    The Douk-Douk is one of my favorites for its slimness and strong backspring! I also really love the Opinel 8 and especially the 6, which is just phenomenal. Sooooo slicey!

      Oh yes! No.06 is my absolute favourite edc blade. Cuts like a demon and disappears in the pocket. A lightsaber it is, uhm.
      Have a slightly moddified No.08 (carbon steel+walnut handle) too, but nah.

    Have one at work, have had it for thirty years, open boxes, cut plastic straps, had a stainless n°7 gifted to me by a french cookbook writer but lost it...
    The tip broke fifteen years ago.
    Have a number ten, good for food prep etc, good alternative for use in the woods as food knife.

    Most of the knife "reviews" I see on TH-cam these days are just sales pitches. Your videos are honest, refreshing, and entertaining. Hell, I didn't give a shit what you thought about an Opinel, but I still watched this video. Very well done. Your work is appreciated.

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use these videos as an excuse to talk about other things, make jokes, and poke fun about the stuff we're interested in. But I also try to include enough info in the reviews that a person can make an educated guess about ergonomics, aesthetics, use and quality and if it works for them.

  • @FancyPrimate

    My no.7 and no.9 are two of my favorites and most complimented knives. They make excellent dinner knives because restaurant cutlery is typically shit. The Boker arbolito belt sheath fits the 7 well and I believe I can squeeze the 8 in. I'm sure if you sand down and reshape/slim the handle on 8 it would fit nicely.

    You should have no trouble building a shelter with an Opinel, I did it. The tip is more likely to snap off than bend. The Douk Douk has pretty soft steel, the Opinel is a much better knife.

    • @w.callens1629
      @w.callens1629 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      thats how my Opinel looks like. it was enclosed in a package of Fein blades for multitool. cause thats what you really need when you need a knife. anyway the handle was painted Orange. After a while in my toolbox it looked like trump: a faded Orange pointless tool , only difference, the Opinel was still sharp.

      You laugh, but Opinel actually makes a version with a foot-long blade.
      It's literally a folding "pocket sword". The locking ring makes it decently strong. Skallagrim did a review of it cutting tatami mats and stuff. It's comically humongous, but still cuts like a laser. th-cam.com/video/xLkd61qew5g/w-d-xo.html

    Every home should have an Opinel. Most people use their Opinel to eat on the go, do light wood work, etc. It's way enough for most daily cutting tasks. The thin blade makes it a great slicer. Definitely get a number 8 if you don't already own one 👍

    Revisiting my favourite 'toobers' Opinel reviews. My current collection of Opinels consist of a No7, three 8s (one is the 'Black' version), a 9 (I think), a couple of 10s, and my favourite fun knife, a No 13. I just had to buy the 13 because it makes me smile whenever I look at it.

    I have one of these in carbon steel. Bought last year in Chatellerault, France. Wickedly sharp as bought, very nice slicer. The carbon steel does mark tremendously quickly, so take the sandvik if you prefer your knife in "silver" colour. The carbon model quickly sharpens on a regular kitchen steel though. I expect the stainless would also, but have but tried.

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I heard the stainless sharpens easy and has a similar performance. That’s what I get from reading stuff on web forums.

    Great review. I have had these all my life. I view them as a "look cool eating cheese at an art show or picnic knife with a sweet lady". They are a classic, and will always love them. I would never want to fight with one, but one looks real cool pulling one out for a social event to eat fine cheese. Opinel are classy. I think i will go buy one from your link right now. There are many art shows and picnics in my near future. Plus, I just subscribed due to the fun nature of your productions. Thumbs up.

      Advanced Knife Bro cutting oranges and grapefruit will give a nice patina in short order. Just wipe the blade off and let nature take its course. I used a cold blue gun touch up pen on my No.8. Gave a rich black color, although a little streaky. Not food friendly. Needs to be oiled afterwards. Dipping it in a bottle of cold bluing should give a nice effect.

    I would've been really impressed if you got Jean-Luc Picard to direct your film. I just got the number 9 this week so your review was timely. I got it just to add to the collection, not for any real use. If you haven't, take a look at Antonini Pattada knives from Italy. They look very interesting.

      I was going to get one... since they are similar- but I have a MAM, a Case Sodbuster, and a Svord on the way. I plan on getting one in the future, but I’ve blown my budget on cheap stuff for the month.

    Quality cinematic level production with a side order of knife review. I’m thinking you’ve already outgrown the standard TH-cam knife review niche. 🤔

    Great review dude! Good to see the classics in with the campground commando knives. Maybe one day I can be a tactical forest ninja! You ever use svord peasants? I haven't tried them yet but they look like they'd be fun like the opinel.

    Excuse me, I take my knife reviews akin to Seven Samurai, 3 hours long, and complete masterpieces! You missed your chance with the Higo no Kami, but I'm sure that making a three-hour video for that would have been torturous. Great job as always, and way to make use of that film (?) degree!

    Eating an apple with a knife like that reminds me of that evil hobo in "Dennis the menace". Please watch that scene and recreate it in a future knifereview :D On the review itself, i liked it! I`ve always considered Opinel to be knives carried exclusively by extremely old people, but after watching this video i might have to get one for myself, (a knife, not an old person). Keep up the good work!:)
