Take expected amount of time to make a hike ...add 30% more time for going back and getting cameras and setting up shots...add 10% for petting and talking to random animals. Your extra efforts will never go unappreciated.
@4ourfutureinfinity True about added weight. Benefits: keeps snow/water out of your socks and, most importantly, you have less of a chance to experience a sprain ankle, especially on the descent. It all depends of the structure of the trail.
>no annoying intro music >no overtly loud and obnoxious aesthetic meant to entertain toddlers >no douchetuber-tier vlogging style beginning with "What's up everyone!" >atmospheric backdrop, quiet persona >amazing footage and captures You my friend, have earned a new subscriber. This is the kind of channel I've been looking for ages for.
I did this hike in 2017 and I was pleasantly surprised to see the dog in the end. The dog's name was Alejandro and I'm glad to see that he's still doing well!
The dog at the end of your trail video hiked the entire Santa Cruz Trek with my husband and me in May 2017!! He was the best guide :) :) We were so happy to see him still living his best life at the time you hiked the SCT 2 years ago.
This feels sooooo weird to watch. I did the same trek last year and now I almost completely relive it by watching this. Was such an emotional hike for me as I went through a rough patch last year and my trip to South America was like a turn-around moment. Reaching the top during this trek (also did the Salkantay Trek to Macchu Pichu, which gave me an equally emotional feeling) was such a glorious moment. Love it, Kraig. Thanks for sharing.
Need to watch it, when it says "solo hike" - you actually put that idea in my head of doing a solo hike trip a few months ago. and a film without saying a word. also need to do that.
That's better than the movie "Into the Wildness", at least Kraig doesn't die in the end. Keep yourself alive Kraig. Your videos are so inspiring!!! Looking forward to the next ones.
My friend this is nothing short of spectacular. This videography does not belong on the TH-cam platform and you deserve more publicity. I have been a fan of your channel for a while, all I can say is you have grown.
Loved doing this trek, especially with all the dogs that join along and act as your trail guide!

