Em, I've been a Nike fanatic since 1978 (I'm old AF.) Never at any point was the Nike lineup more disappointing. Apart from the Super Shoes, Nike has lost it for me. As for my favorite Pegasus (again, I'm old AF), the 1987 and 2004 were the best. Old AF LOL. Hope you're having a great weekend.
I’m gonna check these out!!! I’m fascinated by how shoes change over the years. But I’m with you, I feel like the Pegasus has been left behind and the super shoes are Nikes highest priority. Though I did love the Invincible and ZoomFly 4
I actually like 39. It feels like back to 36. Much lighter than 37 and 38. The bulky feeling is gone. The cushioning is less so I have to do more work to push off. It does have shallow upper feeling. Not sure if I am describing this right. Not sure if that is good or bad.
I’m really liking it so far. I have 4-5 runs and like it so much more than last years which I returned. I would like them to increase the stack height in the forefoot going forward. It’s a tad on the low end
I ran in a lot of miles in the 36 and liked it a lot. Haven’t been back to a peg since but have been doing a lot of miles these days in the OG alphafly which I’ve been loving.
Great review, I run in the Tailwind and first Pegasus 40 years ago.. . In the Vomero 15 and Pegasus 37 I found the air unit very hard. Very propulsive but hard.. I also have to throw them away because in both the units went flat in my right foot.. Like having a puncture.. Very nice for walking and off road but not for road running. Best one so far is the 32..I feel that Nike is a 2 trick pony. Alphafly and Vaporfly. Yes very loud slapping noise 🔊
I am surprised by the review. I like the shoe. I have been in Brooks for years and recently added the Saucony Ride 15 and this Pegasus to the fleet. I like it and have been pleased as I haven’t worn Nike’s in a LONG time. I like Ride 15 more but I found this a good alternate day shoe.
My first two running shoes was the 37’s and the Clifton 7’s and I can say for sure its definitely a slappy shoe, got the 38’s and it’s the same thing so hearing this is not surprising at all. Those hot spots under my feet usually start at about mile 10 and at that point the little responsiveness that was there is gone. Accurate review.
Spot on Emily. Was a time when I wouldn’t dream of running in anything but a Nike but for me they’ve been going downhill since they discontinued the wonderful lunarglide. Now sadly there’s not one shoe in their line up I would dream of buying. Outstanding review as always. Ian 🇬🇧
Thank you for this honest review!! The others are all liars!!!! I've just tested the Peg39 today, and it is absolutely garbage!!!! I have ran on Peg36-38, and none of them was great but at least fine. The Peg39 on the other hand is just sooooooo below the average on all aspect!!!! And it feels really really cheap!!! I'm pretty sure I'm better off running on one of pairs of my leather dressing shoes than the Peg39!!!!
Great review never really in to Nike for me they feel more narrow thennother brands. Do you think the ny heat had any impact on the shoe hurting your feet? And hi ruby where ever you are
I bought the Peg 39 a few months ago. Ran 75 miles in them and every single run was not only uncomfortable, but actually painful. Way too much ground feel, unstable, no cushion. I felt every ground strike in every lower body joint. They’re now my work shoes lol.
I used to love my Nike Zoom Elite's and then I switched to Pegasus's which were good until like 36....37's were so unsupportive, same with 38s. I switched to Brook's for a bit but now I'm in love with my Clifton's and Endrophin Speed's!
Pegs have always been disappointing for me. They feel like “running shoes” like sneakers that look like they could be running shoes but aren’t. There’s not enough in the midfoot area
From now on I'll become a LOYAL fan of this channel!😁 The MOST honest & blunt review on 1 of the most hyped daily trainers, the Nike Pegasus! I don't have Pegasus 39 but a Pegasus 38. It's actually my 1st Nike Pegasus shoes. Started running on it last month. The 1st 2 times I ran on it my head kept thinking "WHAT?! Why the shoes like this?! But sooo many people said good things about it?!!!" And I kept on thinking it's MY problem....until this video came out! Yup, ALL the bad points of the 39 Emily mentioned here is exactly what I feel about my 38 (including the hotspots!) Hopefully Em will review the new Asics Novablast 3 as I'm thinking of switching to Asics for daily trainers next (as Saucony doesn't have official website in my country)
"It feels thin and flat" That's exactly the way I feel about the pegasus 38. It feels harsh under my forefoot, and the ride feels dead. I really don't get it, because I do love the 37 shield.
