I agree with your video. I lost my 50 lbs with diet and NO exercise. After reaching my weight goal, I've begun to exercise and I feel great. Loose that weight first!
I agree, exercise when you energy is at its lowest and your weight is its highest is going to result in failure and quitting before you can achieve benefits. Lose weight first, energy restored will drive your desire to exercise. It will be enjoyable.
This is great and your experience is one I've seen from so many people. It gives hope to those who are not able to do much. Thank you for encouraging them with your comment, which someone will read. This is how we change things, we share our story.
Kill the carbs, eat once a day and get that insulin under control. Leave exercise for the athletes and the bs fat-loss tv serials. Took me 40 years to finally learn this. Forget the rest, Bob's the best.
Bob, I want to thank you. I tried everything to lose fat and it took a long time for me to get from 225lbs down to 200lbs. I found your videos, and after seeing your transformation, immediately began to follow a high fat diet and within just 3 weeks I am down to 191lbs from 200. Thank you for the videos and the information you put out.
It is as simple as this: lose weight in the kitchen; build muscle in the gym. You don't go to the gym to lose weight. You go there to get strong and build muscle. Period!
+stevensonrf It VERY true. It's actually easier to eat nothing for short periods of time, and better for you, than to eat a low calorie diet and be hungry and miserable all day.
I'm a hardcore cyclist. I firmly believe that exercise has very little to do with losing weight. I lost most of my weight without exercising. I can say for sure, that exercise is not necessary for becoming lean.
I agree , my husband and son biked all over Portland and he never lost weight, he did enjoy it though and felt better being out in the sun, but I did the recumbrant exercise bike , I got up to 60 miles a week and all I got for it was huge muscle calves, LOL, just what i wanted.....not........
If you're a hardcore cyclist, you'll love the book "French Revolutions" www.amazon.com/French-Revolutions-Cycling-Tour-France/dp/0312316127 the author basically re-traced the Tour de France route, albeit not at full race speed, and he actually *gained* weight doing so. He was drinking a bottle of wine a day and eating at restaurants. Even the Tour riders, although they have to eat a lot, still exercise portion control, a thing that simply does not exist in the USA.
Bob, thanks for having the courage to continue to state that which is not politically correct. I have an obese friend. She hired a trainer and worked out vigorously on a regular basis for a year and did not lose one pound. Recreational walking does help indirectly for losing weight when you are eating to keep your insulin low. People often think in simplistic terms--vigorous exercise burns more calories than walking (especially relaxed walking) so it must be better. But they forget about (or don't know about) cortisol--again, a hormone. When you do vigorous exercise, your body interprets that as stress (regardless of what society thinks) and your cortisol level is high. When cortisol is high, fat burning is inhibited. Comfortable walking works because it keeps cortisol low and allows your body to burn fat. And, like you, I love to walk on trails in the woods. In fact, I download your videos (and those of other helpful folks) and listen to the audio sometimes while I'm walking. Gives me inspiration and encouragement to stick with the plan. Thanks again for your wonderful presentations.
A nice walk makes you feel good. And if you're the skip breakfast and go for a long walk and then eat later, kind of person, it fits in with Butter Bob's teachings.
I'm a competitive bodybuilder and I totally agree I've seen the same people at my gym for years look the same even after doing hours of cardio, you are to awesome keep it up
I went from over 200 lbs. to 177 lbs. My exercise comes from doing chores around the house / yard in a fasted state. Stay away from carbs, especially simple sugars. KEEP UP THE AWESOME WORK MR.BRIGGS.
This is so true. I have exercises enough for an Olympian, but I stayed fat. When I started keto, my pants did fall off, and I sat on my butt most days. Now I can exercise because I want to, not because the exercise fascists told me that was the only way to take off pounds.
So right Mr. Briggs. I have been following your advice, Not doing any more exercise than before, And the weight is coming off. I thank God for finding your channel! Keep up the good work.
To verify and confirm what Bob had to say, here is my story... I'm 59, been working out since I was 19 (yes, 40 years) and for the past 20 years, my weight has been at 220, working out 6 days a week, very intensely. From health point of view it has been a blessing. From weight point of view, zero change in 20 years. Why? Due to high intensity workout, I had become a Sugar junky to burn sugar all these years to get to endorphin kick. Guess what, I became type 2 Diabetic and no one could believe that. You workout 6 days a week and burn so much, so why would you become diabetic? Basically, my body was full of insulin at all time that I became resistant to insulin, therefore my blood sugar was all the way up there. Everyday, I burnt what I ate and not one gram of fat, because of the fact I had so much insulin. Exercise, is good for health, mind, growth hormone and etc., BUT it does not do a jack SH** to your weight. 20 years of workout and being the same weight confirms that. Now, I'm in fat burning (keto) and weight is dropping, blood pressure has dropped, appetite has dropped, I sleep better, I'm not constantly thirsty and go to bathroom. I don't get agitated, my mouth doesn't get dry... All these are related to being Diabetic.
