    Hi Joe - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. Over here there have been cases where an diesel algae develops in the tank and can create problems. My local Tree Service Company where I split logs have used a special additive to counter the issue. Looking forward to learning how you cured your problem.

  • @Millstone_Firewood

    You have a lot of very nice features with that Japa and really your entire setup. Most of the logs I get are at least that crooked. And they can be up to 18" in diameter. Some are a real struggle and when they're that size it can take me several minutes just to wrestle one piece through the splitter. Luckily my Cord King can handle most of it. I so the same as you. Whenever I get something too knarly, it just gets tossed aside for the furnace.
    As for your diesel, change the fuel filter. If it's really cold out, water that is trapped in the filter can freeze, starving the engine. Also a good fuel additive wouldn't hurt.

  • @nickthrane4940
    @nickthrane4940 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Definitely run fuel additive mixed in with your fuel. Helps combust and run better in the cold 🥶 and make sure you have clean filters and fluids as already mentioned. Drain fuel filter to let water out if you have a separator too periodically

      @patricknoetzel6752 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      💯 you should run the additive this time of year. You don’t need a lot of it in the tank. Depending on size of the fuel tank. You only need like a quarter of a cap full. If not a half cap at the most

      @ohiowoodburner to be honest I always ran diesel kleen in my cummins. The low sulfur diesel the epa requires had lower lubrication properties than the older pre-obama era diesel.

    There was one short clip of the engine and it looked rock solid, but others do show some unwanted vibration. Check engine mounts and see if it continues. The cold should not affect it once warmed up.

    Hey Joe. Best thing to do when coming into winter. Keep some diesel 911. A frriend of mine would run a 50/50 mix of kerosene and off road diesel fuel in his skidder. Saves from diesel fuel gelling up in the fuel filter.
    When i say 50/50 mix of kerosene and diesel fuel. For every gallon of diesel fuel half galllon of kerosene.

    After the fuel filter change ...if it still runs rough, there is a fuel additive to clean the injectors. I am not a diesel Mechanic ...(to that though I slept at a Holiday Inn Express) and I use Automatic Transmission Fluid to fill my filters instead of #2 fuel when I install new filters to clean the injectors. Secondly it could be the fuel itself......

  • @robertwazniak9495
    @robertwazniak9495 ปีที่แล้ว

    Personally I wouldn’t worry about fuel additives in diesel fuel. As the seasons change the type of blend changes to reduce fuel gelling. I don’t remember when you got that unit but it might need regular maintenance of the filters by now. My money is on a motor mount. Either way, it’s a minor maintenance issue.

    • @petecollet9965
      @petecollet9965 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you run winter diesel fuel? I'm not familiar with Ohio, but here in manitoba, we have no choice. It gets cold enough to stall engines and clog fuel systems. If you didn't switch over to winter fuel, inquire about getting the strongest or the special de-icing conditioner. Diesel fuel is measured in BTU therefore more BTU for summer meaning more wax. That creates your problem when it gets cold.

    Good morning Joe my Friend. Try Changing your Fuel Filter First, then use some Anti-Gel Diesel Additive. You may have Water in the Fuel. It's been Cold, Damp and Wet out. Temperatures are up and down. We are expecting 1 to 3inches of Rain tonight and tomorrow and temperatures up around 60degrees and then going down in the 30's again.
