90% of black metal is gimmicky as fuck and possess skills to compose that pale in comparison to this band. God forbid you mix genres and refuse to adhere to preconceived notions of what something shouldn't or should be, which is itself an oxymoron since that's pretty much contradictory to core beliefs of black metal.
Thank you Deafheaven. This video made me remember the small trip I did to SF. It's a beautiful place for a first timer in the US. Walking through those parks and the downtown was a complete different experience and the way they've shown it on the whole clip just brought some tears. By the way, although this is pretty different material compared to previous albums, I really like the style. I mean, it's like listening to Iron Maiden's "Holy Smoke": Sounds like a parody song, but still keeps part of your core. And it throws happiness.
Far out man - how do you write ten min plus songs that don't just have catchy riffs, but amazing motifs, whole passages that spin the tune in new directions - all layered with such whimsical beauty? Deafheaven are just something else. Loving the new album too :)

This is the most definer Song of what deafheaven career is, from Black metal transforming into shoegaze/post rock. What amazing metamophorsis of these guys as a band
Better than most of the new "trve black metal" bands who recycle stuff endlessly. Plus, one of the best bands of the current decade. Much love for these hipsters, waiting for the new album.
There's room for both. We can have the hardliners who want to keep things the same, and the ones who don't feel like it's blasphemy to to change things up. There's no need to tear one style down to be able to enjoy another.
Mercutio you're right man, lyrically, I also think Sunbather was depressing. But I don't mind this at all. I think life is two sides of a coin. You can have both.
Every once in a while a band will put out a record that is so desperately NEEDED, that it almost feels like they have just given you a gift and you find yourself truly thankful for the fact that the band exists. It's like a long sigh of relief....."Thank fucking God we have Deafheaven."
'Hipster' always has a negative connotation. If these guys what to try something new, use a different aesthetic than what is normally associated with metal music, and sound/look great doing it, I don't see what the problem is there. Nothing has ever evolved by staying the same.
*/mu/ck* man, you have a Rick & Morty profile pic. Pretty much 85% of people working on that show would be called _hipster_ under the common definition of that term.
I can only admire these guys. I'm the same type of musician who wants to blend genres. I don't like either post rock or black metal too much so it's definitely not my jam, but I can only see positives here. I can't stop thinking about them feeling like they won't be able to properly support their families through their art, like, ever. This song is amazing though...
Over the last 35 years I've seen so many bands come and go, techno, britpop, shoegaze, metal of all genres... I haven't been excited about any band for a long time until discovering these guys a couple years ago.
That moment when you realize Deafheaven is a post-metal/rock band, not a black metal band (closer to Russian Circles than Darkthrone), and all the hate seems misguided.

This is the most definer Song of what deafheaven career is, from Black metal transforming into shoegaze/post rock. What amazing metamophorsis of these guys as a band
Deafheaven gives me hope for the future of what sometimes seems to be a dying breed
Better than most of the new "trve black metal" bands who recycle stuff endlessly. Plus, one of the best bands of the current decade. Much love for these hipsters, waiting for the new album.
Just facts
Trve kvlt black metal is boring
Black Metal is boring?
There's room for both. We can have the hardliners who want to keep things the same, and the ones who don't feel like it's blasphemy to to change things up. There's no need to tear one style down to be able to enjoy another.
Damn stop comparing Deafheaven with black metal because IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH BLACK METAL. I like both but man these useless quarrels are annoying
Album of the year incoming!
idk how a song can be so rageful yet so emotional at the same time. i love this band
It's quite surreal to hear Deafheaven make happy music
not that surreal
Clearly missed the entirety of sunbather then.
Seriously? That album was depressing
Mercutio
Nah mate the deafheaven fanbase is depressing.
Mercutio
you're right man, lyrically, I also think Sunbather was depressing. But I don't mind this at all. I think life is two sides of a coin. You can have both.
I am a Black Metak ellitist who insulted some dude an told him he probably listens to Deafheaven.
I love everything about this. Everything. Flawless music and flawless video. also have chill Lynch vibes into. hype is real.
i'm dying, this is so gorgeous..
_Hipster_ means nothing at this point, just people with generic taste keep using that term as an insult...
*/mu/ck* man, you have a Rick & Morty profile pic. Pretty much 85% of people working on that show would be called _hipster_ under the common definition of that term.
/mu/ck read your own first comment.
Greg Chipelski fucking exactly
/mu/ck To be fair...
Sunbather happened upon us 5 years ago, and this song still sounds fresh, as if 2013 was yesterday. Amazing work!
Have New Bermuda on repeat since its release. Can't wait for this.
How do I even thumb up this video more than once? This band is awesome and I've just discovered them a few days ago.
Life beyond is a field, a field of flowers... 🌻🌻🌻
This song is so floating, great transitions, not many bands can do something like this
Those drums are fucking thumping. My god
they sound fucking awesome. saturated black metal thud
Dan Tracy is amazing.
this song made me feel depressed, happy, nostalgic, motivated, anxious and confused, damn
This song helped me more than you'll ever know.
It's like a perfect combination of surrealism and simplicity. Emotions interpreted with purity in a song
That moment when you realize Deafheaven is a post-metal/rock band, not a black metal band (closer to Russian Circles than Darkthrone), and all the hate seems misguided.
They always said: Deafheaven - a metal band. And thats it.
B-but...they're trying to take all of our precious black metal and make it hipster!
Them AND the women!
Let's not forget that Russian Circles dabble in black metal quite a lot, too.
Although they try not to be Black Metal, they are
idk what they are exacty but its different and i love it!
So glad I discovered this! Chills! 😍
Should have won the Grammy, beautiful song nonetheless
When ur swimming at the beach just relaxing swing on the swings in beautiful meadows ahhhh how peaceful
