Because of Covid death was a very real possibility, so I started online therapy & made an effort to have more meaningful conversations with my family. A useful tip for talking with Asian dads is to reminisce about your favorite things you did together. It's easier than discussing emotions in the abstract. I also got to share with him some regrets where I felt I let him down as a son. Just remember to manage your expectations in terms of how expressive someone from an older generation & culture can be. My father wasn't ill, I just did this bc of Covid, but it was so helpful bc he died suddenly without any warning at 81. I'm glad he had a long life, didn't suffer & we got to share our memories together before he passed. It's never easy dealing with death, but it's helpful when you aren't left with regrets 🙏
