    Takeaway message: Use a splitter that has a range of 5MHz to 1GHz to accommodate cable packages with LOTS of channels!

    Great stuff, even before i was into cable, the first thing i noticed it was how many more " sub channels" digital tv had, like ch 2.1 or 2.3 and so on ....

    Can a splitter be screwed to the side of a cold air return?

      Mark yes you can but you are putting holes in you air duct. I assume you are talking about on the outside of the duct. I would find another spot if you can Ron

    awesome channel! one question, I splitted a signal to two TVs, now i want to split the signal to three TVs. I want to replace the splitter that i used in the first place with a three-way one but on the outputs two of them say 7 db and the other one 3.5 db, now i've read that the 3.5 db one its used for modems or split the signal even more... if i connect that 3.5 db output plainly to a tv will have the same signal as the others? I dont want to ruin things up haha!

    • @RonKipperDatacomm1
      @RonKipperDatacomm1  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think you will be OK with using the 3 way. Most cable companies give you enough signal strength to split it four ways. The output marked 3.5 dB has twice the signal strength of the other 2 outputs that say 7 dB. Hope that helps Ron

    Hello sir I was wondering can be signal spliters be used on magnetic pick up coils?
    The problem that I recently have is that I need to trigger 2x ignition modules precisely 2x 4pin gm ignition modules with 1 induction pick up coil .
    So I was wondering culd I use that cabel spliter for that porpuse ?
    Suposedly me magnetic pick up pruduces positive and negative pulse to trigger the ignition module.
    So I was wondering if that spliter circuet is polarity sensitive?

    Analog channels take up more space and fit less than digital and HD channels ??

    • @RonKipperDatacomm1
      @RonKipperDatacomm1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alex using Qam modulation the cable companies can fit more channels in the same space as one older analog channel. I am not sure how many channels they can fit into that space probably based on the channel content. Go check out the SCTE online to learn more. Hope that helps Ron

    The video content was nice! In a 3-way CATV Splitter, I read that the input cable should have high Q-factor. Please explain me about this

    Hello, I'm a cable technician.
    Aka cable guy. We deal with this sort of stuff all day long.
    There was a question about channel 88, and what DbmV should be expected.. That, in my opinion, depends on the tap value, ( 10,14,17,20,23,26... Etc) and whether or not the tap is functioning properly..
    The Db magnitude at the tap will, as expected, be higher than the value at the demarcation point.
    In the area where I work, we a certain range of Rx, Tx values.
    Can you elaborate more on this...
    Also, how can the Tx be dropped besides configuration, and service drop replacement
    Thanks

      Only installing a zero gain amp will keep the TX the same as from the Tap. The only other way of bringing the TX down is at an Service provider amp but if you don’t know what your doing don’t touch.

    I recently had satellite tv installed for four tvs (in an old house). We are remodeling, and want to add another hook up in an upstairs room. The original install only has 4 "splits" how do I add a 5th connection?

    • @RonKipperDatacomm1
      @RonKipperDatacomm1  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Barbara Learned Barbara I'm going to say call your provider you will need another set top box anyway. Generally satellite companies will use a MultiSwitch not a splitter to add another line. You probably can buy one online if you wanted. Check with them though as they might be able to do it another way. Sorry I was not much help.Ron

    Great teachings, question: I want to use a 3 WAY SPLITTER for two 2 TVs ( two different bedrooms / not that far apart ) and a WIFI ROUTER. Any specifications I should be mindful of ? Thks !

    • @RonKipperDatacomm1
      @RonKipperDatacomm1  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rafael the router uses coax? If so one of the ports on the 3 way has less loss than the other two ports so use the port with the smallest listed dB number to feed the router and use the other two to feed the TV's. Hope that helps Ron

    • @H.T.2forever
      @H.T.2forever 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Or for those who can't afford to suffer the higher losses on the other two ports of an "unbalanced" 3-way splitter like that. Make sure to use a "balanced" 3-way splitter which typically has only about 5.5 db loss on each of the splitter ports.

    Great info. Ron. Trying to simplify my cable TV/Phone/Internet wiring. Mounted to the side of my house I have cable from my provider going into a CommScope SV-3G splitter, configured with one 5db port and two 7db ports. Cable from the 5db port goes into the basement to a PDI 2-way splitter with two 3.5db ports. Cable from one 3.5db port goes to a modem for internet and telephone. Cable from the second port goes to an Extreme BDS103H 3-way splitter serving a hi def TV and two unused outlets. Since my modem signal is being split twice, once with the outside 3-way splitter and again with the inside 2-way splitter, can you recommend a more streamlined splitter arrangement? I considered replacing the outside splitter with two 2-way splitters, but this adds another splitter, which doesn't seem quite right to me. Thank you, John

    • @RonKipperDatacomm1
      @RonKipperDatacomm1  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      John this all depends on how much rewiring you are willing to do. Are you having any issues with they way it is wired today? As a general rule the providers like to see as little as possible between the modem and there services. So typically they install a 2 way and one output feeds the modem the other a larger splitter feeding outlets. They should be able to boost the signal if you are having issues. Hope that helps. Ron

    I'd like to hook up an HD OTA antenna to receive local channels and I'm wondering if I can bring the antenna signal into the house over the same cable Cox Cable is using to bring their signal.

    • @RonKipperDatacomm1
      @RonKipperDatacomm1  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Anthony Shoraka Anthony good question but I would say no. More than likely they will interfere with each other. You really need to pull another piece of RG-6 from the antenna and use the F connector and TV input on the TV. The OTA signal uses the same frequencies the CATV people use.Good LuckRon

    • @AnthonyShoraka1
      @AnthonyShoraka1 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** Thank you, Ron ... so ... if I wanted to use the basic service from my CATV provider (Cox) for channels not available OTA (e.g. CNN) ... as well as an OTA HD antenna for local HD channels, I gather that I'd need a cable box for the CATV. But the TV only has one input for an RG-6 cable ... would you have any suggestions on how to bring both signals into my TV? Is there such a thing/device as a "router" for RG-6 cable?

    • @RonKipperDatacomm1
      @RonKipperDatacomm1  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      They do make simple A/B switches that you could use but you would need to get up and switch it. The simplest thing to do would to use one of the other inputs on the TV to the cable box like HDMI or RCA. Either should work. You will need to switch between inputs depending on the channel.
      Good Luck
      Ron

    How much signal loss is in rg6. So if I ran rg6 100ft. What's the loss between point A to B. And the same with rg11

    • @RonKipperDatacomm1
      @RonKipperDatacomm1  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rich Belanger Rich I cover that some where in one of the videos. The loss will depend on the frequency of the signal but I would tell you about 4-6 dB on RG-6 and about 3-4 dB for the RG 11. Again that is a rough guess.Thanks for watching

    Hello Mr Ron I really need some help with with tap level and value and channel 88 i just don't understand what channel 88 has to do with tap value and if i am installing cable what level do i need at the tap and what level do i need at the outlet I am starting a job soon with TWC it's just hard for me to understand the value and channel 88

    • @riley804
      @riley804 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      you know this by now I am sure.....but 88 and maybe ( 89, 90, 91 ) would be the channels used for HSD.....and with your meter, when you do a Docsis test, you can use either one of those channels to find out what the return is either off of the plant or at a piece of equipment
