Unbound cops are overall better in function, the way they work is a lot better than any NFS game after Blackbox came out, the spotting mechanic is great, what i wish they did were proper tactics like MW05 and that the limit of cops were higher, so you actually had a very good chase and that the cops would be used for something other than risk, make them a way to gain rep for example, or bounty again, that way for some events, money wouldn't be your only way in, nor the heat level, but also the amount of rep or bounty you've stacked up by taking the risk of engaging with the cops.
Heat cops are harder, but that's because they are almost like GTA cops, they do not care, they simply want to take you down, tactics aren't exactly employed here either, it's just chaos, add that to not being able to destroy the cops or engage with them for long and it's obviously going to feel harder, because you are less powerful to handle them than in Unbound.
So what do cops need to become right now in NFS? I say, keeping the spotting mechanic from Unbound works, bring back police tactics from MW05 and enhance them, while taking from MW05, take the way cop chases worked too by making a chase harder with the number of cops reaching 100 if the pursuit gets longer, give the player tools to help him, but not to instal in their car, but instead to use the enviroment again against the cops, racers know their streets better than cops afterall, make the arrests feel like proper penalties again, car strikes, inpounds.
Cop chases became a core feature in NFS since MW05, time to make them vital to the franchise again. Unbound nailed the fun of the races, now to nail the fun of the chases.

  • @xavmar1091

Running from cops in heat felt intense and rewarding to escape. Unbound just feels like a big speed bump when your spotted, all the mechanics they chose to add "intensity" from cops are just lazy and extremely tedious that leave you pissed off after getting the chase overwith. I too miss the rhinos, way better than spawning 2 choppers directly in the path you are going. The day/night cycle was great for deciding whether or not you feel like dealing with cops during a session, the only drawback in heat was that day/night ended up splitting the 16 player lobby down the middle, and being spotted at night can kick you from and existing race queue.

I support this comment a lot. If heat was on Ps5 the same as unbound many would most likely pick heat. While I agree with you somewhat because I’ve gotten away from the cops in heat without having a “really” fast car, the cops in heat have a pretty easy method of getting you but it was the thrill of facing those odds that was the most fun. The point was you were never supposed to go to heat level 5 without having a “really” fast car. In unbound I didn’t feel really threatened at all. They compensate “intensity” by just spawning you with helicopters after you get away which isn’t very challenging; it’s almost entirely annoying. They are on the right track as far as versatility with having different forms of cops. But I have never once thought the cops in unbound are going to bust me and I’ve been playing the game since launch.

dunno about Heat, but the amount of scripting on Unbound sometimes drive me nuts.
They constantly spawns in front of you, they follow you even while escaping (often I'm "trapped" between 3 or more cars / helicopters that followed my direction despite supposedly they lost my trace), that last damn car chasing you at like 400Km/h+ just for making the reinforcement timer ends. Plus I'm noticing some cars are more fragile than others: I risk so much being hit (or bumping them) with my Exige, cause I take more damage than them, and I almost get one-shotted if charged by an Interceptor.. I don't like the general balance of the cop chasing.. As you finish one chasing, I'd like to have some peace in my gameplay, instead u can been spotted immediately after.. plus u reach too easily level 5 (after 3 races, sometimes).. There are Nights/Days session where I play like 1/2hr of racing/roaming and 1+ hr of cop chasing.. that's clearly too much
PS I don't want to brag, but just for clarification: I'm like 1% of Dirt Rally 2 ranking, so I'm not a slow driver.. But it seems that NFS actually PUNISH fast driver (for example with the infamous slingshot mechanic)

    • @Iridiumcosmos
      @Iridiumcosmos ปีที่แล้ว +9

Car durability makes sense. Obviously the Exige is going to be the weakest car in the game because well. Look at it compared to the Panamera. Bigger cars are able to take more damage. And as far as the cops spotting you fast. You can fix that issue in the Auxiliary upgrade and equip your car with the “Undercover Racer” option. It’s literally designed to make you “camouflage” as you drive past cops.
But yeah, the cops randomly spawning in front of you is definitely annoying. I agree with you on that.

Heat police was harder to escape from, but easier to avoid contact with. In Unbound, they chase you a lot more, they harass you constantly but are easier to lose or to eliminate. In Heat, there was a lot more tension when being chased, they were hyper agressive and that made the chase epic. Also, you had to manage your health a lot more due to limited petrol station repairs, versus unlimited ones in Unbound. The probability of surviving a chase in Heat is a lot lower than in Unbound if you play the game like it's meant to, not just hiding on top of containers to evade the cops. I've been arrested many more times in Heat than Unbound, easily 10x more. I haven't managed to break the 2M Reps in a single night stint in Heat. So many rhinos coming after you that you're bound to get hit sooner or later no matter how good you are. In Unbound, the Swat pickups are a joke in comparison. Ghost know how to make cops behave like serial killers since Rivals. Criterion make nicer cops, the friendly type, take Hot Pursuit where they're essentially sitting ducks.
Races are a different story, dead easy in Heat, harder in Unbound. Graphics are day and night, Unbound just looks incredible and runs so smooth at 60fps. I wish Ghost had released a patch with a 60fps.boost for Heat.