Ben Hayat holy shit Really ? Yeah I got to get on this Keto asap Because I am one of those people that work around with a gallon of water everywhere because I get thirsty and I get dry thirsty menh
yes, Butter Bob. thank you for being so gutsy enough to tell it like it is. I walked and walked, and joined a women's gym in 2011, and the only thing I lost was money. Very hard for me to walk with aches and pains. I started losing weight once I found your channel, up late one night searching for a diet, but I didnt find another diet, I found you and your sound advice and explanation of what i was trying to figure out for so many years. Thank you for what you do. Im one of the ones you mentioned.... too achy and out of shape to even walk. Breathing heavy, sweating and knees in pain with every step. But now that I started to lose pounds..walking into a store is no longer such a battle for me, and I know it will only get better. Thank you for what you do!
Yes, you'll feel better and better and it will get easier to move as you go. That's the thing I want people to know, as they get better, they will want to move more, they will be able to move more. I'm cheering for you, keep me posted on your progress.
So true. Exercise can also spike the hormone cortisol which in turn messes with your glucose. I exercised constantly over the years and didn't lose a pound.
Just got done! Well I had to change my WOE first I've lost 50lbs in 10 months. My knees were in such my condition I couldn't exercise! When I would wake up in the mornings my feet used to hurt I couldn't hardly walk.Well my knees are healed my feet are healed from losing the weight I don't hurt no more and feel like exercising! Thank You for getting the word out there! I love your videos Mr.Bob!
There is a very apt saying I've heard ,"You can't exercise away a bad diet".100% true,I've lost over 32 lbs in 6 weeks with very little exercise.I used to be a weightlifter 30 years ago and that was heavy trainng. The amount of exercise I have been doing lately would not have even been considered a warm up.compared to what I did for weightlifting. It is so much more important to eat correctly and fast,I just lost 2kg/4.4lbs in 3 DAYS,WITH BUGGER ALL EXERCISE. As Bob says ecercise will help tone you up but fix your diet first.
Bob, you are incredible. I see it in your eyes - you know what you're talking about, you found balance and harmony in your life. And seeing this makes it even easier to understand and belive you. I watch video after video and my stereotypes about losing weight are crashing one after another. Today I even both lard and I'm going to fry something in it! Before I wouldn't even touch it. Thanks for you work, you are helping people.
I have plantar faciitis and exercising felt impossible when I would limp around most the time in pain. I was so frustrated knowing my weight was a culprit. Now I have dropped 60 lbs after keto to hflc with intermittent fasting (took 8 months) and can exercise no problem. I workout for tone, shape and mental clarity. Weigh loss is all diet.
Bob you're so right. As a medical professional I know I don't follow the standard of care by telling patients that exercise does not equal weight loss. Aerobic activity is good for your cardiovascular health and does give you a psychological boost but does little to help you lose weight. Just look a caged zoo tigers, they don't run 5 K every day. I do however recommend weight lifting...nothing crazy but lift everyday...even if it's just 5 lbs dumbbells. And as far as diet is concerned you again are very correct in recommending a high fat diet and getting sugar out of your life---that is key!! I can't stress how much damage sugar does to the body by causing a constant state of hyperinsulinemia. Just reducing sugar in ones diet does wonders!
Ohhhhh BOB!!!!! you may want to use this somewhere, I know I will be.Do you want to know how long you can SAFELY eat 1 meal a day?FOREVER!!!!!!!My co worker FINALLY approached me today after these last 6 months and asked me how I have lost so much weight.I told him, I eat 1 meal per day. Pretty much anything I want but I CHOSE low carb for the hunger control. And guess what he says to me."Ohhh, That's nothing. I have been doing that for 43 YEARS!!!!"I was FLOORD!!!!! he told me how old he is. He is 66 years old and doesn't look a day over 45. He is 6"2 and weighs 187 pounds. And in COMPLETE health. Minus a bad back, lol.He told me he has eaten a SINGLE MEAL a day since he was a sophomore in college.I WISH I had learned this SECRET 20 years ago.
