      I think to remember, that thse were italian pilots operating in Vienna/Austria, flying to lower Austria fighting a huge bushfire there.
      The river itself is a non floating leg of the danube, built to fight high water levels. Its called "Neue Donau", and can transport about 10000 m³/s.
      When it is sealed from the floating danume, its for bathing in summer.
      Greez from Vienna! roland

    Nothing against any other pilots but those who fly firefighting aircraft are awesome. Refilling like that on the water and then flying low into most times, zero visibility due to smoke, and here in Canada where everything's burning up right now, generally the train is far from flat.
    Drop the water and do it all again, awesome!

    • @ronhunt2477

      That was an example of inexperience, incompetence or possibly fatigue not an "awesome job!" It was clearly the result of unstable approach and pilot induced pitch oscillations starting with too high a flare and attempting to force it to the ground as their eating up the runway. To be clear, I'm not discounting the difficulty of landing in these conditions, however, with that pilot induced situation they were losing control as the airplane finally fell to the runway.

    My brother used to jockey planes around the US for a leasing firm in the 80's. He told me the one plane that he wouldn't fly was the Beechcraft Bonanza Model 35. He told me years later that his best friend Danny, a former Marine aviator, was almost killed flying a 35. He survived, but was paralyzed from the waist down. He told my brother that the plane became difficult to handle upon approach and believed that the crash was due to a heavy gust of wind hitting the 'V' tail and forcing the plane into the ground nose first.

    Can someone explain to me why the Lufthansa pilot on the first clip did a go around instead of just finishing the landing? What exactly was wrong with the landing attempt?

    • @lbowsk
      @lbowsk ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It looks to me as though the decision to go around had already been made. I say this because if he pushed the levers to the stops (the Go Around detent) then the spoilers would be inhibited from extending at main wheel contact. Simultaneous with selecting TOGA would be the engines going to GA thrust and the FD would command GA pitch and roll modes. When he hit the runway the wing stayed clean with no spoiler extension. He may have developed an excessive sink rate late in the approach and decided to go around then. Just my opin.

    • @wilfreddv
      @wilfreddv ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lbowskyou can see the engines produce more thrust just before touchdown, meaning they set TOGA a little earlier. It didn't look destabilized to me, and they weren't overshooting the touchdown zone (they were spot on).
      They must have been under pressure , though, given the steep and sudden climb. They were quick to stop the oscillation though
