Bumpus was such a talent on sax, keys and backing/lead vocals. His lead vocals on “Jesus is Just Alright” (live) were soulful and really suited the theme of the song. Phenomenal cat!
This is amazing!! Alway so tight and Michaels voice is so smooth and soulful I can't get enough of listening to him...the band never disappoints and Cornelius is fabulous RIP Sir....❤ so much talent here
I know we all age. Hell I'm 65. I also know that certain ones of us who carry extra weight with other health conditions are siting time bombs. But Cornelius was such a gifted vocalist, sax player and organist. I've been a fan of this band since the early 1970's. Ik there is a constant bashing of new vocalist and musicians here but face it these guys could play. Now Michael admitted during his time with Doobie Brothers he considered himself to be a hacking pianist but trial by fire made him a solid keyboard player. As far as the rest of the Band is concerned imho are great musicians as well as good vocalist. Somebody must like them. I know 30-40 mil records sold may not be as many as some other artist but given their longevity in the business it says a lot. I know they will eventually have to give up their "train" just as I will have to give up some of my activities as I grow older!
Cornelius Bumpus it is ! He has a very good lead singer vocalist (you know the chap from Mac Donald…) and lots of talented back up vocals hmmm… I love it !
I've said it countless times. MM has an awesome vocal soul/sound....I just can't bloody understand him! The analogy for me has always been that he has just shoveled a mouthful of extremely hot oatmeal into his mouth, and now its trying to cool it off while singing.
I think this is one that isn't available for the quality just isn't there (in this clip) and I own a few DB Concert DVDs, been researching/buying them for years. BTW, this is a great version but I don't like they sped up the tempo from the Album Version.
Mark Jackson Thanks for replying. I never received a notification for some reason, so I'm just now seeing your comments. Good thing I decided to revisit this great clip! The video quality isn't great, but it's not bad either. The audio is clear, though. And, yes, I wish they had slowed the tempo down a tad on "Real Love," but MAN does Corny's sax enhance this tune! That alone makes it superior to the album version, in my opinion. I would love to see the rest of the video from which these few clips were taken. I can't believe the Doobies haven't released a high-quality/remastered video from this special reunion tour, seeing as it was such a big deal. Almost everyone who was ever in the band on the same stage = EPIC! I sure hope they surprise us with a special DVD or Blu-Ray release of this and soon. By the way, if you know of any other high-quality soundboard concert recordings from the McDonald era that are NOT on TH-cam, I would love to know. Thanks!
@@BigBusinessMan-o9g Oh no! I'm just reading your reply, and that video you linked to is gone now (and the account that posted it)! PLEASE let me know if you know of any alternative source that may have the full concert (especially in high quality). Thank you!
I saw The Doobie Brothers first in 1978. Then because of high school, college, marriage, having a kid, saw them next in 1989 or 1990 and during the 1990s several times, and in the 2000’s…. But over the last 8 years I’ve seen them 7 times with 3 meet and greet shows, behind the scenes with conversations with the band members. Such great shows! They brought their California based epic , funky, blues, country, picking, rock, …. on and on descriptions of my favorite American Band! I’m turning 58 next week and it’s been a long time since 1978. Their music is the soundtrack of my life! South City Midnight Lady is the BEST song ever written and performed! I’m a Doobie Gal and proud!
@@pamnichols7877 I saw them November 1980 at the Carolina Coliseum in Columbia, SC. Louisiana's LeRoux opened. In the late 80's, I served in the US Navy and was stationed in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. I didn't attend, but I remember that Michael McDonald came to the Busch Gardens Amusement Park in Williamsburg. I went to one concert there; The Charlie Daniels Band (with Krystal Gayle) on Memorial Day 1987. I also remember Survivor & also Tiffany performing there.
Michael McDonald’s blue-eyed soul and Cornelius’s sax makes this song great. RIP Cornelius.
Cornelius Bumpus!!! RIP.
Good lord.
THAT, ladies and gents, is Cornelius Bumpus.
None better. That man KILLED.

Cornelius Bumpus. Often imitated, never duplicated. That is all, y'all...
Gone too soon. Multitalented, unique cat.

I started listening to these when I was 12 years old
I am 56 now
There are a TON of very cool saxophone solos in this live version of the song that are not included in any other recording I've ever heard. Love this!
Oh your voice just get to me love.
I agree with you my friend.
That’s a wicked, rad intro!! Pure Doobs! Love Cornelius’ sax work here.
Saw the 87 Reunion Tour in San Diego. Still my all-time favorite concert.
Micheal can I pretend You wrote this Song for Me and Let Me just have one Slow Dance with You in my Dreams

Michael McDonald / The Doobie Brothers - Real Love - 1987 Reunion Tour (Rare)
Cornelius Bumpus was the BEST. !!!

Who was playing bass? Was it Willie Weeks? I know that he joined them for the One Step Closer Tour.
+mkl62 On this 1987 reunion tour I believe they had Tiran Porter playing the bass.
Yes, Tiran Porter was back on bass during the '87 tour. Willie Weeks played with the band during the 1982 "farewell" tour.
