Saga On The Loose Guitar Solo Lesson? TLDR Edition

  • Decided to try and make my first ever instructional video for guitar so of course, I picked an easy song to learn and then try and teach!
On The Loose by Saga with Ian Crichton on guitar.
I broke everything down into nice, easy to understand parts at speeds that put technique, positioning and accuracy above speed. So don't worry about if you can play it fast. Play it right first. Each section has a play along at lower tempos so you can get it right and play at your own pace.
If a chump like me can do it, I know someone as smart as you can!
    Gear in this video:
    Guitar - 1986 Washburn Tour 24
Guitar FX: Zoom G3Xn direct into Mackie, No amp.
Mixing: Mackie ProFX8v2 direct into laptop
    Mic: Sennheiser MK4
Keyboard: Yamaha. I'll leave it at that. It's old and uh....yeah.
    Video: Streamlabs OBS
Audio Editing: Sonar Producer Edition and Acid
Everything is direct. I don't even own a guitar amp. So it's all straight into the Mackie and via USB into the computer.
    Enjoy!

Such a great lesson…loved this song since I was a kid, always felt it was out of reach. The fastest parts still are, but your tutorial gives me a fighting chance! Many thanks!!

Don't be intimidated by it. Before I did it, I never would've thought in a million years I could do it. Best bet is to start with everything slowed down and gradually build up the tempo. I mean, like I said in the video, if you can hit all the notes and get the phrasings at 100bpm, that's bloody impressive right there. Thanks so much for the kindness.

Thanks man! All Saga solos are picking exercises stuffed with lightning fast chromatic runs and arpeggios. Good stuff! Try "Don't Be Late" next!

Yeah, Ian's one of those dudes that is so good but is overlooked except by other guitar players and musicians. I was going to try something REALLY different but I just can't reproduce the tones. Jeff Beck on Roger Waters "What God Wants Pt 1" The notes aren't the problem so much as the crazy fingerstyle, monstrous harmonics, and just....ugh. there's a few good videos of the solo from WGW Pt 3 but that solo is a lot easier. I'm still trying but I dunno....it may be out of reach.

Thanks for breaking this down. I am in my 50s and started playing guitar 3 years ago. always loved this song. This song is on my bucket list. Where did you get the backing tracks?

    • @therednoizeproject
      @therednoizeproject  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hey thanks! Us 50 somethings gotta stick together lol The backing is actually a midi file I've had for ages. I run it through my DAW and into my keyboard that way I can control the tempo and so on. I don't remember where I got it honestly. I'm sure if you google Saga midi files you can find it. Cheers and good luck. You got this.

Hi! thanks for dropping by. That's a style I've never been good at. Blues is hard enough but to do it at warp speed lol I'm sure there's better players out there who can do it with ease.
