Watching this at a time when the Scottish Parliament is about to debate and possibly pass a law to make assisted dying legal. At least in Scotland. I honestly don't know what I think of the matter, but if the patient is clear about their intentions and wish to end their life peacefully, I also wonder whether we really have the right to suppress their decision. At the same time, it is not that easy as 'assisted dying' means that someone else will be responsible for administrating whatever it is that will end their life. I suppose that medical staff in hospitals are somewhat used to it as with my own mother, turning off the machines or not administering the next round of medication has the same consequence. Not exactly the same, I know. Her doctor at the hospital knew my mother both professionally and coincidentally, also lived in the same village. It couldn't have been easy for him to suggest ending the life support systems even though it was abundantly clear that my mother was at the end of her natural life.
