A lot of great gear in the mountain biking world (especially downhill gear) and the motocross world crosses over nicely. Leatt, IXS, Fox, Dainese, POC, and Demon all have great gear.
+1 on the Leatt knee/shin guards. I wear those every ride. I wear all the time: Leatt knees. Full face helmet. Fox launch pro elbow w/ slide pad. Scorpion exo mk2 gloves. Ankle guards. On trail or longer speed rides I also equip: G-form shorts and shirt w/ armor pads on hips, butt, ribs, sternum and shoulders. Leatt 5.5 pro HD body guard He's not joking about feeling like you're in a super suit. It's semi-false security though because while it will mitigate some damage, it won't stop you from breaking yourself if you fall wrong. Ride safe out there everyone :)
Hi Jimmy, I really like the more aggressive riding you are doing and your point is very well taken regarding the safety gear. I just moved to a more aggressive wheel and with it I ordered safety gear which is arriving today. I'm also very impressed with your helmet with a removable face guard. Finally, I think your wheel cover actually makes it look better.
Leatt type knee pads are great for moto x, and I'm sure will keep you from serious injury while riding EUC's. Pro-Tec pads have been around for as long as I have been skating, paragliding, skiing, and anything else that can crack you up. I've tried others but one thing about a hinged pad is when you bight the dirt your pad digs in. Pro-Tech pads and other like them slide. They protect your knees both on the hard and on the trails. When you bail on an EUS it's a lot like bailing on a board. When there's no chance to get your feet under you the next best option is your knees. If they dig in the next thing to hit the dirt is your face. I'm 68 and still have my knees! Other great gear for the EUC is a full face helmet, (preferably moto x type) elbow pads, roost, shoulder, and back gear. G Form under gear is an amazing addition if you're really into crashing... I've enjoyed your videos and your down to earth take on the EUC world. I'm anxiously waiting for my KS S18, but it's taking for ever!
Leatt 3DF 6.0 Elbow Guards are excellent. Put your hands out with your palms down. This is the position you'll likely be in during an EUC crash. It's the inside of your elbows that need protection. Very few guards protect the inner elbow. The Leatt guard provide that protection.
Safety is king!! The price is nothing compared to value..the value is personal safety and the machines safety.. I have a Roll.NZ cover...it’s brilliant in every aspect..a must...the initial cost is nothing compared to its value for your expensive wheel..I also have a Giro switchblade MIPS helmet, a must, Leatt knee braces...brilliant...Body armour...Asphalt shockers gloves, elbow pads and Burton wrist guards...the total was costly in money but in peace of mind...the cost was nothing...I’m 63 years old...I break easy...so regardless of age be smart, be kind to yourself and do the right thing...wear the appropriate gear...then you can ride the golden miles where ever you want...life is measured not on price...but value!! Love ya videos...well done...Mal
Safety gear is a must but can give false sense of confidence as it cannot protect against many common injuries. No gear can prevent torn ligaments or fractured collar bone that I know of. But protecting the head, wrist, elbows, and knees are still important. Speed kills. Secret to maintaining high stoke level is preventing development of tolerance to the simple, joyous, and wondrous experience like that of a child’s first ride. Then there is less need to take higher risk at older age. Ride safe and have fun 🏄🏻♂️🏄🏻♂️
One point I'd like to add is that if you learn to fall in gear you might be able to avoid those other injuries. For example, tony hawk slides on his knees when he bails in a half pipe. This strategy is accessible (he doesn't have to change his body position much to land this way) and mostly injury free. Without his knee pads this wouldn't be an option.
PhillHalloran True but even Tony Hawk has had like over 30 injuries over his lifetime I believe, including some very nasty ones while wearing all of his gear
@@ScoutMountainRanch @jimmy Chang any recommendation for size for the lazy rolling jacket? I thought of sizing down to small to be more fitted for a 30" waist
This is the reason I watch your videos! Those knee pads are exactly what I've been looking for. We're also both about the same age, weight, and risk conscious, so I trust your opinion.
