Not included in this video: Miguel Bezos (Jeff's adopted father) worked for ExxonMobil for 3 decades as an engineer and held management positions... they married in 1968... and Jeff was born in 63 so he was 5 when that financial stability kicked in. The 25,000 acre ranch he grew up working on was his maternal grandmother's (the famous George Strait line of the family)...
I'm sure his life wasn't super easy, but it is also true that Jeff isn't exactly the total rags-to-riches self made man one might think. I honestly think his adopted father has the more impressive story.
Jeff's background appears to be broadly middle class. In 1995, his parents loaned him $300,000 to help get Amazon off the ground. That's about a half million in today's money (and probably much more than that in next week's money 😉).
This is not to minimize his accomplishments. I just think we should push past the PR and look at the facts in context. Bezos certainly had opportunities not available to everyone (but fewer than some) and he made the most of the hand he was delt.

Then they became an online store and people started buying everything from them especially during the pandemic. People like to hate on Bezos but who is buying all of these products from Amazon. Who is causing all of these workers to fill orders? It's crazy how a man creates a service that at least 80% of the public uses and gets hate for becoming wealthy. Given, you should already have another job lined up so that you don’t have to go a few weeks without pay. But, if that’s not an option, govt welfare during covid is pretty good. Not great, but better than nothing.
At least right now, employers are so desperate for new employees, they’re often willing to schedule weird hour interviews or phone interviews, so not having time for an interview isn’t an excuse. Feeling trapped and actually being trapped are two different things. So poverty shouldn’t cause any issues, again, in the US.

The problem with Jeff Bezos is that he has publicly walked on the people who got him where he is today. I have always said there are two kinds of bosses in the world. The ones who take staff with them and the ones who walk all over their staff. Jeff is the latter. Does he give bonuses to his staff for good productivity? Does he give Christmas bonuses? This is just one example of why he is publicly perceived the way he is.

I think we see this kind behavior at most companies regardless of how people get treated. People with seniority or tenure usually put in less effort once they know they have job security. But these jobs aren't supposed to be the kind of job where people do them for more than 5 years or so, they are starter jobs hard work yes, but the kind of hard work that makes people respect a good job or the ability to go into a career where they enjoy working. But this is just my opinion, i know not everyone sees it this way. My very first job was in a factory that sold curtains, I would spend hours inside of a huge box cramming as many curtains as possible into that box. I lasted about 2 months. After that I never worked in a factory/shipping environment again. But when i was there i met some people who had been doing that job for over 15 years and they loved it. So all I'm saying is everyone is different and working at a place like that can do 2 things. Either create a long term drone, or someone who goes on to find something they enjoy doing like the design work i do now.

@@28ebdh3udnav Yeah but he's still not paying a fair share. If I make 50K a year I get taxed on that 50K. If Amazon stock increases 100% in 4 years Jeff's wealth goes from 100B to 200B meaning he made 25B per year. Most of that 25B is tax free because he barely sells stock. Instead he takes out a secured loan (25B as collateral) and he lives off the loan. Meaning he can technically use his money without selling his stock and only paying like 2% interest for his loan.
This is clearly a cheat for the rich. They get to accumulate wealth tax free because 99% of their income is awarded in stock. This bypasses income tax. Then whenever they need cash they take out loans against their stock, bypassing capital gains tax, and use the loan as spending money.
Meanwhile an average Joe like me can't do that. First most of my wealth is awarded as paycheck. Even if I wanted 100% of my check in stock my employer wouldn't allow it. I can put a fraction of my income in a tax free 401K but that's it just a fraction. The government limits how much you can put in a 401K because if it was unlimited we would all be avoiding taxes just like bezos.

While I believe that the taxation system needs an overhaul, it is first obviously important to to understand the issues from as practical a point of view as possible and not from an ideological perspective (because we are all flawed and limited and out thinking, even when well intentioned, can produce the wrong 'solutions' and undesired 'consequences'). I think not taxing share price increase is right. Only taxing when the share is sold is correct. This value presentations (Jeff Bezos is worth this amount, Warren Buffett is worth that amount) are misleading. It is the company that worth as much, not the person. And it is not an income. If the company goes bankrupt then this value disappears. If the share price gain would be taxed, then in case of bankruptcy the tax authorities also would not refund the tax collected before on the share price gain, right?

A simple jammer that hops every frequency from 915 to 925 MHZ (or an array of transmitters working in parallel) transmitting on the maximum allowed tx-power (milliwatts) should do the trick. Sure, your LEGITIMATE appliances on the same 900-mhz band will suffer, but then I guess one will have to choose between privacy and comfort.