I like these cops better than heat, it feels a lot more fair, not to mention you dont have a limit on repairs and instead you have a cool down, once you understand how they work they're rather easy, and thats fine, I think thats the point, I regularly play on intense and they did give me a hard time at first at heat level 5, but as i got better cars and understood how they function and each unit's weakness it got much easier.
In heat it was very frustrating, no matter what I did in police chases I couldn't lose the cops, and I couldn't get too aggressive with them either, the game would punish me very hard for sacrificing my own health to take cops out. What it took to lose them was often using ramps that jump over lakes/rivers.

I feel the opposite honestly, I feel like ever since the last patch for heat. The cops have been very random; most of the time they don’t even try to come after me and just end up immediately losing me. and sometimes they go all out ready to murder me. They also broke the red ring that appears around you during pursuits since you can go a few meters away from the cops and you’ll be out of their LOS, technically if you’re fast enough and turn a corner then they also lose you. Completely breaking the system put in place.
I haven’t exactly figured out how they work since then, but it seems to depend on a car’s overall acceleration, but even then the Ai gets confused and doesn’t kick in until awhile later allowing me to escape heat 5 cops at 80mph lol.
I feel like Unbound did better in terms of updating and polishing the pursuit system but they became less tactical and aggressive because of it; for example: I like how there’s a definable radius around the cops when they’re after you, making it more clear when you lose them. Also the cooldown being slower allowing more engagement and strategy. I think the system as it is, is better but they need to buff the units in terms of aggression and tactics.

    • @thecarspec_
      @thecarspec_ ปีที่แล้ว +1

Exactly, imo I prefer the system in Unbound more but prefer the aggressive behavior in Heat. Though what bugs me with Unbound cops is how they patrol after escaping/during Heat 5. It's really time-consuming and in pain in the butt trying to get to a destination since they're everywhere on the map. Is was like that in Heat too but not as excessive/annoying.

That said though, they can get pretty annoying rather than difficult once You have a quick enough car. Next NFS should bring a middle ground between Heat and Unbound and throw in some pursuit breakers like in MW and Carbon. Giving us “environmental weapons” against them would make the chases much more entertaining.

The Heat nighttime experience - high heat, a new volatile part or two in the back, not many chances to repair, the glow of the neon giving way to red and blue flashers, and just you and your car against the whole police force and you know if you try to fight, you'll lose, so you just have to run - that was some of the most intense gaming experiences I've ever had. But then again, when you learn the police's kryptonite is going over jumps, it spoiled it a bit. Also, once you had max level and all the best parts, there wasn't any very good reason to actually play at night.
By contrast, my take is that Unbound feels more 'gamified', with arbitrary restrictions that shouldn't exist (heat clears after night, not after day...and changing cars doesn't reduce heat...????) and a rock-paper-scissors selection of police units, that all have easily understood weaknesses and vulnerabilities. In many cases they can be taken out in one good hit with minimal damage to you, lured into crashes or hidden from pretty easily, so the threat to the player is not about individual police units but about the overall system... I certainly wouldn't say they are harder, but I would agree they are more annoying. As long as you keep moving and passing petrol stations you're still in the fight; I've only been busted in unbound once and that was way more my shitty car/my shitty driving than what they were doing. They are fairer to the player, but as a result of that are more robotic and systematic, and feel more like a game system than actual characters. Heat's cops were incredibly unfair (300mph off road corvettes ramming you with their infinite torque as you max your car out, etc), which made chases tenser and escaping from them way more satisfying. But I like that in Unbound there's no practical difference between day and night, it's just a different vibe.
All that said, the video wasn't a great comparison. It is comparatively easy to lose cops in Lakeshore city itself, the tight corners, z-axis changes and small blocks are pretty different from Palm City's larger blocks and longer, flatter sightlines, but a cop chase out on the west of the map where there are fewer routes or opportunities to break line-of-sight, that can feel pretty different, for Unbound we are always restricted by the need to both return to the meetups and then escape from the finish line of the very limited selection of races, rather than just choose whatever race we want that lets us keep away from the fuzz. The fact that if you have heat, they WILL spawn cops into the race every time and have them wreck your racing line if they feel like it, that's not helpful either, whereas Cops in races in heat rarely caused an issue. Personally I find escaping heat 4+ in a B class car outside the city pretty challenging, and therefore often choose to avoid B class so I have a decent chance to escape afterwards despite the fact I too really enjoy low-level races.

