There's also a version of this game on GBA and like AWD! I stopped playing after Smaug died. Also for some reason I remember the Wood Elves being called Dark Elves and I think it was possible to get through the game without Bilbo naming his sword Sting, at least that happen to me before I died without saving.
All these fetch quests are giving me a Zelda vibe. I would have loved this back in the day it came out. It does also remind me a bit of the Harry Potter games and I do mean the earlier ones on PS2 and Gamecube. I want to actually play this now.
A few months back, I remember watching Clement do a Let's play of the gamecube version. I would get that version, but sadly, the GC controller feels a bit too small for my hands, and I just prefer the PS2 controller anyway, so the PS2 version it is. Also, gameplay wise, it feels very similar to another platformer called Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy, which has a PC version now.
Actually, there's some 20 - 25 percent of the game left, after the Smaug levels, but these final levels can't hold a candle to Smaug levels which are the sole reason to ever play this very uneven game. And do play the PC version, since there's a quick save option in that version, I think. Also, definitely watch the 70s Rank n Bass cartoon. It's Hobbit retold in 70 minutes and while it may be just a cliff note version of the book, you still get to see all of its main points and moments.
Nope, there isn't a quicksave option. However, on PC saving is alsmost instant and loading doesn't take long at all either. Which also applys to Hardware of the time, since I never had those issues as a child playing it, and boy did I need to load a lot.
It bugs me that you complain about the dwarves not helping with the giant spiders. That is an integral thing in the plot, since is when Bilbo stop complaining he is not a hero and just do what he has to, and learn he can do anything he put effort on.
Only two exceptions I can think of: Disruptor, a doom clone on the PS1, and Star Fox Adventure on the Gamecube. Well okay, that wasn't really auto saving, just that you could save at any time. It still sets you back just a bit though.
I guess you could bypass the negative aspect of the game, the slow saving, nowadays by using save states on an emulator. I actually had this game and found it pretty fun but me and my sister got stuck at the section where you had to sneak past the three trolls.
7:40 That's not true. If you die in a stage without saving in that stage, it simply takes you to the beginning of the stage. You never go back to a stage you already finished, even if you die. Starting over a stage still sucks, but you still got this a bit wrong.
I got this game used back around 2005 and I noticed on the cover it advertised a "Free collectible The Hobbit trading card inside" but I never got it. I'm very Interested what someone had to say about this card. I've never seen it anywhere. If someone could fill me in that'd be awsome
Five years later, but there were actually a few different trading cards made. All the copies of the game that I've bought have had a Gollum trading card, but I know that a Gandalf trading card also existed. It appears that the cards were ever only packaged with the game itself, making them extremely rare. Possibly they intended to make a merchandise line with a bunch of card packs, but such a thing was never made.
Is it usual that your capture quality is really wonky? I don't mean to be rude man, because I loved the video, but the pixelated gameplay really made it hard to watch
That was my mistake. I played through the whole game before realizing I was recording in streaming quality... I wasn't going to play the whole damn game again it would've taken another week... so... that's not happening again in the future, promise.
If you had played literally any other port of this game (Xbox, GameCube, PC), saving your game would not have taken that long. The PS2 version of this game sucks. Not just in how long the saving and loading screens are, but also has constant framerate lag.
Wow! they really upped the quality in these later dreamgear games on the list!
Larry Bundy Jr uh larry I think you got the wrong video
Thanks for the constant awesomeness and laughs, happy Christmas.
WOW THAT SNAKE IMPRESSION IS SPOT ON

Wow, can you imagine if they shoehorned in a female elf for no reason into The Hobbit?
That would be stupid...
Gollum singing "Ring of Power" made me laugh out loud! Best part of the whole video!
All these fetch quests are giving me a Zelda vibe. I would have loved this back in the day it came out.

I want to actually play this now.
Ardhamon5000 i got it for 5 dollars so worth it

Wow, I love the Ring of Fire song Gollum sings. XD
Last Christmas, I gave you my heart. Love that song.
13:05 It does work in that stage. You're invisible to spiders. You just aren't invisible to zombies.

Who did the Snake voice? o.O it's spot on!

but even in the book they helped after they were free
1up Gamer From what i remember from the book, when they get free they are too disoriented to do anything.
I played this game on the XBox. The save points worked a lot faster on that console.
And then the disc melted because the Xbox's laser was too hot.
Nathan Is a Weasel The save points in loading screens work way faster on the game cube in my experience.
Merry Christmas Andrew, and a Happy New Year!
MERRY CHRISTMAS ANDY AND TAMBO!
Feels odd to see you complain about the savepoints, that just how games mostly were before the PS3 and 360 generation.
There just were no autosaves.
Only two exceptions I can think of: Disruptor, a doom clone on the PS1, and Star Fox Adventure on the Gamecube. Well okay, that wasn't really auto saving, just that you could save at any time. It still sets you back just a bit though.
Yeah but how many games took two minutes to save?
I really enjoyed this game! The saving must be an issue with the PS2, the Gamecube saved really fast.
is there any place I can download the theme song for electronic heroes?
well this is a thing
I really look forward to your videos, and man, this was great.
who made the voice of snake baggins?
Double like for that boss Wii hoodie, that's awesome
You forgot the most important dwarves, Torgo and Dropo XD. I think we can throw Ortega in for good measure.
Wow, I remember this game.
Merry Christmas, Andrew!
Oh, wait. Video games. Uh... Merry... Ice Cap Zone? Snowhead? Cool Cool Mountain?
I don't know, man. Just have a good one!
I guess you could bypass the negative aspect of the game, the slow saving, nowadays by using save states on an emulator.
I actually had this game and found it pretty fun but me and my sister got stuck at the section where you had to sneak past the three trolls.
Merry Christmas to you too :)
And have a happy new year
I dont get the Sting joke, yet it always makes me laugh... 😂
Holy shit, this intro is AMAZING!

Why would you jump there?! 6:26

Huh, the design for Bilbo isn't bad. It's very cute.
Notice that there is no cocoa in the cup.
I get this video is over 3 years old, but maybe try the gc, Xbox, or PC version. As those versions fix the slow saving.
i want a copy of that teen dwarf magazine
ah, I remember this game :)

That is one big mug,
i was hoping NOT to see chucky in one of your reviews
I feel ripped off that Martin Freeman never jumped 3 times his height in the movies. Did they even play the game those movies were based on?
I'll stick with the 6-hour movies thanks
I remembre the Xbox version being fine, difficult, but fine
I like The Hobbit

Op
Your talent as a voice actor is going to waste. Seriously, you could rival all the people I see performing for Twisted Toons.
I remember seeing this game out. It's even worse than I could possibly imagine.
Why was it so necessary to mispronounce all the names?
Because comedy.
To piss off all the Tolkien fans?
Copyrights maybe
The Metal Gear CODEC segment definitely had me smiling and giggling with glee~ :3
"Dorkin of Shield"