Well, so I waited a while until I ran about 100 miles in my pair of the 39s. Initial thoughts on running shoes often fooled me. I usually am running Asics/Puma/Adidas. I didn't "really" like the Pegasus 39 on the first 3 or 4 runs (just an avg. daily trainer), but it did grow on me like crazy. It's a great shoe for me and my training. Sorry to say that. 😂 The upper feels a bit cheap tbh, but the outsole grip is worlds better than in the 38 or 36, which both I ran in before. The zoom air unit in the heel is exactly what makes this shoe work for me! It has a trampoline sensation. I do run the Novablast 2 for example as well. The Pegasus is more stable and I prefer it right now over for example my Novablast or Velocity 2. And no, Nike unfortunately is not paying me for this (I wouldn't mind though, if they want to). Also I am commenting from Germany and we usually pick Adidas, Puma, Asics, Mizuno, Saucony or even Brooks over Nike, especially when it comes to daily trainers. Don't know what you guys are doing. This shoe, which I btw purchased for like 75 bucks, imo is a great daily workhorse trainer, which will probably be able to reach 400 or 500 miles easily, since you just can't kill React foam (yeah, I know, it's a bit outdated) 🤷. Greetings from Munich. ✌
A hot spot can absolutely kill a shoe, I get it! I wonder if there's something off with the manufacturing on that zoom airpod on the right...there have been lots of comments about Nike's QC this year. :/
EXACTLY!!!!, FLAT, NO CUSHIONING!!! AWFUL! I returned the shoe to Nike online and told them my loafers have more cushioning!! I had the 37 & 38 and they're a great shoe, good cushioning 👍👍👍.. Nike really screwed up with the 39.. LMAO, Ruby was spot on on her response not to show up!! She knows her running shoes👍👍
Hey love the channel. I actually got to run with you in 2019 at the DGR meetup in Central Park before NYC Marathon. Was wondering if you had a recommendation for a neutral long distance shoe for someone who has run for almost 10 years only in stability shoes. Any recommendations would be great. Thanks so much!
Hey thanks so much!! Hm that’s a tough one. Maybe something like the Saucony Ride 15. Or if you’re looking for a really light stability shoe that doesn’t feel like a stability shoe, you can try the Saucony Tempus. For a little more neutral cushioning you can give something like that Hoka Clifton 8 a shot. Hope this helps!
The Pegasus shoes have just not been good lately to me. However, the Pegasus trail 4 wish I purchased recently. Is one of the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn in my entire life. I think Nike just needs to do away with the air zoom pods. React foam has gotten substantially better over the past few years and this iteration is far better than even the previous model. I think Nike needs to just adopt that 100% react midsole into the Pegasus 40.
My exact feeling of this shoes.. dead, slappy, funny air zoom unit (you can feel 'em but do nothing), and strange fitting (TTS a bit short, up half size too long)..
@@RunLikeHeller not holding my breath lol. I’m annoying optimistic for every brand…except Nike. Between the way they treated their women athletes and how annoying they are with constantly changing their models, I just don’t care about them anymore.
Probably the most overrated running shoe on the market, as is the brand. Even though Nike does have some good models it's mostly and predominantly a commercial sports fashion brand rather than performance brand. Pegasus line is the ultimate definition of average, a shoe which has been receiving anomally big amount of attention for no real reason.

Ouch!!! She runs 10 miles and calls it a review!! I have 50 miles in the 39 and I will use it easily take it to 400 or 500 miles. The Pegasus is a daily trainer versatile shoe. Not a TEMPO shoe or fast race day shoe. It's a middle of the pack paced run that can do a 5k up to marathons. The Peg 39 works best for steady runs and landing on the mid to forefoot it has a little kick thanks to the pod. Biggest drawback... We live in the world of super shoes. Nike doesn't call this a super shoe. It's a daily trainer!!! If you want a Tempo shoe pick up the Next percent... By the way... The next percent are very loud!!!! A very poor review after 2 small runs! Her review gets a 3 out of 10 while the Pegasus 39 gets a 7.5 out of 10. If you HATE the shoe for what it's intended don't use it! Race day... My 1st and only Nike purchase was a Peg 37. It felt exactly how you describe the Peg 39. I gave it to the Goodwill. Yes, to each his own.
It’s a great casual shoe just not for running to me
I gave my 38’s to goodwill as well. Ran a 5k and it felt like I was running barefoot on the concrete. But tbh it felt fine on the trail.