  • @bombmanu

i think the cops are too simple in unbound (especially at heat 1-4)
-The needle tapes are too weak
-The roadblocks come too seldom and in the wrong place
-the cop AI can only destroy you and not contain you well
-the arrest bar takes too long
-There is no longer a kill switch
-The cops break down too easily, which means you could just destroy them all
edit: +I forget the rinos that comes in front of you
and these are things that criterion games could actually change quickly, they could maybe do an extra cop update at some point where they add another mode like team escape or something🤔👌 (sorry for my weird english, I'm from germany😆)

Perhaps after each race, the other racers should remain roaming the streets, with their own police chases, and the area within proximity (the different zones in the game) to the finishing location of the race should have police activity, with very sparce cops that roam areas that are not at all related to the race.
      If that makes sense

I can agree with the "annoying" statement. Once you figure out how to avoid them, take them out, or just dummy them, they are pretty easy. But they have their moments. Like when you'll be racing around Kennedy Test Track and they'll jump off the road onto the track just to t-bone you then get lost 3 seconds later. Or when you hit one just once and then they retaliate and proceed to run into you at least 20 times in a span of 4 seconds. But the fact that your heat level doesn't increase during pursuits is so dumb.

If you learn the map, every meet up spot has a ramp that lands you right next to it, and a hiding space near by. There is a "anti cop" route to each of the event locations. Seems like NFS Unbound cops are too easy in my opinion. If u can outrun them in a B car, on level 5, it’s too easy. In NFS Heat the cops were so difficult that u had to be careful what heat level u went into if you were in lower ranked car. It added a new dynamic that made the cops feared, but rewarding if you made it out of level 5 chase. In my opinion I love that dynamic, I love that you can’t just hide from them, or take them out one by one. Instead, you have to run away or get caught. I love how they use actual police tactics (like boxing in, or pitting). Meanwhile, in Unbound they just charge head first into barriers, other racers, or yourself, with no consideration to their own life. They’re so stupid that u can just hide and they just give up.
In the end I agree with BlackPantha, the Unbound cops are too easy, but it is cool when you take them down, and the Heat police use real tactics, but are too difficult, because they are like driving boulders. There needs to be a hybrid system, in which the cops use police tactics, but aren’t driving boulders.

I hate the transitions in NFS Unbound and the solo mechanics(the weekly system) and the flying sniper cop spawns (cops sniping at end of races, cops flying where there is no ramp). I miss fast travel, or at least the option.
The feel of Unbound is better though, definitely grittier, intense at high speeds and it works. I've had many instances of Heat just giving up at high speeds and crashing into air. Plus non-off-road tires in Unbound don't make my car slam to a halt in like in Heat when I touch dirt. And the races getting bigger as the class you race in goes up was a great choice in Unbound. Plus the traffic doesn't go full GTA. A Heat/Unbound combo would be great.

This was the main reason why I didnt even finished the story on Heat, the cops were TOO DAMN AGRESSIVE and it wasnt fun anymore.

In Unbound you can easily kill cops. Just bang them on the rear with full speed. You take almost no damage and they are basically killed off.
In Heat, such strategy would not work. The best option for Heat cops was to cheese the game, going to containers and the like. Outrunning them was insane to think and I played this from the get go.
However, both Heat and Unbound cops are NOTHING compared to Most Wanted 2005 and unlocked cops mod (actually unlocking highest Heat level of 10) and cop chatter which you might have never heard ;).
Panths you should check it out :D. It's a blast. Redux mod + cops mod for MW 05 and you will know, what hard Police is (and yeah, MW didn't have character player model damage and you could destroy police, but this mod improves that a little bit).

Heat's cops were grittier, sure, but they were also very, very broken as well. Like once the busted meter appears, it's pretty much game over and it doesn't always go away even if you're moving, which is annoying and wasn't a thing that happened in the older games either. Another thing to note about Heat's cops is yes, you do take damage while hitting them, which is honestly, pretty stupid, and the "Damage Reinforcement" auxiliary upgrade doesn't do jack shit either.
As for Unbound's cops, in my opinion, they are definitely better in a lot of ways, but they could be improved significantly as well. For one, Unbound could definitely need rhinos, killswitching cop cars and diverse cop tactics the higher your heat progresses. Roadblocks also need to be more denser with little to no room for racers to wiggle through, which could force racers to smash through them. I miss how satisfying smashing through roadblocks used to be in the Blackbox games so that needs to return. Another thing Unbound, or any other Need For Speed game could definitely need are pursuit breakers to shake the cops off your tail if they're piling up, as well as cooldown spots which could not only help you escape faster, but also help you reduce your heat level by one, but only once or twice per night session

i found heats cops a lot easier, as soon as i built up enough speed i outran them, and i played on the hardest difficulty when the cops weren’t nerfed

One thing im pissed off about with NFS unbound, is I bought the Palace edition , as it said you get 4 cars, 150k, clothing etc.... And come to find out you still have to race and earn money to pay for those items. So i paid extra for the game to get extra items and got nothing. Now i cant progress unless any further unless i so the same race over and over 20 or 30 times. Or delete my save file and restart all over again.