I got my gear, my e-boards.....now I need to get on my Inmotion V-10. At 61 yo I appreciate your philosophy and attitude. Safety has kept me going at this for 2+ years and yeah, I can get that superhuman feel. Bummer these don't fit along with my Lazyrolling Slim FIt Cargo Pants(AWESOME) but I haven't really tried yet, and it's redundant...stay tuned on my EUC adventure !
Hey Jimmy, love the vids!! I'm 52 and I don't bounce like I used to so protection is important to me. I am currently riding with G-form knee pads (I am using triple 8 elbow pads but will be trying Demon United soon) I had my first off road crash the other day and didn't feel a thing on the knees. The material is soft and pliable and upon impact hardens. I also like Demon United and will be checking out their new Demon X D3O Smartskin knee and elbow pads.To protect my hips and coccyx, I ride in Demon United shorts.
Fox Titan Pro Elbow Guards. Here in Los Angeles and Orange County EUC riders have been switching over to them. They have been tested and proven on low and high speed accidents. Wrist Guards = FlexMeters for Flats (hard surfaces, concrete etc..). Wrist Guards= Triple 8 for Trails (soft surface, dirt etc..), hands are more movable/flexible. Full Face Helmet: For all your children. A full faceplant happens in a split second.
The hardest part of learning to ride for me was fear of messing up the EUC. So I ordered a neoprene cover and was able to learn the basics within minutes once I was no longer scared of it falling over.
I found the axis of rotation elbow guards to go with the Leatt knees. It's UFO Plast Motocross Professional Elbow Guard EVO. Only viewable on their European website. It can be found on Amazon (has the red or green triangle on the elbow) and bought in the US for about $65.
Some have mentioned G-Form already but they haven't mentioned the G-Form E-Line versions yet, specifically made for EUC's. The knee and elbow guards are pretty nice and comfy.
I think it's great to ride aggressively to expose yourself to more dicey situations so you gain more experience for those times when you really need to react quickly. In other words, you become a more experienced rider as you push for more aggressive riding and that experience will help you be a safer rider. I'm like you in regards to safety gear. I hear you already have a body protector top, otherwise I would suggest the Leatt 5.5 body protector. But just for elbows, you may consider the Leatt 3DF 6.0 elbow guard. And hope your daughters gear up with more protective gear!
+1 for Roll.nz! My wheel is from them and I got it with a bodyguard from day one. Excellent service, I mean really excellent, and no learning scratches on my ks14d at all. I think the neoprene also saved my shins quite a lot too. Seriously considering those Leatt guards too. I have other good knee pads but I think these are less bulky and easier to put on.
Kingsong don't need a cover. Two weeks ago I threw my 18 XL down the stairs of a dam. It dropped several times around 2 meters on concrete until it was at the bottom. I thought ok this was it but it was fine more or less. The only thing happened is that I bent the handle so that it would not close anymore. I took it apart, hit it with a hammer and now it's like new. Not sure if it's possible to damage the XL at all.
I've had my cover on the 18XL and found the most effective time it protected the EUC was on trail riding. Rocks with uneven edges and points could have scratched or cracked things. But I haven't tried a big stair drop yet, good to know
I’d like to have a neoprene sleeve cover for my skateboard battery pack underneath the board either that or a nice long skid plate that completely covers the bottom
Thanks Jimmy for the protective gear summary. I already asked you about these Knee Dual Axis size on your website. I already bought them and will test today or tomorrow. Hope that their general big size will be ok for summer riding. If it comes to elbow protection, I'm waiting for delivery for "O'Neal Pro III black" (one universal size). Probably tommorow will get them. They were recommended by couple of colleagues on local forum. Will see how they will fit ;)
The Leatt knee guards are great. Much better than the pullover type which you must remember to put on before shoes. And they protect the shin. The articulated knee works great.
