Shug is one of the only people/"TH-camrs" that I wholeheartedly trust that his opinions are genuine. Just did a -5 hammock overnight. I rewatched old shug vids to see if I was forgetting anything or to get some tips before heading out. Thanks again Sean. Followed you from the hammock forums to TH-cam quite a few years ago and never looked back. I'll be checking out that podcast next.

Good stuff Shug! I orders some of their stuff A while back in two different orders(decided after the original purchase to add accessories) and they caught the double order and emailed me to tell me that they would send it in one order to save shipping. They refunded me difference! A lot of company’s wouldn’t do that. Good looking out on their part. That’s the kind of company that deserves a shout out. Thanks again!

You gave me an idea. I think that I'll buy one of those little titanium camp grates and fix myself up a camp table with some sort of removable socket so I can have a multipurpose piece of gear that I could justify taking on a long hike! 🤔
Nice to be up at 2 AM, having gone to bed early.
Good excuse to brew up an organic decaf with the cone dripper that I used to take hiking. For the past 10 years, I have been taking a reusable stainless mesh electric coffee drip basket. I put grounds in it, bring water to a boil in a large titanium pot, take it off the heat, set the basket in the water (can't make it too deep, or the grounds will overflow into the brew), let it steep, lifting and draining it a few times, remove it, and pour a couple of good cups of coffee. On the longer hikes, of course, I suck it up and use instant. 😞 Thanks for the vid and the idea! 👍Btw: I use an alcohol stove, hence the large pot. It's MUCH more efficient at capturing the broad, spreading flame pattern of an alcohol stove and, surprisingly, doesn't weigh appreciably much more than a 700 ml. cup (pot is a 1300 ml Evernew titanium with the handles removed (one was broken, so it was returned and marked way down - a lucky find. Have had it for 15 years!).
P.S. I'm glad that I discovered hammocking around the turn of the century. I never miss having a good camp chair!

Thank you, thank you, thank you, for this thorough A to Z review of this table. I have held off from purchasing a camping table for a year and a half and multiple camping trips, but this little table is so cleverly designed, has awesome accessories for customization and is super low in weight and volume.
I was so excited about it when presenting it to Santa Claus and his crew, that Santa and his Elves ended up with failure to communicate and I greatly benefited from it 😊 as Santa brought me a Big Mama with all available accessories and one of Santa’s Elves brought me a Best Buddy ❤️😎

Thank you, Shug, for summarizing the details surrounding this table md offering your opinion. I was fortunate to have come across the Schwarze Biene website perhaps a year ago or more. I have been saving for this table and the additional doodads for quite awhile, and I will be purchasing it despite the generally-perceived high purchase price. Why? Several reasons: 1) I cannot, without undue logistical difficulty, easily make it myself, 2) it appears to be of very good design and material quality, 3) it solves many mildly irritating problems regarding alternative storage/table options for a hammock user, and 4) it is being offered by a cottage business (which I like to support). I appreciate the fact that you continue to highlight new innovations, products , and/or ideas relevant to hangers and present them in your own affable style. Good stuff! Appreciate the heck out of your efforts!

I sometimes bring a weather- am/fm radio with me for camp and this table (with the aluminum poles) acts as a conductor of sorts. I get perfectly clear signal when the radio sits on the table and it seems to have a similar effect on cell reception though obviously less noticeable. Not the best selling point in the world, but sure as hell is a bonus. They ought to make a wind screen for cooking kits that can mount/lock in place I would have ordered that too in a heartbeat.

    • @shugemery

    • @wadepatton2433

Find the study materials to get ham license (amateur radio) and most all these mysteries of signal strength and propagation enhancement should begin to become clear.
Otherwise: yes, metal in the vicinity of an antenna will have an effect on the antenna, usually negative. The reason it appears to help one RF device and not the other is wavelength. The weather radio is using 162 mHz or VHF (close to the 2m ham band) and your cell device is likely running 800 and 1200 mHz bands, which is UHF (far smaller wavelength-with much less "penetrating power" of the lower frequencies).
The table and or the poles are close enough to 1/4 wave on VHF to enhance your reception. That and we usually have more than one NOAA-transmitter to choose from. Put into practical lay terms: One NOAA transmitter may cover several counties (back East counties) but it often takes a dozen cell-towers to cover one county. It's a function of location, frequency, and power levels. Basically our cell phones are short-distance machines when it comes to their actual radio "footprint", This helps reduce interference when used in areas of high-density radio traffic, but decreases their effective range. The AM/FM/VHF rig is RX-only and has no "footprint" only "ears" and it's listening to stations with good transmitter locations and higher power outputs, on frequencies that travel better.
Hope that gives you some insight as to the radio signal propagation you commented on. de W1ADE

Love the table. I wanted one since I saw the first version you have. At the time the Schwarze Biene tables were not available, so I made one with a cheap cutting board and a crossbow bolt. Not as many options, bells, and whistles as what is available from Schwarze Biene now, but for $7 I am not complaining. I use it next to my chair at the campfire and use it next to the hammock. It's a great accessory.

I love the idea with the adjustable poles to raise the platform....... I suppose it will help you "old man" ha ha to get your morning coffee from the hammock much easier.,.... no more reaching so far down from the hammock and risking falling out and knocking over the Trangia stove and then burn yourself.
but the price of around 60 Euros for one piece of the platform is quite steep.......but maybe if we wait a while the prices will go down, or we will get a packaged deal....because this seems to be a new company and they are dealing with novelties, the prices might vary in the future.
I will def keep an eye out for them.
