- When power is restored after a power loss, Otis elevators with automatic voice announcement cycle through their vocabulary. This video shows an Otis elevator cycling through its pre-programmed statements (many of which are compounded in actual scenarios, so it may seem jumbled here).

At the Borgata in Atlantic City, August 2016, I was going up to my room when a fire alarm was triggered. The Otis announced "Please stand clear of the closing doors. This elevator is needed for an emergency. Please exit when the doors open." and the fire hat lit up and stopped mid-floor and went back to the lobby.

There tends to be a lot of unused words in any talking device, sometimes more unused than actually used.

There is a separate breaker for the lights and for the elevator. So if the elevator is turned off, the lights will not turn off.
This video is probably where the Otis Voice Vocabulary came from when playing the Otis Voice Vocabulary file from EG881's pack from the Skyscraper Simulator Forum.

1:06 "you are pressing too many floor buttons" at our yacht club, which is 11 stories tall, we have two the exact same talking elevators one on each side of the lobby, but their custom designed, anyway, I've been trying to get the "twins" to say that too many buttons being pushed slogan various times, they know their shit because we pressed all 11 floors at once with a wooden plank. Damn, I should give it a college test and see if one passes.

I never knew before this video how many messages had been programmed into the elevator's "voice box" and I'll just say, wow. Although... I'll bet that could be confusing for someone to hear when the elevator powers on after a failure and it's backups are drained.

I wonder who did the Schindler 400A elevator voice. That’s the nostalgic one for me. I’m pretty sure it only announces the floors, but still it was always unique to my ears.

If the elevator wants us to not be alarmed, why does it tell us to push a button that says "ALARM"

If I were programming the elevator, I would have the elevator say upon waking up for the business day after the building's power were to turn off for the night or at any time that the power were to suddenly go out, "Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. Do not be alarmed. We are currently experiencing a temporary power interruption."

No, sometimes its easier to remember a letter instead of a letter, so it may be used in a pking garage.
It lets other people know. Same with the emergency phone.

What is too many? How does it know how many people are there to press the buttons? Does it have cameras or weight sensors or something?

It’s not only on Otis Gen2s; this is findable on Hydrofits and some other models like this. These also are on our Gen2s if you want to know, including the “drunk voice” which is common sometimes and the OTAC one (exclusive to only the 300VFEs).
