Thanks for sharing V2L is really useful feature! Cannot wait to get my MG4 :)

Simpler explanation here. The domestic supply is 240V, taking the power from the watt meter, that results in a resistance of the kettle element of 19.43 ohms. The car is showing 220V which means that the current drawn by that 19.43 ohms is 12.35 Amps. Therefore the power in that circuit is current squared multiplied by resistance which is 2490W, which is what you saw. I don't know what the design limit of the V2L on the car actually is but the above is why you're seeing what you're seeing.

So you think a 10% approx drop in voltage would result in a 20% drop in power output?

@@BurlSolomons I've provided the calculations. That's ohms law for you. Power is derived from the square of the current multiplied by resistance. The element resistance is constant so absolutely yes, since the voltage is lower, the current is lower and it's the square of the current which provides the power.
Voltage on its own is worth nothing as far as power is concerned, it's the current which provides the heating effect and the current is a factor of resistance. Voltage is merely the "pressure" that pushes the current though the resistance.
We can be more accurate if you're able to measure the actual resistance. I had to calculate it from the domestic power 240V assumption and the power from your watt meter (which has unknown accuracy that can be determined in that video). It's close enough though. :)

Uk domestic supply is 230V, since 2003...

@@timriglar4502 230 Volts is the nominal Voltage In the UK, the tolerance for our electricity supply is 230 volts -6%, +10%. This gives an allowed voltage range of 216.2 volts to 253.0 volts.

@@timriglar4502 Nope, try measuring it and you'll see. It's harmonised with EU which is 230V within a range of -6% to +10%. The upper range is 253V which means that the UK 240V is within the tolerance for harmonised 230V.

I’m half way through your 48 vid MG4 playlist and finding it most useful & informative. So thanks! I’m also increasingly impressed by the MG4 the more I learn.

Thats nowhere near the maximum, if the lead is fitted with a 470Ohm Resistor it will output a full 7kw at 220v. If the lead is fitted with a 2K ohm resistor it will top out at just over 2.5kw at 220v, you need to make sure the lead is capable of taking 32amp 7kw if using the 470 Ohm resistor version

Presumably the output is limited by the capacity of the car's inverter, so those lucky enough to have cars with the 11kW inverter may potentially be able to draw up to 11kW (although maybe only via three phases).

@@sailingoctopus1 I do not think so. The 3 phase 11 KW charger can load at 7KW single phase. To make this possible the charger desing allows 7KW bi-directional single phase. The output should be limited (fused) accordingly the socket and lead or a 32A type 2 is used.

I've seen a video of somone taking 7 kW out of the V2L plug!

Great video, do you know if the 2020 MG ZS has the V2L functionality?

Is that the limit of the car or the V2L adapter ?

does all trim levels of MG4 has the V2L capability ?
