Physical media is very much alive. This year was fantastic and 2025 is looking pretty good too. LG not making players isn’t the tragedy that people are making out.
Physical media is still doing pretty good. And people are jumping the gun on the news about LG not making players anymore. Bc LG players are just ok but not a top tear player like Sony players. And people saying physical media is in trouble bc there hardly any physical media in stores now. That's bc physical media has shifted to more to on line & alot less in store now. We should not be worried right now. Bc if you look at the weekly market sales charts & you would see the sales have been doing good for bluray's & 4ks & if physical media was slowing down we would not have gotten the keep 4k release or 1986 trick or treat 4k release or gotten a nightmare on elm street 4k release .So people need to calm down bc 2025 is looking to be a big year for physical media & don't be surprised if some of the upcoming catalog titles that are getting a 4k bluray release become one of the biggest physical media sellers of 2025
Physical media isn’t dying , it’s rising in online sales .
We have sooo many releases coming next yr.
LG not making players and going back to washing machines is no loss.
Panasonic has released a new player in our market. It’s does Dolby vision and HDR10+ for about 170. Ub450. It’s been in other markets for years but just got to United States this year.
Physical pretty good shape, more makes out their than lg for bluray players. So no Physical media is not dying.
Absolutely, we still have Panasonic and Sony left. I believe as long as Sony is still in the game we are good to go, they leave and it's worrying.
As long as base Sony Playstations support disc drives..the media isn't dying..
Game consoles are barely supporting disc drives. They'd like to go fully digital, and stores are already not selling physical disc other than online, just like movies. It's only a matter of time, and disc drives on electronics are pretty uncommon now, and not as many companies are making them. I believe as long as Sony is still in the bluray game, we are good to go. The only issue is that the more it becomes less common, the higher the price becomes.
Never too late for this movie ... It's crazy how people have normalized faulty players that your paying top dollar for
Good video
They say some players have better picture quality
I wonder what one is truly the best
I just received Demolition 4K boxset Man yesterday. There was a delay from Amazon by one day.
When DVD came out I had pioneer players then blu ray came and I had pioneer player and then 4K I had an oppo 203. I love physical media and have an extension collection I always prefer it than streaming. Streaming has it's place for those that just want to watch a movie and are not bothered by the full immersive cinema experience. I have a room with 7 speakers etc whereas the regular streamer just has the TV. Look at it this way, a vinyl collector prefers records over CD, a CD collector prefers disc over iTunes and Spotify....it's all about preference at the end of the day
Great vid !
Since Sony owns blu and 4K I’m sure they will always produce players - I personally don’t feel that other companies stopping production are in any way related to the mainstay of physical media.
👍😁👍
Panasonic has a new line out that has DOLBY VISION as well... the UB450... for $171!!!! new Best Budget 4k player!
Everybody needs to remember, that it’s not just Sony, and Panasonic. We also have Magnetar, who makes a decent 4K player.
🤣😂 man, ain't nobody paying those prices! Not everyone is that deep of an enthusiast to pay those prices. There's a reason the bigger known brands sell ample number of units and why the Magnolia section of bestbuy left years ago. Even the upper line of Panny doesn't move the units it deserves based on specs, longevity, and craftsmanship because of the higher price. But I do fully understand what you are saying.
@ Yes, they are pretty expensive, but if push came to shove, I’d start counting my Pennies!
You can find 4K players for less than $200. The one you listed is one that has Wi-Fi and streaming capabilities, but those dedicated just for playing video can be found at a much more reasonable price. Guess it depends on what someone needs
Absolutely!! but again, most of these 4K players at less expensive prices have trouble playing triple layer disc and will freeze or not even play the disc. So yes, choosing the right specifications and being willing to deal with those issues are key. I only connect mine to the internet to see if there's a new update available. Thanks for info, sub up if you haven't already 😉
I don't know if 4K is dying, but I'm getting sick of the prices.
Man, ABSOLUTELY! we can't even say "well that's just the preorder price. It will drop" anymore 😢. I know it's subjective, but in my opinion, a lot of titles are not worth the $35+., and that's just the slip sometimes 😳 steelbooks are even worse.
if Panasonic start thinking this way then i'll be worried but until then I'm not bothered bout LG. They can go back to making kitchen appliances
That's how I feel, but replace Panasonic with Sony
LG still makes their popular computer optical drives they only stopped making their set tops
Seems like every week or every month there is another video about physical media dying. I say just keep trucking and focused on collecting
🤣😂😂 yep but you can't deny it's not what it used to be. Will it leave like vinyl and compact disc did? Only time will tell.
More and more TH-camrs doing this sort of video, jumping on the bandwagon, it’s tiresome.
@Chris-w6q1c not my first time talking on this subject over the years and won't be the last either if format specific news drops that put a strain on the format and collectors. Should check out my old videos and see I'm not just a bandwagon channel creator 😉
Hi, just a quick tip you need to look directly into the camera. Subscribing.
If you don't know... the lg and sony are terrible with triple layer 4k discs.. those 100gb discs. They tend to freeze while jumping between the layers. The panasonic 820 is one of the few that dont...it is worth the money
I've never had an issue with my Sony.
Yes, that's what makes the panny players the best in class. No hiccups, most of there's will run through the disc with no issue
How are you doing, my friend? I agree with you that but we also have Phillips making players too as well and two other manufacture so we have four or five manufacturers technically we have Samsung too cause I haven’t seen anything about Samsung not making, but I think we’re doing very well with the manufacturer we have they’re just a little pricey like you said I collect 4K physical media. I enjoy it. I’ve just started my 4K clutch and turning all my Blu-ray over to 4K. Is they come out? I don’t mind paying that little extra for the better detail. What’s your opinion on this and I hope you’re having a great holiday
Samsung stopped producing 4k players for the US in 2019. I, too, love the format, and that why I only buy 4k disc and not bluray. As long as my favorite titles become available, I'll be purchasing them as long as the PRICE is right!
LG has been discontinuing many of their problems since a few years ago. There are other brands to choose from, limited but there are. Don't create that panic for Christ sake.
😂😂😂😂 what would collecting physical media and content creating be like if we didn't panic after every announcement that is bad news for us?
I guess stock up on a good 4k player while we can I can see other companies not making them
Based on what exactly?
We are down to what two companies producing new players in the future. If there are any that do exactly what they are intended its best to grab one now rather than later due to prices going up on the second-hand market once those are on store shelves anymore. Do I believe eventually there will be none? No, as long as Sony is around, I think we are good. Is this something to go in a frenzy about right this moment? Absolutely not, but I wouldn't just ignore it and think we will 100% be okay in the next year or two.
I believe it boils down to how much you are willing to pay for a dedicated player and what specifications and longevity you are looking to get out of it.
@4KDRAY Wrong, we are not down to two companies AT ALL.
LG was never very good anyway, so good riddance.
😂😂😂 ....I wouldn't take it that far, likely means someone doesn't have a job anymore or won't have one soon unless they relocate them to another department
