These videos are great for people just starting(and longtime stencil artists). When I started I'm not sure TH-cam was even a thing yet. A lot of artists are protective of their methods but I don't see the point. Share the knowledge. Keep up the great work.
I'm a beginner stenciler. Great tips, especially the cutting out part of small outlines. I was going to buy a stencil burner pen but I think I've changed my mind. You make it all look so easy. Thanks for the video.
I like your tips, it shows that you have a lot of practice. For those interested in discovering an ancient stencil tradition, just do a search in an online bookstore for JAPANESE STENCILS. They have done fabric dyeing with stenciled designs for centuries and have a complete mastery of all the specific difficulties of stencil design. There are inexpensive, royalty-free books of such stencils showing repeating patterns of natural themes, all beautiful. One particularity of Japanese stencils is how they use bridges as a decorative feature. Another is that hey also reinforce the empty spaces with a wide-mesh silk gauze which allows them to cut very thin, narrow details that seem to hang in the void but are in fact resting on the gauze.
Thanks for all this info man, really awesome. Can you please make video about making stencils on computer and what type of images can be used to make stencils, because I when making them on computer can't make it those like you made. You are awesome I know that but still if you can make a little awesome too. :P
Extremely new to this so bare with me. What are the pro's and con's with HP spray paints and LP? If you have something that you want to white wash or fade in to the background can you use a can of white from a far distance and mist it or is there a better way? Thanks Andre
So what gsm paper would you go up to before it would be too hard, or just annoying to cut? 150gsm? 200gsm? would probably make a better stencil than 80gsm stuff??
Hey dude, thank you for spreading all the knowledge! You've helped me out alot! A word of knowledge that I learned that you might not know us that you can buy off brand #11 blades that work just as good as X-acto but are MUCH cheaper. I buy packs of 100 for like $15 at Carter Sexton which is just an art store. I'm sure they are other places too,. Hope I helped!
Hey I'm new here to the channel and the hobby and on the x-acto blades you only really cut with the tip so as it dulls out needle nose pliers can be used to snap off the tip and you have a fesh blade. Anyways works for me. Great video.
Yo dude this is awesome I'm in the middle. I'm making stencils to stencil faceplates for modular synthesiszers and electronic gear so ideally yea I would like to be able to spray em over like 50 times? Any advice on that? (Totally understand where your coming from in your world of not surviving the same one over and over)
Can you please give me some advice on image stencil. What I meant was, I plan on making candles on catholic saints and want the images on the glass. Can I use a drawing and cut it out? Thanks
whats the name of your gooseneck light/where purchased it's exactly what I have been looking for. Looks like you plug a usb into the light, instead of how others are made.
It's more to protect the surface underneath, you don't want knife marks in your kitchen table or your desk or whatever. Just something to make sure you get a nice flat cut without ruining anything else.

FutureLaugh with a cutting matt is gives you a slower control over the cutting.. if you were cutting on a hard surface u would not have as much control over the blade plus it saves your surfaces and just the best way.
whenever i am cutting a very thin piece of paper from a stencil, it will always lift and when i spray on it there will be a lot of shadow behind it, what do i do?
Spray adhesive. And for extra help, put a few nuts/bolts or pennies to weigh down vulnerable areas. Or wear gloves and hold downs the spots you are spraying...
how about you make a video with every single step.. like a fast pace video. from you cutting to you laying everything out.. even when you spray the adhesive onto the stencils.. just a thought... a detailed video..
DUDE YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH EASIER YOU MADE MY LIFE WITH THESE TUTORIALS.
as a painter I appreciate the variation and intricacy of your work.congrats on your accomplishments.

Great stuff man. Really informative and lots of videos. Do you just make all the layers in photoshop then print them on regular paper taped together?
Gracias, maestro.
I really need to get an xacto. Using a box-cutter is a fucking nightmare.
i got one from wall geens for 3 bucks
i prefer to use a scalpel blade as its really precise and sharp
likely one of the more complex stencils ever. The average person would likely not see this level of difficulty for some time. Great vid!

I understand that the bridges are for support. Do you cut the bridges out before painting? What exactly do you do..? Thanks.
Do you computer render your stencils, or do you draw the stencil out and scan it to make it bigger? Awesome job!

what is the benefit of using a stencil cutting board? does it break your blades if you go too deep?
It's more to protect the surface underneath, you don't want knife marks in your kitchen table or your desk or whatever. Just something to make sure you get a nice flat cut without ruining anything else.
