  • Some Facebook target audiences are now so competitive that they've become very expensive.
    If you can find less competitive target audiences, it will cost you less to reach those people and you could see a significant improvement in results.

    I can't seem to find the inspect button on mine. Mine is a conversions campaign so I assume its all good. Any other way to get into the inspect page?

    Hey Ben, as far as i see it, the 0% in the competition graph is just the average in your specific targetgroup over the course of time that particular adset was running. You will see that exactly after the first 2 days, where day 1 is -8,5% and day 2 is +8,5% for example. That is always like that, so facebook is not providing you any information "against the overall average", which they never do:)

    Are these metrics based on demographic audience (targeting city) or on interests/lookalike?
    I assume they are not based on custom audiences

    Hey Ben, thanks for the info, a quick question, if we made more than one Ad set (5) as you recommend with same target group, don’t you think it will lead to audience fragmentation and eventually increases CPA? I always get this recommendation from meta to sum ad sets in account overview.

      To avoid audience fragmentation, you can change in some interests, and demographics to test them all out

    Hey Ben, appreciate the insight here. I work music marketing, using FB ads to send traffic to Spotify so ROI is extremely thin if not impossible. Therefore campaign daily budgets are smaller than a typical business. But you say you like to use 5 ad sets, each with one unqiue interest to compare performance. What is the minimum budget requirement for this in your opinion? Each ad set needs enough budget to test and really get data so can I use this strategy even with $10-15 a day? Thanks again for the help!

      i do the exact same thing but for playlist likes on Spotify. i can do $5 per day and get around $0.50 per playlist like

      For 5 AD sets you need more than that, keep raising your budget until the least budget warning sign disappear

    I guess my main question is, OK I’m looking at the inspect when I see the data. Are you suggesting to turn off the adsets and launch new ones are you suggesting to wait it out until it levels off? What action plan are you suggesting with this?

      there is nothing you can do but to only analyze the analytics at the end of the campaign or to turn the ad sets all off

      Worth testing :)
      We do that often. I actually have videos on broad targeting I would recommend checking out as they will tell you when it is and isn't a good idea.

    Ben! In my prospecting campaign I have 3 ad sets: broad, Interest and LAL. I have 5 pieces of creative in each ad set, but a majority of the spend is only going to the two SAME creatives across all ad sets. What would you do to get some more spend into all of the other creative? I want to be able to compare them all to figure out which are the best.

      Use only one ad for each ad set

      That’s very common. Personally I would leave it as is and Facebook will spend on the other creative at some point. Or they won’t and you can take that as a sign that it’s not the best quality and you can move onto other option.

    If I’m trying to target iPhone users only should I do that in the detailed targeting section or in the manual placement section when it gives me which specific mobile devices & operating systems to target? Or both? I’m an iPhone repair business. Thanks in advance!

      Yes I would narrow the targeting to those people where possible :)

    Ben I don't see inspect under my adset. I see View Charts, Edit, Duplicate. Is that because I haven't set up adsets with an audience? My ads target existing targets that FB has.

    The data shows the competition goes back up so how do you keep the low competition

      Well a good chunk of that may be out of your control but you might be able to spot patterns and adjust accordingly. For example, there may be more auction competition on Mondays and if you spot that over time, you might want to reduce budget or not run ads on that day.

    Ben i think this is a useless tool i have been using this tool for a long time. in auction when my auction competiton goes to less competition my CPA increase to 1200 PKR. and when there is high competition i get 200 to 400 PKR CPA. maybe it works for someone but its definitely not for me or for my other advertsier friends.

      Well there is a logical reason as to why that would happen. Perhaps your best target audiences are more competitive. I do say in the video that's very important to look at this in relation to your cost per conversion. Sometimes it's worth paying more to reach the more competitive audiences.

      Depends on your audience market, Then I will suggest use landing pages with Facebook post ad!
      Works like a charm for me and my clients!