My husband has only eaten one meal a day most of his life. I would always say will you please eat more as was worried for his health. He is now 50years and his biddy is exactly the same as when I met him at 18. Very lean and toned. I have changed my mind on eating more than one meal a day especially after reading around fasting info.
You are so right.I worked out 7 days a week for 30 days and lost a little weight. This make sense why I didn't loose weight.I have changed my eating and added intermittenting fasting and lower my carbs to 20.I been feeling great for the last 21 days. With 3 days of working out
I used to run half an hour every day five times a week and can't loose weight but since I do interim fasting with low carbs veggies and high fat and control protein I lose 13 pounds and hardly exercise at all. Anyway I do totally agree with you Butter Bob. Thank you for sharing this kind of video
Thanks Butter Bob ---It is hard to move when you have extra weight on, your basically carrying like a 50 lb back pack everywhere but I do like walking at parks etc. Your hair looks good!!
I did the same thing and people just roll their eyes or say something like "you should eat bread" or "oatmeal is super healthy", then an hour later their complaining about how bloated they are or how much pain they have, or all the heartburn they get. Best thing to do is keep doing what you're doing and in a few months, they'll start asking you to help them accomplish their weight problems. They don't want to hear about it until they're ready to hear about it.
Thanks for the video. I didn't know you lost your spouse. My condolences. You are an inspiration to me, sir. I started my journey the first of this month. Six feet tall, 378 down to 366lb. I bought a measuring tape at the dollar store and will start tracking my measurements. waistline at the belly button was sadly 62 inches. my short term goal is get that to 55 inches and so on. thanks again sir. I feel I'm on the right path. keep up the good work on your videos.
You can really do this and if you do what I suggest, especially keeping it REAL simple and daily short fasts, it will be EASIER than you might think. It's always easier when we do it natures way. Especially watch this video - "Why Are Fat People Hungry?" th-cam.com/video/wJhNnbRHCbE/w-d-xo.html
You are 100 percent correct. I love Dr. Jason Fung who also embraces fasting as a solution to many metabolic diseases. Am fasting right now and feeling great. But when you are 70 or more pounds overweight like me with diabetic feet and eroded discs in my back .... i can barely do chair yoga. Two walks around the block is difficult, hell getting in and out of the bathtub is a challenge. I love aquabics but you need MONEY for a membership, thank goodness i can afford that. Dr. Jason Fung has patients like me, he says how can you tell people like me to exercise anyway. I do what i can but i look at the calorie burner when doing rowing machine etc. it just makes me chuckle. I like the exercise i can do and will do more as i loose weight ... but i don't have any illustion that it will cause me to loose weight. Listen to BOB and eat natural unprocessed fat, some protein and some salad and veg. Believe me high fat, low healthy carbs and intermittent fasting works!!!
Butter Bob, you are an intelligent and articulate guy and I thank you for your vids. They have helped me greatly. When I am on the treadmill (ugh) at the gym, at 4mph, the display says I am burning 404 kcal/hr. Since 1 pound of fat is 3,600 kcal, that means that I would have to go for 9 hours to burn 1 pound of fat! That's 36 miles!!! Since a pound of fat is over 8 lbs., that means I would have to go over 288 miles to burn a gallon of fat. That's 288 mpg on fat. Geez, wish my car could get that kind of mileage. Point is- you are correct that exercise is a very small part of the equation with regard to weight loss. Experts say less than 20%, with more than 80% being diet. Thanks again!
BROTHER BOB!!!!checking in again. As of LAST Friday im down 115 pounds. I weigh in again tomorrow morning. Im HOPING to break the 300 pound barrier. And I like Liz Spencer have lost the weight, with ABSOLUTELY NO exercise.Well, I do walk to and from my house and car. And a TINY bit at work. That's 115 pounds, with NO exercise. In 6 months. Ill update you tomorrow on the weight. I HOPE I am under 300. Will be the first time in 7 years. What people WANT to hear is that all that self torture helps them lose weight. It does the opposite. It floods muscles with WATER. And you actually HOLD weight. Its GREAT for getting stronger and more muscular. Cardio actually DESTROYS muscle tissue. The only way to get the FAT off is to Eat less food, and eat less times a day. for me, I eat ONE meal a day. THATS IT! Brother Bob, I will be doing my own video series soon. And you and Jason Fung will be at the TOP OF THE CREDITS!!!!!!
+KNUCKLES FANTASTIC!!! I'm looking forward to seeing this, but what you've already done is something to jump up and down about, and now you can do just that. You and I have proven the experts totally wrong and this gives us the power of creditability with others who despair because exercise is just all of the question for them.
