I fell down the rabbithole of this channel two days ago, it slid into my feed and I said why the heck not? I find these videos somehow relax me so deeply. This is how old time YT used to be, interesting, quirky, heartwarming, sharing passion instead of selling illusions and clicks, educational… it had heart.
This is my very favorite video so far. This bonsai is perfectly graceful and serene. I can almost feel the cool mountain air on my face, smell the herby scent, and hear the wind in the larches. Bravo, sir.
Though I never did bonsai before and never will, I love just hanging out here, listening, watching, learning and chilling. You can feel the Tao vibe strongly and I like that. It nourishes. Thank you for teaching more than bonsai.

I saw this rock on the nursery when I came last month, I wondered what you would do with it. Now I know! The larches compliment this marvellous rock which can only get better as time goes on. Love it. Great job Peter. Thanks for showing it

What many people don't get about bonsai is the deep attachment we bonsai enthusiasts have about our trees, our pots and things like this volcanic rock. If anyone was to get this precious family heirloom, I am glad that it was Peter Chan. He will treasure it, he will nurture it, and he will teach with it. Blessings to all from Kokomo, Indiana.

Hello Peter, what a lovely story and so you glad you're not planning to sell it. This really caught my eye when we visited 10 days ago and I'm so pleased to see how you created this.

Oh Peter I can feel your excitement apart from seeing you create a rock planting using Larch trees which look really natural, they will over time become one with the rock and will just need a bit of care over time. The rock itself is very special piece of artwork on its own without any plantings, but with the larch trees planted it achieves another level of living art which can be admired in a special place on the nursery for people to see. Larch are my favourite trees especially in spring when the buds have burst to produce very light green delicate looking whirls of foliage on an old gnarled looking tree.

Larches do well in the Northern hemisphere - when I first started my nursery - all I ever sold were Larches !

Well, Mr. Chan, you’ve done it again. A masterful root over/in rock design & composition. Agree - choosing Larch v Juniper was a stroke of genius. I also agree putting tiny low growing plants here-n-there will top off this Peter Chan masterpiece.

Looks like pumice rock. I have one and put in a forest last spring. They sell them here and they do make flower pots out of them. Hard to get them here, but, they do sell them in bulk. Sharp though. Wear gloves. Don't sell it. A great piece of stone. Mine I have one tree still living in it after whatever came into the yard and ripped the rest out of it. Tree left, willow, is strongly rooted inside the rock. Yours looks excellent. Wear safety glasses drilling. Pieces fly off like small bits of glass. I have seen some nice anthuriums grown in this stone that were made into odd shaped pots. Watching how you make your forest in it. Save that rock. Don't sell it.
