    I was a little worried about installing the blade after reading a couple of reviews. But it was amazingly easy. Took about 1 minute. Works great th-cam.com/users/postUgkxjpBI8OOeUXib_iT7UomCrQ-uauwZJ62c . Cuts easily and is perfect for pocket cuts I needed to make for replacing some old deck boards.

    I can see that becoming a huge success in the log home industry and the post and beam building craze that is going. Great tool for sure

    Prazi has been around a long time. I used to use one for cutting out doors and windows in S.I.P. panels. Now, that Skilsaw has all the bells and whistles. Very refined, that one.

    The chain with every other tooth missing is called a skip chain. It's for cutting wet lumber. It throws the saw cuttings out better.

    • @Darndiddlyarn
      @Darndiddlyarn ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Skip chain has two links between each tooth.

    • @joemills950
      @joemills950 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Skip chain also gets the cuttings away without binding up the saw.

      That chain is a regular chainsaw chain not a skip chain🤦🏼‍♂️

      @@Darndiddlyarn
      Right, and skip chains are for long bars, for my Husqvarna 385XP I have a 2 foot bar with a full compliment chain, link with a chisel (tooth), link without a chisel, link with a chisel on opposite side of last chisel and so on.
      Then I have a 3 foot bar for it with a skiptooth chain, link with a chisel, 2 links without chisels, link with an opposite side chisel and so on.
      With chainsaws I've never seen a chain that has a chisel on every link except for some antique saws that don't have chisel type teeth they had cutting teeth that look just like the one's in a manual cross cut saw (what the old timers called misery whips).
      Putting a chisel on every link or a chisel on every other link (like a normal chainsaw chain) on a long bar like my 3 footer would drag the saw down and stall it from having too many cutters digging into the wood than the motor can pull through, cutting the rakes down too low does the same thing because the chisels are taking too deep of a bite into the wood.
      Also, chains for ripping wood are quite different than regular cross cut chains in how they're sharpened, instead of a 25° to 35° angle on the chisel they have about a 10° angle, the chains themselves aren't special just the way they're sharpened.
      When cutting fresh wood from a tree that's been recently dropped and wet if you try rip cutting with a cross cut chain you'll see the cuttings coming out in long slivers that look like hash browns before they're cooked instead of chips like you normally get when cross cutting, those long slivers will clog up the chain and instead of cutting through the wood fiber it's mostly trying to burn through it and you'll ruin the chisels on the chain that way from heating them up and them losing their temper, with dried wood that's used in furniture making like this guy does I don't think that'd be an issue but one thing that will be is with the 35° cutting angle on the chisels of a normal cross cut chain that angle side loads the chisel which is what it needs for cutting across the grain, that side loading when cutting with the grain will produce a very rough surface and a much wider than normal kerf, I'd lay odds the chain on these things have the special 10° angle on their chisels so anyone who wants to sharpen them with a chainsaw sharpening device needs to make sure it's adjustable down to 10°, all those little hand held things and the one's that clamp to a bar that have a crank you turn by hand wouldn't work on these chains because they'll have the regular 35° for your typical chainsaw chain.

    one piece of advise - buy youself a electric chainsaw chain sharpener, like oregon. I used to sharpen my chains by hand with a file, but the teeth were not with even angles, some were shorter and the chain was making a uneven rough cut. After i got the sharpener every cut was like butter. And it takes about 5 minutes to sharpen a 50cm chain.

    Festool has a smaller one (up to 8") that can run on a track. Have used it to make notches and half joints. They're not great, a bit rough, but good enough depending on the wood you use and the look you're going for.

    Mafell has the best beam cutter IMO The ZSX 400 is a beast.
    There is specific chain oil you can buy for cutting chains it's made by Swiss pro called chain fitness
    I use it on my moritce and beam cutter.

    Check out the project farm video on saw chain sharpeners. Keep your cutting as sharp as the rest of your tooling. Also - interesting to hear you think the full house gives the cleaner cut. In making rip cuts with a chainsaw, usually the skip tooth design gives a cleaner cut.

    Chainsaws don't have a blade. They have a cutting chain that tracks around a bar. Calling the bar a blade is the sign of a beginner or an amateur.

    I nearly stopped watching when you said you use WD-40 as a chain lube. May be a bit better than water, but not much. Any oil would be better. Motor oil, 3in1, actual chain saw oil even. If this comes longer, then it can make a simple saw mill....with a ripping chain.