***** I wish I could introduce you to my buddy Phil, He does the exact same thing we do. And he has lost 224 pounds. In a year. he is my friend from Fat Secret. Low Carb combined with Fasting is the fastest, most efficient , and safest way to lose weight. And its FAR more healthy due to the OTHER benefits that we don't even talk about.
I really appreciate you endorsing this fact, it's so aggravating to have people tell me that you can eat whatever you want as long as you exercise enough, it gets my goat and is so unhelpful. Thanks Bob for being the voice of reason. :)
I came to the conclusion a couple of months ago that the right food was the key to weight loss and exercise is the key to fitness. I exercise now for helping me be deal with stress, increase stamina and flexibility, etc. After I plateaued after a 30 pound weight loss, I exercised more like crazy and lost nothing, because I was eating crap. This switch in thinking helped me exercise for enjoyment and eat better for weight loss. Lost 10 pounds after this change.
I appreciate your videos. I have been recently diagnosed with fatty liver. I am also medicated for cholesterol, high blood pressure. Dr just said lose weight, been dieting on and off for months and don't seem to lose. I am ready to try this way of eating . I am only 51 and am almost 300 lbs. I will keep you posted on my progress, I believe I am going to get healthier.☺
I really would like you to keep me posted. This diet and fasting plan is perfect for fatty liver and for cholesterol. All the things you have talked about are branches on the tree of hyperinsulin, or chronically high insulin - watch these videos for more on the connection of these problems with the root of high insulin. "The Root of Modern Illness - High Insulin" - th-cam.com/video/SDzJKaBvOGw/w-d-xo.html And "You Got To Get Sugar Out of Your Life" - th-cam.com/video/OD1M8Ycq_wg/w-d-xo.html
I agree about the exercise not being the answer to loose weight. I always wondered why all my gym visits, daily, and daily walking for years and years. I still have belly fat and am overweight. I did atkins a few years back and lost a little weight and then stopped loosing. I need to incorporate fasting. Plus I am going to do the hflc again and see if I can do what I have not been able to do for the last 30 years. When I was doing Atkiins I ate three meals a day. Wish me luck, I am so sick and tired of being sick and tired. I did the raw vegan for as long as I could stand it, lost 20 lbs and a gallbladder. Can't do it. I look at the people who are raw and their skin looks haggard. Your skin looks fantastic.
I had a bad day with eating yesterday and felt terrible. Last night I stumbled upon your videos and watched several. So, today is July the 2nd 2017 and I'm going to give this way of eating a try. Thanks for your devotion to helping others.
I'm a follower from the UK...just wanted to say thank you Butter Bob I been watching alot of your videos of late and it has been a huge wake up call for me!! I had a blood test recently and my doctor said my Glucose levels were very high at 39 and am at "pre diabetes stage and that I needed to make some lifestyle changes. I have tried all diets going, including the most well known ones..... with not much success. I started the lchf diet 7 days ago and already feel less lethargic, more energy and I have lost that "brain fog" feelng and have lost 3 lbs already. I feel very postive about this. you make so much sense. I am telling everyone who will listen about this!! I know longer want to be a slave to sugar..... Thank you one again....
Just found your channel a few weeks ago. It is absolutely thrilling to not b controlled by hunger and cravings. Thank you so much for the effort you put into your channel. It's changing lives. Blessings.
i also ate 20 net carbs for months and only lost 5lbs. i was probably eating too much protein because my base glucose hasnt gone down. imngetting ready to sign up with Dr. Fungs program to avoid getting type 2. thanks so much. I agree with so much of your info. ITs the Hormones!!
So so true..after changing my eating habits, and losing 20 plus pounds I don't hurt as much, I move with greater ease, my knees don't hurt, I literally jump out of bed in the morning!
YOU are so right!!! I exercised and when i said i had a gym membership, people snickered at me and were like oh really???!? I was so angry because i worked my ass off at the gym. I heard about Keto low carb/high fat way of eating. I have shed so much weight in a month and i barely exercise. I also have way more energy as I am burning fat rather than running off of glycogyn. It is not fair as i know some people who half kill themselves with low calorie/intense exercises and they only get fatter. i was like that for a few years. Thank goodness i came across Keto. THE KEY FOR ME IS KEEPING MY INSULIN LOW BY EATING HIGH FAT AND LOW CARB. MY BODY is still healing though from the damage but i am able to wear some of my old clothes again. great channel.