@_solitude86_ if you don't know what biffed it is than you might want to get your head checked after you biffed it! What were you doing anyways trying to fart?
Demon V3 knee and elbow pads are awesome and I use them for my Onewheel rides. They take a beating and always look new and are very comfy. They are expensive though. Be warned the sizes run small so make sure you size up at least one or even two sizes for the proper fit.
Jimmy... had my first nosedive yestetday....holy shit. The pain afterwards was intense. The cuts and bruises will heal but my back is not good. All that to say I'm getting mini fangs. Thankfully I was wearing a helmet or I'd probably be in a coma....15 mph the onewheel stops but I continued....ouch!!! Knocked the wind out of me. WEAR SAFTEY GEAR.
Great vids Jimmy. Ima old fart just getting into this newfangled eelectric unicycle thingamabob for fun activity. Straight away, I carved up the outer box my nice shiny new KS 16s came in and gorilla taped a bra for it. Looks like....well. But it will get me through the learning phase. Now I’m shopping for bod pro. First three sessions on the wheel were spent pushing a shopping cart around Wallyworld parking lot with no unintended dismounts. Starting to get the feel of it. The lot has a slight grade, so that’s nice. By the time I get the gear, I think I’ll be ready for the free ride. All the best to you and your’s.
How do you rate the POC ARTIC SL 360 SPIN SLALOM HELMET, I’ve seen you wear it in the past and you seem to cycle through a lot of helmets. Just wondering about chin bar?
For the OW, do you feel the knee/shin pads are overkill compared to just knee pads? I bought protec knee/elbow combo which seem pretty good, but there is no shin protection.
More than shin protection you need ankle protection. Wear either proper guards or at minimum thick socks. If you've bailed out during any fast runs then you know the one wheel likes to flip around, metal edges dig into soft ankle flesh easy, added a stitch to my own ankle a few days ago, before realizing the cut is cause I had thin socks on. Lead arm elbow protection and a backpack are also must have for one wheel. I ride much more rocky and roktly ledge trails than this at greater speeds.
I look at all the sports for protection. Leatt for the knees. I like my lacrosse cell 4 elbow pads. Covers my elbow and arms very nice. To me hands are important to helping you stop in a crash. I see super bikes crash at over 100 mph so I use super bike gloves. I’m not at all afraid to put my hands down to stop me.
Hey Jimmy, what wheel would you recommend for a beginner? I live on Maui, so I think u kind of know how the roads and riding conditions are here. I was debating between the ks16x and the gotwsy msxpro. Love your vids! I got an XR inspired by your videos but now want transition to an EUC. Aloha! 🤙
I’ve always considered if I should get a euc or a one wheel and at the moment I’m going for a onewheel but I would really appreciate it if you made a video comparing the pros and cons of each thanks.
If something's not getting used, either try to rekindle that love or consider upgrading! Of all our devices, the Onewheel gets the least amount of use right now. That's why we sold most of them.
Though I’m not looking forward to learning to ride something completely different it just comes down to money. To be truely fair I’d like to keep it and get the v11. But another 2000 is steep.
Wrist guards, elbow pads and full face is what I wear every ride. Knee pads though are just so sweaty. When it cools down...no problem wearing them. We need knee pad tech to improve so they are more wearable.
@_solitude86_ I get it...but I have been riding bicycles, downhill skiing and skate boarding my whole life...mostly helmet and armor free. Zero related injuries and I am 50 years old.I really do not feel less safe riding my EUC than my 30 mph capable ebike. Falling sucks...but wrapping myself in bubble wrap seems overkill. Like you have no confidence in yourself.....EUC "riders"...maybe just video commentators... seem to be the biggest pussies...lol...Every video posted by the reviewers is nanny state...oh no full face helmet while riding..lol
Nice! This helps me out with my knee/shin guard decision. I have the Fox Titan Race knee guards in my amazon list but those Leatt Dual Axis seem better overall. Just twice the cost of the Fox Titans.
