Dead on remarks about a working man's revolver
Kinda intriguing that Ruger now makes both single action revolvers and lever carbines.
That’s because they bought Marlin, which IMO was an excellent move!
True! They are doing good things with Marlin
I can watch six gun videos all day. I just love these!
👍
My kind of video Brian Pearce talking about sixguns. Love the old models especially!
👍
Great video on a gun people don’t talk about much anymore. I’ve owned blackhawks all my life. Couldn’t ask for a better reliable six gun
Agreed! The Blackhawk is an outstanding single action
I recently picked up a 50th anniversary Ruger BlackHawk in
.44 magnum, which is supposed to emulate the original .44 magnum BlackHawk that came out in 1956
Only differences of course, has the transfer bar safety, has the keylock safety that’s hidden under the grip (unlike smith and Wesson’s Clint hole thank god). And of course it’s engraved with
*50 years of .44 Magnum*
*---1956 to 2006---*
In gold
👍
I always love to listen to you Brian. I learn so much from you, especially on single actions and lever actions. My personal favorite firearms. Can’t forget the Sharps rifles too 👍 Excellent video.
Thank you and thanks for watching! I appreciate the support.
I just got an old model .357 a couple weeks ago. It’s wonderful. Slick as snot.
Very nice!
My old Flattop .357 may be the last gun I would ever part with.
👍
Why would you ever part with any of them?
Some are junk and others aren't worth owning

I’m a fan. Especially of the 4 5/8” ones. I need a .41 magnum to round out my collection in that length. Had a wonderful old model .357 with the 9mm cylinder but I passed it on to my nephew who now enjoys it. Great video!
Thanks for watching!
Off your review I bought a 44 flattop when they were new it has been everything a ruger blackhawk is supposed to be. Over the years I have put a set of Wolfe springs ,upgraded the rear sight with a Garza blade from rw grip frames that instantly helped shrink the groups and speed up the sight acquisition. Then I changed the frame to a colt style bisley frame from Ronnie wells. I went with the aluminum for weight reduction and a set of walnut stocks. I went with a bisley hammer and trigger and cleaned up the pull and made a crisp break. I chose to leave the factory bolt because it's simply a working gun and I felt that for my purpose fitting the oversized bolt and getting it aligned honed would have been creating problems elsewhere. I didn't want to make something that was so precise in fit that I'd have reliability in field use. The point of this rambling is that these improvements were all fit for me by me. There is tons of information and directions and top quality parts. These take tools that most of us already have. Ruger really made a top quality product and understood his customer and I will always have several ruger products.
Yes I agree! Thanks for sharing your experiences!
I love my old model Blackhawk. I wanted a steel grip frame, so I bought a steel grip frame for the Ruger Old Army black powder revolver. It's the same size as the alloy grip frame on the Old model Blackhawk, screwed right on with no modification and the grips fit perfectly. I did not do the lock work conversion, I'm of the school that says it screws up the action feel, the original is really smooth.
Yes I agree! I love the way the old models feel
PICKED UP A THREE SCREW BLACKHAWK WITH A 6.5 INCH BARREL MADE IN 1971.GREAT GUN VERY ACCURATE.WAITING ON MY HENRY BIG BOY 357 MAG LEVER ACTION.ALREADY HAVE A NMSBH 44MAG AND A HENRY BIG BOY 44MAG LEVER ACTION.GREAT VIDEO!!!!KEEP THEESE COMING.🇺🇸
Thanks for watching!
Great history.
In 1972 Ruger offered a brass Super Blackhawk grip frame on a number of Old Models. I had the Super Blackhawk. A friend bought all models of them.
I wish Ruger would bring back that brass grip frame. I would buy all the models that had them.
That would be cool if they did bring that back
Thank you Brian.
👍
That was a fantastic video. I've had many Ruger revolvers over the years but just recently got the single action bug. Single Six convertible got me going and now the 50th anniversary Blackhawk 357. Great fun!!! God Bless America 🇺🇸.
Thanks for watching!
Can't wait to hear about that new caliber for the Black hawk, the special edition one and those 475 & 500 Linebaugh Blackhawk customs as well
Stay tuned we have alot of cool stuff coming down the road
I have a 1969 .357 Blackhawk that used for Russian Blue Boar hunting in the Monterrey area and at Hunter Leggeit US Army base, I installed a 4x pistol scope on it. I hand load Boar loads, have dropped many 500lbs boars over the years.
Very nice! Thanks for sharing
Excellent video always loved the education 👍
Thank you!
I kinda feel bad, but in gunsmithing school, I converted one. Turned it into a 4 3/4" octagonal barrel 44 sp. 😮With a Powers custom, Colt grip frame. Made grips out of some leftover tiger stripe maple, that was left from my Mauser conversion stock. That I also made. With some more scraps, I made handle scales on my Bowie knife. I also made holsters, so of course made myself a belt set. I've shot the heck out of it.
Sounds like a great revolver. Stripped maple is beautiful wood
I had an old model Blackhawk, in30 carbine, it shot really good, the muzzle blast was incredible
Yeah they can be a bit load 😆
I have a first year Ruger Blackhawk 44 Mag with 6.5" barrel. I love the original action. The trigger is excellent. No conversion for mine thanks. Great presentation Brian, thank you! The only problem is that I am now scouting around for a Blackhawk .337 Mag flattop... the struggle is real. lol
😆 thanks for watching!