Butter Bob; we love you; and you get the science _right! You relay more information; than anyone would get at the doctors office. Nonetheless; Corporate America is polluting your wonderful videos on TH-cam with "Slimfast" ads, . ROFL.
slim fast works for people who aren't insulin resistant, my mom used it when she was alive and lost like 40 pounds and always kept it off after that, never exercised but she did like gardening.
The more I practice HFLC and lose weight, the validity of the Insulin problem is strengthened. Your videos, Bob, have given me something to hold on to. The references to research are also great as a pathway to further my own understanding of this insulin problem. I started at 249 am now at 229. My doctor for the past 15 years has recommended exercise, but never mentioned the possible problem with insulin. He probably doesn't know and just maintains the standards he was taught in Doctor school. I realize that eating my way to improved health is really the best option for me. I actually think about liver health now and stopped taking the statins the Doctor prescribed. I told him and he was ok with it, but wants to check blood in 6 months. I am curious to see the results.
You're 100% correct. until you Balance hormones you should not exercise at all. Also for those of you who don't gain weight when you eat carbohydrates you're still suffering from hormone imbalances. We all need lots of animal fat to live and thrive ad humans
Bob you're correct. I have been in a few Triathlons. A very intensive endurance sport. Swim, Bike Run I trained with people who did lots of intense training and some lost weight but many lost hardly any weight or stayed overweight.
Thank you Bob! I am new to all this and you have helped me more than you know! I have batteled weight all my life and now I feel like I have some hope! Glad I discovered you!
I really love your videos. They are very informative. I am so glad I found your channel. I finally have my appetite under control. I don't stress food anymore. I'm keeping it simple. Thank you for all your wonderful advice on your videos.
Another great video. How is it that you seem to have a CLEARER vision and more USEFUL information than even the experts? It's all about hormones (insulin), and it's all about using what you eat to TRAIN your hormone system to tend to work in a fat burning mode instead of a fat storage mode -- which means very low insulin levels as often as possible, until your body LEARNS to keep a low insulin level. Low carbs and fasting are the most straightforward and direct way to re-set your body to run on low insulin levels. Exercise is good for keeping physically fit -- an important thing for health and living; but that's all.
Thanks Bob. This helps me not feel so guilty when my demanding job (sales: some long days on the road) doesn't allow me to get home early enough to get a workout in. However, I do like to engage in some form of exercise when time permits: walks with the dog, light weights, etc.... I appreciate you vids. They help keep me on track and remain focused.
I would have hurt myself with intense exercise at my former weight. I enjoy exercise very much now, in fact crave it. But I didn't lose weight exercising. in fact, in the last year, the times i lost no weight were when I exercised.
I agree...I busted my butt with daily 4 mile runs everyday with little results...then I started eating one meal a day...and let me tell you...I can lose more weight lying in bed all day than I ever could by exercising all day.
Truth on this one. I have never lost weight through exercise. I gained. Strength training seemed to work better for me, because I wasn't burning calories and trying to replace them. I have watched many a friend fall into this trap and end up disappointed.
Frank Hill I'm doing exercise and I can see the benefits in my body. I think ketogenic diet along with exercise and 16/8 fasting will get quicker healthier results as to just following the diet alone.
another hit Butter Bob ..... u are 100% correct ..... I do super slow resistance weight training once a week ...... I'm toned and strong. Weight loss is about the food we choose to eat and a hormone issue. And by the way ..... ur looking great...... ur skin is flawless..... love ur shirt colour too ..... keep up the excellent videos and congrats on joining the million views club .....
I agreed totally exercise is not the most important factor to loose weight. Most Asians in asia don't go to the gym and most are slim and fit. most important factor to stay fit and healthy starts in the kitchen. eat real food! avoid sugar and highly processed food.
Great video! It took me years (and alot of frustration) to accept and basically come to the same conclusion that you did, that exercise alone wasn't going to solve my weight problem. That I had to focus on what I was eating. When I get asked now how much exercise I did to lose my weight, I always make sure to emphasize that it's the types of food you eat that makes the most difference, then secondly the amount/frequency. Here's to your message continuing to reach those who need it the most!
I started watching your original video "butter makes your pants fall off" about a year ago. You look amazing. I haven't had time or energy to exercise right now but just cutting my cards down and trying to get more fat and protein I have been losing weight this past year.
There are plenty of people who are sedentary that are not fat. There's your proof. However, muscle will burn more calories than just sitting around. Also, if you get a lot of exercise when you are fasting, you will burn more of that belly fat. I really like your videos.
