I'm not a Nebraska fan, but always wish them well when they're not playing Michigan cuz they have such great fans. One time at a gas station, neutral territory- I think it was in Indiana- it's been awhile, anyway- I started a small talk with this Nebraska fan as we each were pumping gas. He had a motor home. We're talking for a few minutes, and then his wife comes out. She was super cool too. Then 2 of their friends hopped out too. Also way cool people. to be fair some of those games were mismatches. For example it's not surprising when Temple played a ranked Notre Dame team that they would lose. Doesn't matter how good you "coached up" the kids at Temple its still a massive mismatch. Same goes for his 45 scholarship team at Baylor that had probably 6-8 top 25 losses just in conference over his first two years. Pretty unrealistic to expect a coach who took over a dumpster fire and is starting 90% freshman and sophomores to be winning top 25 games against Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Kansas State etc. By the time his teams were good enough to compete with top 25 teams he was leaving the program so we never really got to see what he was capable of.

    8 year contract? Massive rebuild? This has the workings of another Scott Frost written all over it. Did we not just see what keeps happening when you give coaches massively unearned contract deals? Mel Tucker, James Franklin, Jimbo Fisher, Scott Frost, and so on all have their performance go in the toilet once they know they can't get fired no matter what. Not only that but add that on top of the "massive rebuild" excuse to not improve for 5 years and you have yet another guy who makes zero progress in 5 years because he knows he can't get fired and he can keep on claiming it's because he has to do a massive rebuild. All the while blaming the last coach the whole time like Frost did with Riley. There's zero excuse not to make progress every year at Nebraska immediately when they recruit better than their division perennially and have way more resources and advantages than 95% of the Big 10. If he makes zero progress in 2 to 3 years then I want Matt Rhule gone!

      He backed up his talk at Temple and Baylor. Even after NC, he took accountability for things that weren't his fault, and was extremely genuine. Honestly, taking a program with 1/4 of a typical roster to 10 wins is miracle work. All the players that Aranda won with and developed were recruited by Rhule. He's the perfect coach for Nebraska. There's absolutely not another available candidate that would be a better fit. Urban, is just not a good human. Kiffen is recruiter, but not a developer. Fickell would be good, but he's holding out for OSU. It's just an all around a fantastic hire and the perfect place for Rhule to do his thing. NCAA coaches need to stop going pro and NFL teams need to stop thinking every NCAA coach is Pete Carroll

    • @tomdemay6147
      @tomdemay6147 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shanez1223z Urban would definitely be better. His off field character has nothing to do with the on field results. Urban would have Nebraska in the top 10 within 2 years. Fickell likely would have been better, or Kiffin or Deion but these guys have varying levels of attainability. That said I agree with you about Rhule fitting Nebraska pretty good and I do think he will be a good coach for them. Just being realistic about Urban especially. He might not "fit" with your morals but Nebraska is a big state school and plenty of people on campus are cheating on their spouses or whatever else you mad at Urban for. As far as winning games the fit would be perfect as Urban is championship caliber, knows the big 10, and his name would recruit itself at a school like Nebraska. Considering Nebraska isn't in a "talent rich" area like LSU or USC then that would be a major benefit.

      thats the big question. seems like a high floor low ceiling type of coach. you gotta hope that if he stays at Nebraska for longer than Baylor he can "take the next step" with a program. Some of those 18 losses are completely understandable (Temple playing ranked Notre Dame, his 1-11 scandal ridden Baylor team playing Oklahoma and OK State etc) but still 2-18 is so bad it's hard to write that stat off.

    • @randomtees
      @randomtees ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jonathanaguilera8078 Baylor actually had, what, 7 straight years of success before Rhule? So you're wrong on that. The issue was that he took over a dumpster fire of a program due to the Briles scandal. They lost an entire recruiting class and most of the top players transferred out.
      Rhule never beat a ranked team at Baylor but he did get them closer to the CFP than Briles ever did. They played OU in the Big 12 title and the winner was headed to the CFP. Baylor lost in OT despite have minimal talent on offense.
      He also completely changed the offensive scheme from Briles' system with 4 wideouts to a pro style. That's not easy to do in 3 years at a program that lost half its players. He also pulled in Baylor's top recruiting class since the early 90s.

    Bad hire for Nebraska. You have USC and UCLA coming to the Big Ten. USC is possible going to be on the West, they will win that Division every year if not UCLA. Now they hired a coach that can get them 8 to 9 wins, insert UCLA and USC they drop to 7 to 8 win team. Bill O'bryan would made better sense because he Big Ten and NFL proven on wins and recruiting. Plus Bill play calling is great smart guy. Good luck and hopefully things work out but seems like Nebraska always strike out on the real proven coach's. Any Thoughts ?

    • @paulkapke9284
      @paulkapke9284 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Not sure if the big ten will keep the same east/west alignment when USC and UCLA come in. USC especially would have a leg up on the teams in the west and the big ten might not be big on having non-OG teams playing for the conference title right away. Take it from a Nebraska fan, after entering the B1G, we went through several seasons where the opposing teams were collectively called for holding a handful of times throughout a full season. They make it hard. Not only that, but even a team like Ohio State will go to northwestern and the weather will screw the game up. USC traveling 1500 miles to play Wisconsin, Purdue, Iowa, and Minnesota for 30 degree games and 20mph will be an adjustment and could also keep them from reaching the conference title game with the ease that maybe you believe.
      I'm not a fan of the hire, but it won't necessarily fail. A minimally competent coach would have had this team bowling this year. Keep recruiting in the top 20, have a higher percentage of those players pan out, and develop. It should work out, but I've said that before.

      @@CharlieBoiiTV2 I may be one of those unrealistic Nebraska fans but 8 years in, if it is apparent that 9 wins is the best he can do, I would lead the pitchfork mob for his firing. A "nice" program is NOT the goal. A top-tier, annual contender is the goal. If we want a nice program, we should have kept solich or pelini. All this garbage of the last 20 years will be for nothing if we buy into all the big media talking points that it can't happen at Nebraska again. If Iowa can win the big ten every ten years and northwestern can represent the west every three years - a blue blood with the most wins against power 5 competition in the history of football with 3 Heisman trophy winners and 5 national championships can be built to dominate its division and be in the conversation year after year.
