When Phoebe meets Cliff, a hot patient with a broken leg, at the hospital, she asks Joey to act like a doctor to get more personal information about him before she went in to speak to him herself. He finds out Joey isn’t a real doctor and Cliff feels betrayed by this, as Phoebe had lied to him. Both Phoebe and Joey met someone cute in the hospital that could of been of something really special and beautiful. But on fortunately neither the cute pregnant girl Joey met and the cute wheelchair boy Phoebe met we’re never seen or heard from again, sad🩵

It’s because R&R were a big draw for the show; they kept the audience on their toes. So the creators thought that if R&R were ever a couple for good, people would lose interest and the show’s popularity would decline. I don’t blame them. Back in the 2000s, many shows had to have a central on/off couple and they would create all these obstacles for them not to be together, just so the audience would keep coming back for more. It didn’t matter if the obstacles were ridiculous or not, as long as the two characters were apart most of the time.

They were planning to end the show with this but since it got continued they delayed them getting together. I would rather have had them become a couple already. However it might have been somewhat boring in practice to have two couples out of the 6. And no big finale that we got

Fun fact: there's a deleted scebe where he eventually agrees to date Phoebe when she clarifies that they implanted embryos for the triplets. She leaves and says her friend is having a baby and they did it the old-fashioned way.