Thank you, Bob! Another heartfelt video! The information that you share on exercise and Keto is very important. YES - exercise can help us feel good, release stress, strengthen, which are all good and part of an important quality lifestyle for overall well-being. But your information is sound - -its this diet that helps people to harmonize their insulin which then helps the body to balance and lose weight - Keep these videos coming! So many benefit from your down to earth, honest and caring attitude!
Thank you, it's always nice to hear a confirmation from a person like yourself, with much more education than me. I try to base my opinions on my own experience and then try to look for the science that will tell me why this or that is true. To me, science can only be understood in the light of experience. Without the anchor or experience, science can be used as a tool for propaganda, used to hold up this or that political, financial or social agenda and sadly, that's what has happened in the last 40 years.
+Butter Bob Briggs Yes Indeed Butter Bob You are so right. And, as an RN and Certified Personal Trainer -- I happen to LOVE exercise and it's benefits, but fat loss comes from low carb nutrition!
You´ve got a new subscriber : ) I absolutely love the down-to-earth way that you´re bringing this across , it makes it so easy torelate to. Also your evident experience with this, and the calm about you, really give a relaxed way of guidance. Thank You so much for also addressing the topic of excercise - what a relief : )
For me exercising relaxes me and lets me sleep better. I believe that reduces stress and kortisol. So in that way exercise is good from a hormonal perspective.
You are so right. I am believer in Ketogenic Diet, which now I am doing. But, I do this for strength & toning. Which is working for me. I do this 2-3 × weekly.
that's because you deserve it. I admire you a lot and how you present yourself and helping the masses who need ur example the most . we know there is a serious epidemic growing day by day . I believe this is your purpose. and again your looking beget every new video. I'm about to launch my first one ... a simple intro ... like u when u first started... I HAVE NO CLUE .. lol. ur my inspiration
I love your videos Bob. All so clear and makes perfect sense when you explain it the way you do. Keep up the good work. I lost around 24 punds with cutting carbs, without any exercise. Also I work with computers from home and have not move much or any really during the 2 months weight loss period. Just confirms the no exercise, I'm planing on getting more active though.
you look wonderful Bobbbbbbbbbbb, beautiful video quality. im lovin it. thanks about the info on exercise, i kinda figured that one out all by myself a long time ago, but i just love watching you give the sermon on it, Luv ya Bob
Hey BOB,You are 200 % rite..i have experience that in what you said. Exercise specifically for weight loss do not work.I lost my Weight some were 10-11 kgs(24 pounds) of my weight in 5 months without any exercise...and it continues to be in neutral my weight so far..i am still trying to lower my weight. Because i recently saw your Videos some 2-3 days back.I am a New Subscriber on your TH-cam channel.May be your Video might help me to say fit.And God Bless you..Keep up that Good work..
Thanks Bob. I still have it kinda in my head that I need to exercise. Bit I need to hear the truth about the calories in and calories out. Oh, and the video transitions look way smooth. Good job and thanks again
@IAmAgainst You hate it for a good reason. It makes no sense. And it doesn't make you healthy. It conditions the body to be able to do that which you are conditioning it to do. If you want to be in shape to be able to survive a catastrophy, for example, then it has a purpose. Otherwise you're wasting your time, and if you overdo it, you're doing harm to yourself. In prehistoric times, how logical would it have been for man to have wasted precious energy by doing useless, repetitive movements?
Having lost weight in many ways, I find that exercise is optional. Exercise is extremely inefficient for weight loss. Also, one needs to find the "MED" - minimum effective dose. Too much exercise creates a cortisol release which stops fat loss. For example, 35 minutes of the heart rate at 130 during uphill walking is enough to get the job done. Massive doses or high heart rate cardio or weights 3+ times a week is not good at all and causes undue stress.
You made me remember how beautiful Tennessee is mentioning Burgess Falls. My father in law lives in Sparta, Tn. You make a lot of sense. I used to talk about how my grand parents lived into there 80's and were happy and had lots of energy, but I didn't understand because they ate such a high fat diet. I had drank the kool-aid and feel for what these low fat docs had been preaching. My wife took all the fat out of our diets. I'm already feeling better after 3 weeks on your program. The first week all most killed me when i took the soda pop out of my diet!
Thanks so much. I was advised by a Dr to stay off my feet for a week (again) due to a sprang because of my attempted exercise. I was so fed up I started to research diet without exercise. Guess what kept coming up? LCHF! Keto! Lost 20 lbs already.
I've lost over 60 pounds with no exercise, just changed my diet.
