Excellent product review. Very informative, detail oriented, and truly appreciate your extensive and technically accurate vocabulary. I really didn't want to spend this much money on a geared head but something tells me I will be thinking of this review if I get something less. Sincerely, thank you.
I rarely comment on videos or product reviews, but have to say this one is fantastic. Thomas...the great audio is appreciated, slow descriptive measured speech. I watched the whole thing. !! :)
Very nice video Thomas, thanks for your time. I'm waiting for my Manfrotto MT190XPRO4 4 Section Aluminum Tripod and 410 Junior Geared Head to get here... (Watched pot never boils syndrome yanno....) After MUCH study, this is the gear I elected to go with for my Vortex Razor spotting scope. Weight and small controlled movement is what I need. Carry on!
Thank you Thomas: awesome review of those two Manfrotto geared heads! You have helped me decide on the 405. :-) In case you are still looking (and haven't bought it already) i use the RRS BH-55 for when i am hiking w/ 35mm gear. It is the best ball head i have ever owned. But i gotta admit, i will probably love the control of the 405 even more. Thanks again!
I just got a 405 to handle a Fuji GX680 mf camera that is a beast of a camera. I also plan getting a Sinar P2 camera in the future. I always research and test before I buy a head. I was going to get a 410, but I wasn't sure it would handle the weight of heavier P2 when i got it so I went w the 405 instead.
Hi thanks for the vid, very helpful and informative. Was looking at the 405 and a couple of the reviews on Amazon UK and they said the 405 heads started to fall apart after a few months use. Was wondering if you have encountered similar problems with the 405. One also said Manfrotto wouldn't honour the warranty, after it failed after only 8 months. Kinda put me off buying one, but I'm seriously thinking about getting the even more robust 400, looks like it's built like a tank, lol. John
Have you any feedback about ur manfrotto 405 jr? I'm looking for this head for landscape photography... And also other application. I'm torn between the 405 jr and the 804RC2 both from manfrotto.
Hi Thomas! Thanks for this video, really instructing and useful! I had a question, I was thinking to upgrade to a panoramic head and was thinking in the Manfrotto junior geared head 410 but was not sure if it worth going for this one in particular or going for an off-centre Nodal Ninja head type? Thanks in advance! All the best!
Thanks for your comparison! What do you think are the main differences between the two heads? Except for the worm gear thing and the size. Yesterday I got a defect 405 head as a present, so now I have them both, too, but I want to decide which one I will keep. Because it has to be repaired, I was not able to test it yet. What I can say is that the 405 does have the risk of damaging the worm gear, too, but it's much less noticeable.
You are welcome, I always seem to take too long. If I was able to help just one person make a decision to buy the right piece of gear, I am happy. Thanks for watching, Tom
Review length was perfect because it was packed with USEFUL information from start to finish. Not too long at all. The reviews that are too long are those that waste my time describing the box and the amount of bubble wrap and all the languages the literature comes in. This was a top draw review. Thank you very much.
Peggy Stevinson Bair as long as the tripod has a hook on the bottom of the center column you can add as much weight as you need to pin it down. I hang my camera bags on the center hook. Hope that helps, Please if you have any more questions, ask away. Lastly, please subscribe, it makes. Huge difference to me.
I was thinking of just adding a stone bag. The main thing is that I'm trying to keep the equipment and weight as simple as possible. But, yes, thank you, I just didn't want to have a top-heavy tripod with the 405 head on it.
Very good review - no waffle - straight talking - Pros and cons given, well presented, thanks.

Great review, thanks for taking the time to go over the heads in such detail. I wish everyone did reviews as good as this!!
Hey, thanks so much for taking the time and showing how these work. I just ordered the 405 today and can't wait to get it.
I got here as I am looking to get a 410. Thanks for the video Thomas.

Hi Thomas - Very helpful video nicely produced. Thanks.
Awesome review. Great point about the 410 worm gears; you're the first I've heard to mention that.

What's the difference between 410 and 3275 geared head?

Has anyone used a gearhead like these mentioned for tripod-based macro use? Especially for longer macro lenses (say 180/200mm).

Is there a minimum tripod weight you would recommend for the 405?

Keep and fix the 405 or keep the 410 and send me the 405 ;)