@@PearceBrothersGearGuide My pleasure! And I actually bought a 1964 Excellent cond 357 3-screw. The price was under $700! I picked it up from the dealer today = it looks almost brand new and unfired. Unbelievable.
Very good video and very knowledgeable. I prefer the untouched 3 screw models myself I own 5 of these from 22 357 and a 41 I did see a video where the guy said his would fire in the halfcock position iv personally never had a issue with any of mine
Thanks for watching! And yes we personally don't trust the half cock position with carrying 6
Very interesting and educational video - thanks!
I have not had a chance at many older Ruger but my dad always carried a 1963 made Blackhawk with the 6 1/2 inch barrel and I could hit fairly small targets pretty easy out at 75 to 80 yards I did get one of those lipsey special run flat tops in 44 special and I have a super Blackhawk 44 mag but the only older Ruger I was able to get was a older model single six and it did come with a 22 magnum cylinder as well as the 22 long rifle cylinder
👍
I love my old 3 screw Ruger Blackhawk also have the 50th anniversary model
👍
Thats a great presentation! Good video! Feel like Im saying that about all your videos, lol but you guys really bring it, I have not seen one of your videos that I didn’t enjoy, thank you guys!
Much appreciated! Thank you!
I have a 1976 model Blackhawk .357 Centennial Model stamped MADE IN THE 200TH YEAR OF AMERICAN LIBERTY. It has walnut grips. I have carried it with me hunting since bought in 1976.
Very cool! Thanks for sharing
Great video. A successful transition from the printed page. Not easy I'm sure
Thanks for watching! And yes it's certainly different doing videos
Very nice! Those blackhawks are a great single action!
👍
That’s very interesting I still wish I had some of my old Ruger‘s that I let get away oh well I was a lot younger and not quite as smart. Looking forward to finding out what’s coming out soon definitely interested thank you for a great video.
I think we all have ones we wish we didn't sell. Thanks for watching
I have a Blackhawk Bisley in .44 mag that I love. I find the Bisley grip so much more comfortable and easy to shoot. I have a new vaquero I got as my first revolver in .45 colt that I never shoot anymore because I just don't like that standard plow style grip and standard hammer.
The Bisley grip frame certainly handles very well
My Blackhawk is a 1967 vintage that I purchased used and looks like new!
👍
Love their convertibles. Wish they made a lot more so I don't have to search hard for them.
👍
Great video Brian, keep it up.
Thanks, will do!
have 1 .357 mag its a colt 3-5-7 circa 1956 . My blackhawk is in .44 spl. , I believe it was built on the 357 frame . Bought it new in 2011.
Very nice!
Such great information! Thank you for sharing this video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
A change I’d like to see with New Model Blackhawks is cylinder rotation CW or CCW when the loading gate is opened.
Yes I agree!
I was wondering awhile ago if you had a Keith #5. I’m gonna have one built one day.
Yes I've got two that were built by Hamilton Bowen... I've is a very close copy of Keith's and the other is a plain version
Great information as always!!
Thank you!!
You bet!
Good video, sadly I have never been able to shoot a sa accurately.
The single action can take alot of practice to master. Thanks for watching!
Just found your channel. Very interesting video. I have a number of old model Ruger single actions, .357, .41 magnums, ,44 magnums, & .45 Colts. None of the revolvers have been modified by Ruger or anyone else. All of my old model Ruger revolves except the .357 have cylinders with recessed chambers except for the .357. I don't recall ever seeing a Ruger .357 with a recessed chambers. I have been told that this is because the .357 is modern cartridge that never used "balloon" head cases. However the .41 and .44 magnums are also modern (more modern than the .357). It appears that your Ruger .357s cylinders do not have recessed chambers. Do you have any idea why this is the case and have you every seen an old model single action Ruger .357 cylinder with recessed chambers?
Keep up the good work!
wow right now in Canada they banned new pistol or handgun sales... if that changes I will snag one for sure. Some of us are fortunate because we were grandfathered and have them...
I'm sorry to hear about Canadian gun laws
Another great video
Glad you enjoyed it
Do you know when Ruger is bringing out a new Blackhawk and what caliber it will be in
Stay tuned, we will be announcing that soon!
We are all so lucky to hear the thoughts of Brian Pearce on six guns. Not many of the Great six gun masters left, Brian is one of them.
Thank you very much! Glad I can share my knowledge
I have a question at my local pawn shop there is a 3 screw .44 but at the end of the barrel there is blueing missing about the size of a nickel. Would it be worth buying and having restored.
Collectors really favor original condition guns, so a refinish may not increase its value. If you want it as a shooter, perhaps some Brownells oxpho blue could make it look better without spending much money. I hope that helps and thanks for watching our channel.
@ thank you, that is what I thought so I have passed on it. However there are a few other places that have a few post 63’s I think I will try and pick the best couple up. I found one that I bought it is a 1970 4 5/8” barrel with hardly used for a good price. Keep up the video I really enjoy them.
My Blackhawk is chambered in 30 cal carbine
My .357/9mm 6 1/2” is my last gun to part with
👍
