You where overheating because your fan doesn't work. When your going fast your getting air in your radiator. When your going slow your car isn't getting air
if its hot standing still and your fan is working, and it cools off as your drive you have air in your system. Just a heads up for future referance! easy way to tell is when it starts climbing temp rev it a little bit and it should go down

Oil light was on probably because of low oil pressure. Adding oil wouldn't have fixed that.
