I might argue that Dirk changed the game more than any player of his generation. When Dirk entered the league the 3-point shot was really not tightly defended. Unless you were Ray Allen or Reggie Miller, teams were happy to let their opponent shoot from distance. Dirk's arrival as a 7-foot tall forward who could shoot almost 40% from 3, it completely changed the way defenses were forced to match up. Suddenly the game opened up a lot more as defenses were stretched so much further than they were before. This naturally led to higher scoring games and a higher tempo style of play which is carried on by players like Lillard and Steph. Love the basketball and soccer content, Tifo. Keep it up!
that argument wouldn’t stick. stephen curry is one of the most influential and generational player of all time. dirk did change the game, but nowhere near as much as curry.
I agree that he changed the game more than anyone in the last 25yrs. 7 footers were not known to be going all the way out to the 3pt line until Dirk came along. Now you have all the bigs in the game shying away from the paint and going all the way out to 3pt land. You can thank Dirk for this. However most cant be Dirk and never will. Thats what alot of players fail to realize. He was almost one of a kind👍👍
I dont think there has been or ever will be a more impressive playoff run than 2011. The teams Dallas overcame, when everyone was counting them out, makes that title all the more rewarding and special, especially if you were around to witness it live.
His playoff scoring (volume + efficiency), once adjusted for pace, has only been matched by Jordan, LeBron, and Shaq, he’s one of the greatest scorers ever That level of floor spacing and scoring gravity at his position is game- and floor-bending, which is why he’s been on so many high level offenses; he’s a matchup nightmare, opens up the floor for teammates, and fits like a glove next to basically any player ever
Sadly the entire preconceived notion of European basketball players being soft is still alive in the NBA. Just look at how Luka and Jokic have been treated.
I say it was. but with Giannis, Jokic and Luka proving themselves after their rookie season, that is mostly gone. In fact it's now players like Brooker who are getting that treatment now.
@@ola_eboda There is no objective proof that European players are softer. In fact considering how easy it is to score in the NBA I dare say that the NBA is the softer league compared to Euroleague.
You forgot to mention that due to injury he developed his signature move. He is my favorite player all time. It was beautiful how he got the best of flash. He ring and the way he got is worth more than many of the other players. Simply put it he is generational talent
He didn’t change the game. He was an elite midrange shooter like the euro bugs before him and he shot a couple 3s game. Analytically preferred over his peers that stole mvps. Kobe and Nash notably.
@@beastoonline1991 yes he does. He´s very famous and widely regarded as one of the nation´s best sports guys ever and also as a great guy overall. I've always thought that if you swapped Dirk with Duncan the Spurs win just as many championships. But because it didn't work out like that I have to say T. Duncan is the best PF of all-time with Dirk being a close 2nd.
Giannis was a relatively unknown player when he was drafted. A complete question mark. There's no way to know for sure, but Dirk got more eyes in Europe.
Thank you for making basketball content on tifo, as a European interested in both football and basketball, this is one of the best channels out there

I love that tifo is doing basketball Sensible trades and/or Sensible offseason moves should definitely become a thing
Let’s keep growing Tifo basketball. There’s so much potential here for great content
Dirk would average 30+ pts per game if he entered the league around 2010. But the league might not have become that way if he wasn´t drafted in 1998

I love it
Love watching videos about the legend, Dirk Nowitzki. Thanks Tifo.
