    I miss my woodstove. Much work involved, but the reward is worth it. Pipe smoking offers much reward as well. A time for self reflection, intellectual and spiritual growth and time to listen to your own voice. One doesn’t need a plethora of pipes or a large cellar collection to reap the benefits.

    Fan employs a Peltier cell which when hot on one side and cooler on the other produces a voltage and current to power a little electric motor.

    I'm glad to see the fire lit - I was concerned for you early this morning. I say that firewood warms you thrice, not twice - collecting [for those who have hills and beaches to find it on], chopping and burning. Perfect to see you enjoying a pipe beside the flames.
    For future reference, builders have to pay to get rid of old timbers - I know one or two who bring it to me, and if nothing else it means I can make lots of kindling for myself and neighbours who need some. Perhaps you could find a local chap willing to bring you the odd load to keep by for when you forget to order enough logs. Probably illegal these days - not sure? But it saves you from being cold and does him a turn too.
    I meant, and forgot, to congratulate on stilt walking. Someone gave me a pair of old plastering stilts [with the wood] and I was a terrified, incompetent disaster. Never again.

      @@michaelflaherty9697 what is not illegal these days?? The old ways, the honest ways...everything is not the same anymore.

    • @fionnaheller1873
      @fionnaheller1873 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@michaelflaherty9697 I did wonder about that - thanks. I had heard something about it ages ago but being out in the middle of nowhere you tend to not pay much attention and old timbers make cracking kindling. I would love to know how they can know if you've burned the evidence! Besides at the moment, I could burn what I want since no cars can get anywhere near me thanks to the roads being impassable. Different for Richard though, obviously!

    • @roakey1506

      Just be careful when burn lumber from construction sites. Some the wood is pressure treated lumber and the fumes in the smoke are very toxic when inhaled. Even very small amounts of smoke when opening the stove door.

    • @fionnaheller1873
      @fionnaheller1873 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      @roakey1506 Thank you for letting me know. I have never heard of that. Mostly I've been given old sheds, shop fitting type timber, 3 or 4x2's and weather boarding mainly. Unless I can find a use for it to build something, I've used that kind of thing as kindling - and at times to bulk out logs - for decades on stoves and open fires and nobody has died yet. My mother did too on occasion, now I think of it. Nothing was ever wasted back then. Perhaps that why I at 65 and she at 87 are never knocked sideways by these respiratory diseases going around - our lungs must be toxic.

    Enjoyed the video. I'm a fellow writer and pipe smoker and I agree with you 100% with your thoughts. Love the idea of a pipe smoking book. I accumulate both pipes and tobacco. Yes, here in the States tobacco is much cheaper than in Canada or Europe. But the price does keep going up, so accumulating tobacco is always wise. It will never be cheaper than it is today. And of course blends disappear or the formula gets changed.

    15:18 I’m collecting ‘reflections’ while indulging in a smooth burning quality leaf & handcrafted pipe.
    First pipe was a Cree handcrafted Native American Black Pipestone bowl found by my father picking rocks on the Canadian Prairies circa 1960. ( without wooden stem )
    Great room for you to enjoy a steaming tea & smoke while ‘reflecting’ or ‘cogitate’ing the morning Fog 🌫️ away (;

    I just finished watching your video, I seldom write comments since people don't read or care... but I guess it is the Glühwein, the solitude and the tobacco. I just finished two bowls in two different pipes, one Corsica Giants from Italy filled with a John Aylesbury Xmas Edition 2024 that I started this Sunday morning and the other a Danish Stanwell with a a Kohlhase & Kopp special edition called Ahoy.
    If you did go for a walk by the beach if I recall well what you said-after this video in your British morning...I am in Japan where it is night time. I am heating my room with my “airco” in my western room in a Japanese house while you burn some logs. I got the feeling that the video is uploaded the same way it was taken, no theatricals or fake repetition of wrong scenes like everything these days. I laughed when your pipe felt on your lap, and you picking the tobacco since it is so precious; I act the same way since the price is awful In Japan and the yen is moribund.
    I am a collector of pipes, but I don’t know why…who is going to inherit them? My oldest pipes are from the Sasieni epoch to be exact produced between 1911 and 1919, 6 beauties that were rescued after my dad’s death, and he got them from his own father who was an enemy of your country. Those 6 pipes are in pristine condition in spite of the awful time that has passed and to my family and my own country awful circumstances. Do I collect tobacco? I have some poaches and tins that I hastily bought after the Mac Baren debacle, stuff that was only produced for the Japanese market and I think it will disappear since the pipe market in this country is dying slowly. Be well and thanks for your videos.

    I've been extremely lucky recently in being able to procure one of my favourite 'unicorn blend' Germains Rich Dark Flake.
    I'm building up a cellar as I believe tobacco will be made illegal or financially out of reach for most of us.
    I started smoking a pipe during lockdown. Usually aromatics but now mostly English and vaper blends.

    I love your pipe smoking videos and would be very interested in reading a book based around it. I only just started smoking a pipe about two months ago and am trying to build a ten pipe collection/rotation, then I want to just focus on trying new blends. Currently, I have about fifteen blends I’m rotating between. I’d be interested to know what type of tobacco you tend to gravitate toward in blends. Through the blends that I’ve smoked, I discovered pretty quickly that I love Latakia.

    As for pipe smoking, I had an ex-colleague who smoked a pipe where the shank was at the top of the tobacco bowl rather than the bottom. I’m Also new’ish to pipe smoking, I have 6 pipes and do not think I need anymore unless I see something super. I have enough for rotation.
    I also have just 2 tobaccos (Peterson 965 and old Dublin) not got round to trying anything else, I’m worried that I will buy something and not like it so I’m sticking with what I like. Probably missing out but I get what I need from what I have. Curious about aromatics but rather not smoke something with additives in.