Hello, Kraig, I'd love to meet you one day. You do a great job and you tell it emotionally well. My English is very bad, but I hope you will understand me, it is appreciated that you portray nature so well and visualize it. It's a pleasure to watch and follow you.
Did this trek about 20 years ago. Combined travels with treks from just outside Cuzco to the Urabamba valley and Machu Picchu. Finished in Lima and a spectacular sunset dinner overlooking the Pacific.
Last year I spend 5 months around Peru, solo trekking through Santa Cruz, Huayhuash, Colca, Salkantay. Thank you for the opportunity to relive a few of these moments through your video. What a country with all pros and cons, a year later I still feel like Peru stole a piece of my heart. (btw. be careful with stray dogs in South America, I learned my lesson hard way 😉)
Man, the Santa Cruz trek is one of my all time favourites. I absolutely loved re-living it through your footage. Honestly your videos are a breeze of peace and serenity, a true joy to watch. Great work!
An epic production! I am visiting South America for the first time in April and I can't wait (I'll be treking around near Punta Areanus and them machu pichu/cusco in Peru :D
That timelapse at 5:20 just dropped my jaw.. wow u did it again. Awesome! Can't wait to get my itchy feet there. Really grateful for your awesome videos. Thanks for inspiring the world ;)
Hypoxia is no joke! Being at 14-15,000 feet *anyone* will feel signs of hypoxia without supplemental oxygen. First signs show for most people at altitudes above 8,000 feet already! Big respect from me that you did this hike with (seemingly) few days to acclimatize!
I never watched a hiker following this trail with supplemental oxygen. I am peruvian from the coast and did it too with my family on August 2023. Acclimatized one day at Huaraz, other at Yungay and another more at Vaqueria before starting the trek, no oxygen needed for a group of 57, 56, 19 and 12 years old. Some headaches after Punta Union pass, but that was all. It was a beautiful experience, coming back after 20 years.
Hi Kraig, thank you for posting your amazing vids and helping me breath and dream. They are so good. You're a legend, never stop making them! Cheers, NM, Australia
Undervalued video Kraig, especially from 2:49 to 5:33 where you start to change shots with the music, brilliant work mate... just a perfect place, heaven on earth
Hey Kraig! We're here in São Paulo travelling with you in Peru trought your beautiful videos. They inspire us a lot and we wish you the best for your next trip. We are here waiting for that. Good luck!! Marcos and Ondina.
Thank you Kraig Adams for this wonderful video. This is so spectacular. I did this hike 42 years ago in 1982 , it reminds me of beautiful memories. The funny thing is that a little dog followed us during the entire trek. Thanks again, you do a great job. 👋👋👋
Great videos! I’m loving them! Thank you so much for all the info and relaxing virtual hike. Just an observation….Huaraz is pronounced “wah-RASS” not “hoo-a-ress”….just in case someone else is trying to get there. Also the Sol de Cusco chocolate bar you were eating is meant to be melted into a few litres of water and hot milk to drink as hot chocolate. It makes around 8 cups. You’re a brave guy to chew it!
I made a couple hiking videos, but without such a clear intention of creating a project like this. I was just trying to learn to make videos and I go hiking anyway. Anyway, I've enjoyed doing making those videos even though I have a lot of room for improvement. I didn't know that hiking videos were a thing people do until I found yours recently and have been binge watching them. Your hiking videos are great! I especially like the way you've been editing your hiking videos in a quiet manner followed with a talking recap of the trip. I've learned a lot of lessons. Much appreciated!
I did this trek a dozen years ago. Your video brought back good memories. Except the van ride. I was slightly terrified and at one point, opposing traffic forced traffic drama until we could maneuver the vehicles and have people hang on the sides to obtain clearance to pass.
Im so thankful for youtube algorithms for recommending this channel. The scenes were so breathtaking. Im so excited to earn a lot of money and spend it all for travels..
Those are the videos you save for the days when you feel stressed, or sad and you just need a short holiday from everything with a good friend. Kraig invented a whole new genre of videos: Holiday for the mind. Never experianced similar videos.
That's a perfect description for what these are. I use this as a meditation replacement during times when it's too hard to even close my eyes and let the thoughts slow down
Seriously, thank you soo much Kraig! i was that kind of guy who gets stressed by anything and thinks so much about literally anything. but then i found out your videos, i open my mind while watching them and trying to not thinking about anything, it works dude! your videos really gave a fresh breath to me, and giving peace to my brain and soul.. it cures my stress and depression, your videos are soo beautiful and magical! thank you so much for doing this! i loved them soo much! ( anyway sorry for my bad english and grammar )
this is so touching for me. 10 years ago, i had a dream to be a trekker and Sata Cruz trekking was my first trekking. Now i am a dad of two sweethearts, go to work everyday, living in a big city... But every scene of this video feels like just yesterday happening. thanks a lot.
Mate that shot of you walking the ridge line with the mountains behind at 3:10 is EPIC. I've been binge watching your stuff and your adventures have certainly added a few trips to my bucket list!
Enjoying the world and creating a better world by sharing these vids. What an epic youtuber you are! Bless you buddy for sharing these wonderful scenes with us.
I like your style of production on this video. Many outdoorsmen/YTrs like to focus on themselves, talk a lot about unimportant things over the beauty around them. But, I do like how you did talk about important things in the last half. A nice set up!
Wow dude you really get around! I am one of the few that travels into far away back woods areas but nothing compare to your amazing travels! Thanks for documenting these travels you filmed for all to see are simply amazing! Like a modern John Muir....
Wonderful video. My wife and I did the Salkantay Trek earlier this year. We wanted to go to Huarez and do the Santa Cruz and other hikes but the mountain bus rides were brutal (she gets motion sick on buses) so we went to Araquipa instead. Your video makes me wish we would have made it.
I'm 5 minutes in, and had to pause to comment. These hiking films are really spectacular. Your ability to capture the natural beauty of the landscape and inspire awe in the audience is phenomenal. The frames you create make the world seem so vast, even from behind a computer screen. The music just fits, calms. Thank you, and I hope to see many more!
I've been watching your videos for two weeks now. Did a little back logging into your older content and man your content and your ethic is like night and day. Finding your niche has really progressed your platform. The hiking videos and commentary really works, please keep it coming and stay safe in the world of Covid-19.
This is by far the best shot in my entire youtube life. Not just remind me of 4 good days hike there but also give me such a calm and relaxing mood. Thanks for hiking, recording, editing, and sharing it.
Kraig, I so love how you manage to portray the majesty and wonder of our world, I would be so easy to show the touristy things but you seem to choose in your editing to show a wonderful world in which we live. I also love the simple honesty in which you describe how you reached your target. Thank you.
You are a true inspiration, every time I ride my bicycle or I want to escape in my mind I think of you, and I really get relaxed, thank you and keep up the great work!!!
omg i really can't believe this it's like all this nature from a video game or something ! keep it up Kraig we really really admire your videos and your adventure
I love love love watching your travel videos. It's like meditating. I always save them for the evening when I'm at home and can enjoy the highest quality on the biggest screen. Truly amazing work, and watching these make me want to go out there and walk it myself.
Bro... don’t you ever stop loving what you are doing!! I have never seen something so inspirational with zero words! Keep up the amazing content brotha!! Straight love here from Michigan!!✊🏾✊🏾🤟🏾🤟🏾
You have such a talent for the manner in which you film these. Obviously you put a ton of time in to these. Love the shots of the rain from under the tent to the time lapse shots, and some killer drone work...just amazing. Keep on keeping on.
Hi man, just wanted to say that in my opinion, you're one of the best content creator here on TH-cam for outdoor enthusiasts. I can't stop watching them and the little guides that you upload after the hikes are perfect to inspire us to do it ourselves! A lot of love from Canada! Take care, and keep doing what you love!