Forget the rest, Bob's the best.
what do you eat in a normal day?
Now that's a very short and to the point truth, I love it.
What you just said should be the first sentence that every health professional should learn.
+Ricky Llewellyn Morris congratulations Ricky, and thank you.
It is as simple as this: lose weight in the kitchen; build muscle in the gym. You don't go to the gym to lose weight. You go there to get strong and build muscle. Period!
Here's a great saying, Bob, that i learned last week....."The less i eat; the easier it is to eat less." :-)
+stevensonrf It VERY true. It's actually easier to eat nothing for short periods of time, and better for you, than to eat a low calorie diet and be hungry and miserable all day.
True! I'm doing a 36 hour fast right now.
Butter Bob is right. Exercise has benefits, but weight loss is not one of them.
When I was in my 20s and my body mass index was below 20, I used to exercise to put weight *on*.
Actually exercise when on low carb. Eating will make you hungry!
The scale is your enemy, you will notice you sizes will change.
MrTrashcan1 Probably swollen due to food toxins stored in cellular water.
MrTrashcan1 Exercise has been proven to decrease stress hormones in the blood. BTW does your friend drink diet soda?
I'm a competitive bodybuilder and I totally agree I've seen the same people at my gym for years look the same even after doing hours of cardio, you are to awesome keep it up
I went from over 200 lbs. to 177 lbs. My exercise comes from doing chores around the house / yard in a fasted state. Stay away from carbs, especially simple sugars. KEEP UP THE AWESOME WORK MR.BRIGGS.
Exercise is for toning your mussels not for weight lose. Plus it's a great stress relief
This is so true. I have exercises enough for an Olympian, but I stayed fat. When I started keto, my pants did fall off, and I sat on my butt most days. Now I can exercise because I want to, not because the exercise fascists told me that was the only way to take off pounds.
Mark Burgh EXACTLY!
So right Mr. Briggs. I have been following your advice, Not doing any more exercise than before, And the weight is coming off. I thank God for finding your channel! Keep up the good work.
You're right just came across his channel today!
Ben Hayat holy shit
Really ?
Yeah I got to get on this Keto asap
Because I am one of those people that work around with a gallon of water everywhere because I get thirsty and I get dry thirsty menh
yes, Butter Bob. thank you for being so gutsy enough to tell it like it is.
Thank you so much. Yes, I will keep you posted!!
I love your videos Mr.Bob!
yes, this is the pattern I've seen over and over again. Thank you and congratulations on the 50 pounds.
My only exercise is a little walk every day. I've been following your advise and have lost 10 pounds in 4 weeks. Thank you!!
+KNUCKLES I LOVE that story, this tells you everything you need to know. So simple, so powerful.
My husband has only eaten one meal a day most of his life. I would always say will you please eat more as was worried for his health. He is now 50years and his biddy is exactly the same as when I met him at 18. Very lean and toned. I have changed my mind on eating more than one meal a day especially after reading around fasting info.
1 meal a day? Jesus.
Excellent video sir.
"Forget the rest, Bob's the best."
Thank you, but there are so many great videos on TH-cam that can really help people. Especially on Diet Doctor and Dr. Jason Fung.
Great message Bob! This same message was written thousands of years ago in the Bible in (1Timothy 4:8a) " For bodily exercise profiteth little".
Wished I knew about this years ago. I've been telling tons of people about this and they think I'm nuts. Specially when I tell them about eating fat.
LOL....I've stopped telling people about the fat and exercise thing and just tell them I'm doing a low carb thing
Bob, you nailed it as usual! Best video on the subject period.
Walking is a great maintenance activity. I subscribe to the idea that you cannot out exercise a poor diet.
Bobs way will make your clothes fall off!
I'm sure you will find this is the long term answer. I'm 45 & I lost about 85 lbs, and I never ever have to worry that I will ever gain it back.
Wanda, we can do this. I'm 5'2", 62 yo, and 284 pounds. I'm hopeful lchf is going to b my answer. Best of luck to you.
I really would like you to keep me posted. This diet and fasting plan is perfect for fatty liver and for cholesterol. All the things you have talked about are branches on the tree of hyperinsulin, or chronically high insulin - watch these videos for more on the connection of these problems with the root of high insulin.
"The Root of Modern Illness - High Insulin" - th-cam.com/video/SDzJKaBvOGw/w-d-xo.html
And "You Got To Get Sugar Out of Your Life" - th-cam.com/video/OD1M8Ycq_wg/w-d-xo.html
You can never over exercise a bad diet, thanks Bob.
