, could you imagine an Arch over the top of the stadium like Wembley, but it being the Tyne Bridge replica. Well we can dream can't we.😁
As a Newcastle United fan, I was originally against a new stadium. However thinking about what a new stadium would bring, the extra match day revenue and all the extras outside of football. I think a new stadium is the best choice and probably would not cost much more than redeveloping the stadium.
Redeveloping St. James’ Park would be tricky, not just because the outlying issues with listed buildings behind the stadium but a full rebuild may mean relocating and it’s not like moving to Wembley is an option or ground share with another local side given the history and rivalry between the two separate fanbase. It’s not a friendly rivalry even with Middlesbrough. The policing for both Sunderland and Middlesbrough not for the game itself but securing outer areas would be a nightmare every “home” game. This may have to be a completely new stadium and start from scratch, not what I’d prefer but exhausting all options to redevelop I can’t see any other way
We know it will be expensive but hey we have the Richest Owners in world football in charge of our team Saudia Arabia do not to things in half measure the PIF will want the new stadium to be the best in Europe & they could use Gateshead Stadium to play games it holds 20,000 which is more than what Bournemouth have.
Redevelop cost nearly £1 billion for an extra 10G seats or £1.5 billion for a brand new multi use 80,000 seater…mmmm rocket science at its best😂PIF want us no.1 well build build build. We can never have anything other than a wonky 3 stander cos of the listed buildings sooo close….only ST holders want to stay..so 36,000 v 360,000🎉 pop up stadium on the Town Moor….bigger than New York’s Central Park and what for? Dog walkers and cows😂
What's the guy talking about on interest rates being expensive and high? Yes it is but we won't be needing to take a loan to build a new stadium. The Saudis would just stump up the cash I'd think.
Time to move on. The stadium is very dated, the concourse is very narrow and the acoustics are not good because it’s lopsided being on a hill. The last time Newcastle won the league was nearly 1 century ago so you can’t speak about good memories. One off good games don’t count.
Why do these people want to stick with the old stadium? lol, it's old and falling apart, and you can't build on certain sections. lol my god, let it go.. it costs that because of everyone wants a share and money goes missing. Corrupt councillors lol are you gonna get toon fans to go to Sunderland lol don't be stupid.
Cost 😅 Brand new Supa Stadium in Leazes park, 80, 000. To hold concerts etc to max rev. As the corrupt, P.L. wont let us spend... Edit: nufc wouldn't want to play in the stadium of shite.... of all places... We can use shipping containers, like the world cup. When you have 700 billion, just in oil reserves, anything is possible....
For what the owners have done for us , It is there choice adding to st james makes no sense for extra 10k tickets But a new stadium adding another 30k or more then makes sense because of the psr SCAM RULES

Me inc. I think most NUFC fans now are on board with a new stadium, hopefully to be the envy of the 🌎...
My thoughts exactly although I’d add that a new stadium must be close to where St James is now, no moving out of the city centre.

I think that Gateshead Stadium could work, they could add seats for the Newcastle games and take them away for Gateshead games
Sounds too expensive.

Our stadium is as lopsided as our team......time to build a new one from scratch

Kingston park, 25k

New stadium on Leazes park corner as these mock ups show.

We KNOW it’s in the start of 2025
