    In the early 80's I owned both the L300 and 4333 at the same time. To me they both sound essentially the same. However, the 4333 had three advantages useful in the professional environment. 1) The woofer was quicker and easier to remove and replace for servicing due to the exterior mounting clamps. 2) You could bi-amp the speaker. 3) You could place the speaker horizontally sideways and re-position the tweeter and acoustic lens. In the end I sold the 4333 and kept the L300, which I still own to this day.

    JBL started making 4333A after they made the L300. L300 had better enclosure than the earlier 4333 which used 3/4" particle board in its enclosure, but the L300 used 1" particle board. The bass was more solid on the L300 and shortly after that, JBL announced the 4333A which used 1" particle board as well. Now 077 tweeter and 2405 is slightly different tweeter. I can't say one is better than the other, but I like the L300 and wish they will bring it back like they did with the L100 Classic.

    Having the tweeter to the side versus above in a vertical plane affects imaging.

    I have a set of 4333B JBL. I used to run them with an old Onkyo integrated amp. But then I came across a vintage crown DC 300A Series 2 amp and you would not believe the difference in the sound. I have two of those amps but have not bi-amped the speakers yet. I need to find an electronic crossover first. If they even make them anymore. The components in the JBL are the same that are in the big cabinets they used to use in live concerts in big arenas. And I'm sure they used Crown amps to power them also, so imagine how great they sound in my living room.

    • @theaterboyeBay
      @theaterboyeBay  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bet they sound great in your living room - many folks are using the Behringer crossovers for systems like yours - the only hassle is you have to use XLR to RCA adapters

    Looks simular to my Jensen Model 15 Studio Monitors, in size. But my Jensens have 5 drivers, a 15", 8" two tweeters and a 4" for frequencies above midrange but lower than tweeters. More for voice. I wish a in the same room comparison could be done. The Jensens were serious audio competitors at half the price

    In 1978 I purchased my 4333 speakers from a gentleman in the San Fernando valley that claimed to have been an assembly tech at JBL. He said they were allowed to make their own speakers (?) but the Cabinets were unfinished. My tweeters are mounted in the side like the 4333, but the components at the time matched up to the L300. Apparently these are now becoming quite scarce in this country?

    • @theaterboyeBay

      Vintage JBL speakers like yours are certainly scarce and are one of the few audio items you can own that will go up in value.

    In my opinion 16ohm components carry less current for the same efficiency and the overall current related flux modulation distortion is lower in the Studio Monitor series, therefore they sound cleaner and more civilized when compared to consumer grade speakers.

  • @madmad8582
    @madmad8582 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I have seen many pictures of Studio's very rarely do i see JBL's being used as Monitors , mostly they use small speakers just above a mixing board , those are better off in a theater or home setting , I prefer to use ElectroVoice .

    Well it looks better anyway. The L300 had the glass top panel right? Really didnt like that feature.
    Considering the prices asked now that can buy some pretty good new speakers like Klipsch do you think they are worth it?
    Anyway they’re all in Asia now so I won’t ever own a pair😳

    Better, or just more "industrial"? I miss stereo stores so much. Checking out new equipment at one of the dozen or so stereo stores in town (Pacific Stereo, Stereo West, Systems Wherehouse, Layfette Stereo, Alco TV & Stereo, Stereo Habitat, Cal Stereo, etc...) was a favorite hobby when i was a teen. Now we have nothing. 😞

      I think it may be down to the slightly different woofer that makes this speaker present sound with a warmer tone compared the L300

    L300 - аналог студийного JBL 4333. 4333 можно подключить одним проводом через внутренний фильтр или переключая специальным переключателем сзади, через внутренний фильтр для высоких и средних частот + внешний активный фильтр для низких частот, в данном случае биампинг. Динамики в обоих одинаковые, алнико, отличается только нумерация моделей в бытовых и студийных моделях. Есть еще версия 4333В, все идентично, только НЧ уже не альнико, а феррит. L300 был единственной отделкой, в то время как 4333 и 4333B выпускались в двух версиях - с синей передней частью и шпоном орехового дерева или более дешевой (пока что) серой окраской кузова и черной окраской передней части. Все остальные варианты - это уже импровизации, отклонения от оригинала и, как следствие, потеря ценности.

    I always preferred the sound of vintage British loudspeakers especially BBC designs. They didn't go as loud and sometimes lacked the dynamics of some of the big JBL and altecs . But they were cleaner and more refined with less grain. The result was lower listening fatigue. With most paper/pulp cones found in American speakers there was an added texture to the female voice where the British designs it was like polished glass. The first time I heard IMF TLS50 mk2 in an audio store they blew away everything else in the sound room. So clean and lifelike.

    JBL Pro Studio monitors are meant to be soffit mounted resulting in the entire wall and shape of the studio to form an infinite baffle-- thus the tendency for a 'clustered' driver array. The L300 was designed for the home-- thus the vertical inline driver array on a raised platform. In the home L300's perform better; that's what they were designed to do.

    @TMac473 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The 4333 brings the woofer up off of the floor. That makes a big difference. Look at every single monitor after l300 - Jbl learnt a lesson with that one.

      Would stands make a difference in the part of the discussion.? Raising the.woofer off the floor ? Or are you speaking of engineered woofer design within cabinet themselves ?

    • @weatheranddarkness
      @weatheranddarkness 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They’re made for being mounted to the walls of a studio control room so the bass driver’s distance from the base of the enclosure was never a factor with relation to the floor.

    I believe those speaker with 077 super tweeter and 12 to 15 inch anicoh magnet woofer are good. Most problem lies with the amp. If you amp cant produce good sound to supply speaker. All sound are bad even with good speaker. You are welcome to try my video at * Jolida 211 *

      kelvin ang Within the chain of sound reproduction, source (vinyl, CD, etc.), pre-amplification & processing, main amplification, transducers.........by several orders, it is the transducers that contribute the most artifacts...because the transducers have the hardest job of converting states of energies...electric signals to atmospheric pressure waves. These big efficient monitors could easily rock-the-house with something as mundane as a TDA2050.