Agreed, but don't forget knees and elbows. Like Jimmy says in this video, the more gear the safer you'll feel and harder you'll ride. I'm able to ride more relaxed and have more fun while wearing all the gear all the time--even in hot Texas summer heat.
Wrist guards my dude. It only takes a few lbs of pressure to break your schaphoid, its super common even just from slipping on ice and its one of the slowest healing bones in your body most people wont realized they broke it just figuring its a sprang but a large percentage of the breaks go necrotic. The surgery also sucks and can leave you in a brace for a year or more i lived through this nightmare so trust me. Being a one armed custodian for 2 years left me with all sorts of other aches and pains years later. Would i stop action sports hell no! But id wear wrist guards no matter how dorky people think i look. Check out 187 derby guards for some less dorky looking ones
Those leatt knee pads work great! Definitely saved me in a cutoff. However, if I were you, I wouldn't wear them under clothing. Especially basketball shorts. Unless you want your clothes potentially torn apart or ripped off lol.
For me safety gear is the core essence for EUC love. If you wear proper one your love for EUC and more agressive style of riding will last. If not- well, we all saw how many people are selling fast their EUC because they tried to hard, didn't listen and what is more important - did not wear proper safety gear!
I'm conservative as well. I ride to enjoy...during my commute to work.not big on speed but as long as I have access to the power n speed when needed, I'm good✌🏽
Great video. I ride an EUC, and I too have kids. Safety is first.. but why doesn't anyone talk about safety for the people around you when riding? In my experience, I've seen my EUC launch 6 feet in the air.. i am more aware and try to be a more responsible rider. In my mind, I could have easily taken out a person.
@Ribeye Robert D th-cam.com/video/Ivai7qOQq4s/w-d-xo.html In this video by "Airwheel", they sell their EUC with a "safety auxiliary strap" for beginners. This is only a good idea for beginners, at a slower speed. For more advanced riders, it is not ideal.. and according to the road rules for where I live, it would be illegal and more dangerous.. "person shall not be tethered to vehicle", something like that. The rules in my city might not allow me ride it though.. I've read other cities rules on PEV.. and most cities (Canada/US) are pretty consistent.. anything above a certain speed needs a license or its illegal because it doesn't meet certain criteria.. like mirrors and signals for example. I like to ride my EUC.. so now I have it limited to only 32km/h.. just in case I come across the popo..
Dunno, I have a wheel cover and never use it. I consider kujipads essential for good wheel control, and making cutouts in the cover for them would be really annoying. And in the end, if the wheel smacks into concrete, and the outer shell cracks, just get a new shell, it's a cheap piece of plastic!

Just found your channel and subbed 👍🏽
What elbow pads and gloves did you go with?
Nice! Cool gear. Ride safe! Think I’m selling the XR and getting a v11.
If something's not getting used, either try to rekindle that love or consider upgrading! Of all our devices, the Onewheel gets the least amount of use right now. That's why we sold most of them.
Yes, you will not regret the v11
Though I’m not looking forward to learning to ride something completely different it just comes down to money. To be truely fair I’d like to keep it and get the v11. But another 2000 is steep.
Jimmy Chang Hey Jimmy, how come OneWheel is not being used much? Does the initial excitement wear off with OneWheel after a while?
Look at you ! all fresh out of the phone booth!!!
I think another dangerous thing about EUC is for other people when the EUC comes flying after the rider fell off. Is there any way to leash it?
People have tried leashes, but I'm not sure that makes things any safe. Just adds an additional danger factor for when you do fall.
@@freshlycharged I would rather put a bit more danger factor to myself than to accidentally kill someone’s kid
@@underthex stop riding then 😁 jk
Glad to see you are wearing a helmet!