To pet random animals actually would give more benefit to yourself, moreso when someone is solo travelling.
We've got to get this wonderful young man a pair of good hiking boots.
@4ourfutureinfinity True about added weight. Benefits: keeps snow/water out of your socks and, most importantly, you have less of a chance to experience a sprain ankle, especially on the descent. It all depends of the structure of the trail.
I think he runs when he's not filming
How about just dont hike there , u know it could be complete trouble so why bother ? It's Peru one of the most dangerous places on earth.
>no annoying intro music
>no overtly loud and obnoxious aesthetic meant to entertain toddlers

The dogs are his Guardian Angels
I don't know what to say, these mountains are so beautiful. You are the most lucky guy who can walk through those.
Probably my favorite hiking videos so far
This feels sooooo weird to watch. I did the same trek last year and now I almost completely relive it by watching this. I’m starting salkantay tomorrow morning!
Thanks for sharing yourself Florent.
Rx es un I'm
Nothing can be more relaxing or soothing than watching your videos.
Some shots in those videos seems straight out of a million dollars worth movie production, simply stunning.
GRACIAS POR VENIR A PERU ES UNA MARAVILLA
Need to watch it, when it says "solo hike" - you actually put that idea in my head of doing a solo hike trip a few months ago.
and a film without saying a word. also need to do that.
@@kraigadams I'll let you know, when I do.
This was pure in every sense of the word.. why is this guy not working for national geographies. Adam is one of the best story teller on youtube.
PERU IS AMAZING
WONDERFUL..

