I can say that for my Panasonic VHS/DVD/BD player, the brightness of the display can be set to 'Auto', meaning that the display will be dim during playback, and bright for load/unload and pause. But on that player, the glass cover allows almost all the light through, and the display is bright in either mode!

When the guy tells you explicitly NOT to view the recordings, that tells me to treat the machine as a biohazard, and handle the remote only with nitrile gloves...

Hahaha. Well this is my remote. He didn't bring the remote. I imagine it is probably family stuff but I don't snoop. I am trusted at work to work in people's homes and I keep everything with clients professional. Same when I archive videos for clients. I never watch or monitor recordings. I play the first minute to ensure correct tracking then let it run unattended. I spot check the digital copy for QA and that is all.

@@12voltvids That is the only way to do it. Oooh maybe there was something jucy on the hard drive! lol, none of our business!

Exactly. I never watch people's home movies or videos when I am digitizing them. I run the tape through to find the time, then set the machine to record for that time, hit record and walk away.

Don't know about yours but there is a setting in a lot of them to change display brightness. I set mine to dim because it is annoying in the dark

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  4 ปีที่แล้ว

There is a setting in the menu. Bright, Dim and Automatic.
On bright it is barely visable, on dim, you have to be in total darkness and auto well during the day it is the same as bright.

Watching this is like deja-vu for me. I had exactly the same problem with my Pioneer HDD recorder. I robbed an IR receiver out of one of my Pioneer DVD players and got it working. It did have a different pinout though.

Ditto. was very surprised a few years ago had the same problem with my Pioneer DVD/ HD recorder with the same fault. I didnt have a donor machine so bought 100 Vishay air conditioner Infra red receivers for $2 off ebay shipping included. Soldered it in problem fixed. Never had an infra red receiver go bad before Did pioneer buy a bad lot?

Hi, I've been meaning to ask ... what type or model of Soldering Iron do you use ?? I've been thinking of the TS-100 but my mobile work is usually done with a butane powered iron, had several over the years as well as the massive Weller that I've had since I was about 14 - now 63 !

I was given a DVD recorder that does not respond to the remote, I know the remote is working, so looks like the same problem.
Unfortunately, this is a rebranded unit, so will have to try a few sensors from scrap equipment.

I have 3 different Panasonic DVD recorders: 1-
    DMR E-85H, 2-DMR E-85H,
    3-DMR E-100H
Somehow I changed the remote code and now NONE will respond to remote. They all say CHK REMOTE 3
HOW CAN I RESET ANY REMOTE TO OPERATE THESE RECORDERS?
So frustrated I screwed up the code somehow
    Thank you

yeah that dim display would be so annoying. i had one like that, when i needed to use it i had to shine a flashlight on it just to see it!

Well this is a fluorescent display so the opposite is true. Turn off all the lights.

I've come across a few IR's that fail in several Sharp VCR's, Philips TV's and some Pioneer DVD players in the past (either partially or fully).
      Not sure why either.