@jimmy Which size knee guards did you buy? Looks like your Amazon link has S/M and XL. Thanks!
I got XL... Wanted a little bigger to got over my winter pants when weather gets cold.
@@freshlycharged
I wonder if the small size could be used as elbow/forearm protection?
Nice! This helps me out with my knee/shin guard decision. I have the Fox Titan Race knee guards in my amazon list but those Leatt Dual Axis seem better overall. Just twice the cost of the Fox Titans.
_solitude86_ Are they flexible on the knee like those Leatts?
Would you wear the Leatt’s on your onewheel?
Hey Jimmy, make sure you hear a click when strapping the knee/ shin guards. Happy riding!
Good point. I make sure to do that now.
What size knee pads are you wearing?
Do they have any for ninebots2,or kingsong14s?
Where do you get the cover?
If you could only get one peice of safety gear after your helmet what would it be?
Hand and wrist protection
Agreed, but don't forget knees and elbows. Like Jimmy says in this video, the more gear the safer you'll feel and harder you'll ride. I'm able to ride more relaxed and have more fun while wearing all the gear all the time--even in hot Texas summer heat.
First love the gi joe reference.
Second I'm really trying not make knee pad jokes. 🤣
Awesome 😎 thanks brother 🙏
You bet!
Have a look at an EVS g6 jacket for upper body protection. Its light and airy and makes u look like Iron man but its quality upper body protection.
You seem to be more confident off road on your EUC than your OW. Does it feel more stable to you?
EUC is way more safe and stable than the OW once you've learned how to ride.
Sweet riding
What size are those? Gonna need the same size. Thanks
L/XL
Those leatt knee pads work great! Definitely saved me in a cutoff. However, if I were you, I wouldn't wear them under clothing. Especially basketball shorts. Unless you want your clothes potentially torn apart or ripped off lol.
Hi jimmy great video “ I will be doing a video my self I love Leatt as I come from motor cross 🇬🇧🙏
I ride to enjoy...during my commute to work.not big on speed but as long as I have access to the power n speed when needed, I'm good✌🏽
YEAHHH!
+1 for leatt knee guards
Great video. I ride an EUC, and I too have kids. Safety is first.. but why doesn't anyone talk about safety for the people around you when riding? In my experience, I've seen my EUC launch 6 feet in the air.. i am more aware and try to be a more responsible rider. In my mind, I could have easily taken out a person.
Great idea for a future video.
@Ribeye Robert D th-cam.com/video/Ivai7qOQq4s/w-d-xo.html
In this video by "Airwheel", they sell their EUC with a "safety auxiliary strap" for beginners.
Where do you get your EUC covers btw?
Link in my review article: oneradwheel.com/review-euc-bodyguard-protective-neoprene-covers-by-roll-nz/
Yeah those covers are great, Im not buying another EUC without one.
Would you say electric unicycle is more prone to accidents then electric scooters?
plz jimmy talk more about one wheel
What topic do you want me to cover? I'm out of Onewheel ideas until they release a new product that interests me.
@@freshlycharged I don't blame you. They're fun, but there's only so much that can be said. EVs as a broad subject, however, can always be discussed.

One wheel sucks for the price. $2000 for like 20 miles of range and 18 mph. Outdated
Good point. The plastic shell is replaceable. There are ways to stick the pads onto the wheel cover. Maybe I'll do a video on it.
Ennui Shock Sleeve Pro Elbow Gasket
that helmet :s switch a real full face one, that jugular might fly if you take a hit and leave you chin uncovered
Will you be wearing those kneepads on your OneWheel?
I don't see why not.
What are those gloves ?
Flatland3D Fingerless Pro Protective E-Skate Gloves
Thank you
You're welcome
dilema is.. when you want to protect your euc, u cant reveal the aestethic design of euc which is very cool
Are you still using these?
Just get the same brand elbow pads. Pronounced LEE-ATT
Thanks!
