My father had a set of JBL L150 Speakers in our living room when I was just a kid, 1980 he purchased these for the new house in OC. None of the other parents in the neighborhood had speakers like that. They were bigger than I was and we didn't touch them. They were so loud we could never turn them up past 1. I suppose they were nicely constructed, they sounded good, and I was glad we had one of the best sound systems in OC back in that time, but I never understood this passion people have for sound. My dad had friends that would come over and go crazy for them. I wonder if there is something people hear in these that I can't hear for some reason. They could be dead quiet and very loud with zero background noise and I guess this was the only way to do this? I guess hooking these up to a CD play rather than a turn table is not what people want to do? No MP3 or IPOD? Your work on these speakers was amazing. I have to hand it to you that your work is incredible. My question is what's wrong with the speakers they have today? It turns out those speakers are worth alot of money now. I guess they are just that good, even today are these the pinnacle of sound even today? Nice work, I hope you enjoy your speakers. Thank you for posting the video.
Thank you very much for your feedback! Yes, they are appreciated in the modern world. Excellent sound, bass, recoil, medium and high. Good detail, etc. It's just that there are fans of vintage speakers. I have videos with JBL 4333, 4355, 4345 and L300, they are even bigger and even more expensive. And they are also appreciated and bought. It's just that they don't do it anymore, and if they do something of this level, the price there is very high. And vintage can be taken for a relatively good amount.
Gorgeous. JBL sure made some beautiful loudspeakers back in the day. I think the last series that I really was impressed with was the ti series, to 250ti in particular. Beautiful restoration and always nice to see a speaker of this quality brought back to life rather than pitched or being stripped for parts to sell online. I did a pair of KEF 104.2 a few years back but the cabinets weren't nearly so damaged.
Nice work if you were doing it for a customer. For myself and the purpose for the sound, the chipboard cabinet is not desired or recommended for building loudspeakers. For this reason for myself I would re-build the cabinet with MDF or Birch Ply to reduce cabinet resonance. Much more work but worth it at the end. As a note felt and or Bitumen pads lined inside is a much better product than fibreglass for the use of dampening. Of course if you are restoring to the original then you do what you do. regards.
Thanks. It was a restoration, so they were just restoring the buildings here. When we make new cases, we use plywood or MDF, we do not use chipboard. Cotton wool is quite a good material. Sometimes we use SHUMANET (it looks like glass wool, but not glass wool) Regarding your decision, see if we have such a thing on sale.
Well, in Russia among audiophiles, these are quite cult speakers. In terms of sound, they are good as well as 4355, 4345 ... well, and like the whole line 43. But, in my opinion, they are all very large.
@@morozworkshop sure, the same here in my country. What I meant was I would keep that speaker as original as possible. But you have done an amazing job. Congratulations
@@motorheadbanger7720 Thanks. I hope to make a video with Yamaha NS-1000M soon. If they get to me, of course. I ordered from Japan, for a month in the port in the warehouse, I'm waiting.
If you're talking about chipped and knocked-down corners, then I seal them up in different ways. I can use epoxy or automotive putty. If it is the restoration of the veneer, then there are also two options. The first is veneer gluing, and the second is epoxy with veneer dust. In this case, I added American walnut dust to the epoxy. Well, there is also an option of just puttingty on wood.

Beautiful restoration!!👌 These...in my opinion, were the finest home speakers that JBL ever produced, back in the day!

Thanks. I didn't like the JBL L300 at all before. But over time, I began to like their shape, the faceplate at an angle and the horizontal veneer.
Beautiful! They look brand new!
Thank you!