He is so right! I'm ketogenic, mix it up with IF and have lost 45 pounds in 6 months. I do workout for strength and definitions.
Butter Bob Briggs ..........he's a good person , continue informing others !!!!!
Thanks for all your work. Your wife would be proud of you for helping so many struggling people.
I love you hair I have colored mine for 50 yrs and seeing your makes me want to stop so I may be stopping really soon hate coloring it every 4 weeks .
Blessings.
To me, that appetite control is the BEST thing about this way of life. It's true freedom.
you are so right on Bob. I exercised hard for a year with no fat loss.
i also ate 20 net carbs for months and only lost 5lbs. i was probably eating too much protein because my base glucose hasnt gone down. imngetting ready to sign up with Dr. Fungs program to avoid getting type 2. thanks so much. I agree with so much of your info. ITs the Hormones!!
Another great topic, 3B. BTW I like the improved eye contact in the latest vids where you're looking into the camera vs over the camera.
EXERCISE IS ABOUT GETTING FIT NOT LOSING WEIGHT
ROFL.
+zebonaut smith that's okay, they are actually paying me to help put them out of business. I love that.
slim fast works for people who aren't insulin resistant, my mom used it when she was alive and lost like 40 pounds and always kept it off after that, never exercised but she did like gardening.
great video... hormonal issues were mine... insulin resistance
Thanks for removing my guilt of not having the time to go to the gym. I will continue to walk at my convenience.
I think the results will be good. Really pay attention to your triglyceride HDL ratio number. I'm sure it will be much improved.
Bobs the man!!!! Very smart guy with great advise. I'm a follower
Hi Bob your message came across well to me. By the way you look nicely groom, really like your look.
You are absolutely right. Thanks for the vid.
Your approach is so simple and understandable. It is the only way to go.
I think I would have hurt myself too when i was really big, LOL.
Thanks Tim, I can relate a little, I drive a lot and work long hours too.
I agree...I busted my butt with daily 4 mile runs everyday with little results...then I started eating one meal a day...and let me tell you...I can lose more weight lying in bed all day than I ever could by exercising all day.
You're so right Bob, thank you for sharing all your common sense and truth!!i've just started and it's amazing How the cravings just go!!!
Truth on this one. I have never lost weight through exercise. I gained. Strength training seemed to work better for me, because I wasn't burning calories and trying to replace them. I have watched many a friend fall into this trap and end up disappointed.
you are so right. I did lot of exercise, but nothing happened.
And by the way .....
ur looking great...... ur skin is flawless..... love ur shirt colour too ..... keep up the excellent videos and congrats on joining the million views club .....
thanks Sygun. You're always so encouraging in your comments and I really appreciate it.
Here's to your message continuing to reach those who need it the most!
thank you.
you are the best...thumbs up for you
I started watching your original video "butter makes your pants fall off" about a year ago. You look amazing. I haven't had time or energy to exercise right now but just cutting my cards down and trying to get more fat and protein I have been losing weight this past year.
i couldnt agree more! exercise makes me feel good, gives me energy during the day. but it doesnt do a thjng for my weight!
BRAVO!!!!.... you say just like it is
great video with great info! Thank you butter bob! keep the videos coming! high fat, low carb and no high intensity exercise is the key.
+Butter Bob Briggs
Yes Indeed Butter Bob You are so right. And, as an RN and Certified Personal Trainer -- I happen to LOVE exercise and it's benefits, but fat loss comes from low carb nutrition!
You´ve got a new subscriber : )
I absolutely love the down-to-earth way that you´re bringing this across , it makes it so easy torelate to.
I exercise. I enjoy it. I weightlift.
this is good and the best exercise for reshaping the body.
You are completely correct. I used work out 2 hours a day and I was fat. I changed to a keto diet and lost weight working out half as much.
Thanks you so much. Just found your videos last week. You are helping me a lot. Please do more videos. Thanks.

Thanks Bob. I still have it kinda in my head that I need to exercise. Bit I need to hear the truth about the calories in and calories out. Oh, and the video transitions look way smooth. Good job and thanks again
WRITE A Book.....Get busy.....you have the information....you have done the research!!!!!
I'm lean and I exercise only because we have to in order to stay healthy, but I hate it with all my soul..
In prehistoric times, how logical would it have been for man to have wasted precious energy by doing useless, repetitive movements?
butter bob thank you brother this can hopefully change a lot of people's life.
LCHF! Keto! Lost 20 lbs already.
you know what, I think you are absolutely right...