Hmm i do not think so

Man I LOVE smoking a joint lay back and watching your videos... your videos conecct me to nature !
The word extraordinary doesn't even come close. What views! What camera work!
That's better than the movie "Into the Wildness", at least Kraig doesn't die in the end. Keep yourself alive Kraig. Your videos are so inspiring!!! Looking forward to the next ones.
How beautiful this is! Thanks for sharing!
My friend this is nothing short of spectacular. This videography does not belong on the TH-cam platform and you deserve more publicity. I have been a fan of your channel for a while, all I can say is you have grown.
In my critical and valuable opinion you are producing the best travel and hiking vlogs on TH-cam, keep it up.
This solo multi-mile hikes in other countries takes a lot of risks and courage. Another great vid!
You should start renting out a movie theatre to screen these, would be nothing short of fantastic
Love how you just hear the sounds of hiking, and nothing else.
Beautiful. Reminded me of when I climbed Alpamayo and Huantsan, very nearby Santa Cruz.
Loved doing this trek, especially with all the dogs that join along and act as your trail guide!
Hello, Kraig,
I'd love to meet you one day. You do a great job and you tell it emotionally well. My English is very bad, but I hope you will understand me, it is appreciated that you portray nature so well and visualize it. It's a pleasure to watch and follow you.
“My English is bad”
My guy, your English is better than a lot of native speakers I know
This guy: "My English is very bad".
Also this guy: "it is appreciated that you portray nature so well and visualize it".
Bruh!!!! LOL
Hermoso mi Peru!! 🇵🇪🇵🇪🇵🇪😆
Muy emocionado de ver tanta belleza, mil gracias por compartir estos videos, excelente produccion.
Your videos are saving my quarentine, thanks from Brazil
Wow the scenery is absolutely breathtaking. Thanks for your videos
I love how Kraig cares about all the dogs he meets. Such a gentle hearted person. ❤️
Did this trek about 20 years ago. Combined travels with treks from just outside Cuzco to the Urabamba valley and Machu Picchu. Finished in Lima and a spectacular sunset dinner overlooking the Pacific.
these shots are incredible . well done sir
Stunning video - great presentation of pure nature not spoiled with selfies - and great information at the end !
You are the only youtuber that deserves 1 billion subscribers
I love the zen quality of your videos. I love the drone shots, the animals, the close ups of plants. They're really relaxing to watch.

Great hike & incredible scenes.. Peru is a lovely place..
That timelapse at 5:20 just dropped my jaw.. wow u did it again. Awesome! Can't wait to get my itchy feet there. Really grateful for your awesome videos. Thanks for inspiring the world ;)
You skipped the laguna on the third day! One of the highlight of the trek. Great video, brought back some good memories.

wow the path with a very beautiful view,,,
🇮🇩🌲♥️
man, these were some of the most beautiful drone shots i've ever seen. truly captivating from start to finish.
the music lining up with the cuts is just *chef’s kiss* (esp around 4:30) expert filming and editing as always, thank you for this 💛
I loved the trip explanation at the end, and the fact that there are no dislikes on this says everything.
Your color grading is nothing short of amazing. Everything from exposure/contrast and even saturation. Simply, just beautiful...

I hired a car, a station wagon, since we were four people. To go from Huaraz to Yungay and also from Yungay to Vaqueria.
One of the best yet. The shot with the parallax effect at 3:15 is just complete bonkers
You're the GOAT hiking filmmaker. The cinematography was stunning. Thank you for such a masterpiece of a film.
I love how the ride is shaking like crazy and you're still so very calm!
Awesome video thanks. Really getting motivated to hike Peru and do both Machu Picchu and this or another trek in 1 trip this winter to prep for the AT
I love your videos about Peru! You make my country look even better. Come back soon!

I've always wanted to go to Peru. This is just more inspiration.

The quality of the video overaly (the shots, the angles, the sound/music, the way it is edited) is awesome and really satisfying to watch! :)
Improving your mood, decreasing your anxiety and even improving your memory. That's great.
You have such a talent for the manner in which you film these. Obviously you put a ton of time in to these. Love the shots of the rain from under the tent to the time lapse shots, and some killer drone work...just amazing. Keep on keeping on.
I hope to one day get to do something similar in Peru. Your rendition is again a masterpiece! Kudos Kraig.
Favorite shot at 5:09 most people just put the camera away when it rains, but you made it interesting! You’ve killing it man ✊🏼
I LOVE the format of quiet video + hiking guide. Thank you!
Thanks!
