When Cristiano Ronaldo Was Known As CR9

  • In his younger days for Manchester United, Cristiano Ronaldo was one of the most lethal wingers the game has ever seen. Because when you think of Ronaldo and his dribbling at its absolute peak - many will think of the way he danced and showed that insane flair, ripping throughout the premier league.
But we all know, that as Ronaldo moved to Real Madrid and matured through his career, he switched his game style completely to that of an absolutely lethal goalscorer and finisher.
You can debate which Cristiano Ronaldo was really the better version of him - but I personally believe what was truly the best combination of both a Manchester United and Real Madrid Cristiano Ronaldo was no other than the single year throughout the 2009-2010 season in which CR7 was known as CR9.

He Stopped Barca From winning the treble, Won a Golden Boot,Laliga,Copa del Rey, lost Back to Back UCL semis, Scoring 60+ Goals back to back, That Version of Cristiano was underrated it just that Messi Overshadowed him in that Period

Ronaldo in his first 5 years(2009-2014) at Madrid was his all round peak. He went from a winger to an inside forward and he became the first man to score 40 La Liga goals in a single season and the first to score back to back 40+ goals in La Liga. He won 2 Copa Del Reys, La Liga and the Champions League between his all round game peak. Since post Brazil World Cup, ever since his injury he lost his explosiveness, speed and his trademark dribbling to evolve his game to be more efficient in his goal scoring. That was his start of his goal scoring peak. He has the best goal per game ratio in La Liga, becomes the all time Real Madrid leading scorer and has over a goal per game ratio(450 goals in 438 games). Also added one more La Liga title and 3 more Champions League titles including completing the 3 peat in the Champions League. Wether you like him or not, you can't deny his greatness he brought to Real Madrid since joined in 2009.

He was already a world class attacking threat before Real Mardid.
2 years prior, he broke the record for most goals in a Prem League season as a winger. Something like that was literally unheard of...
It's just that the overall level of competition in La Liga was easier and he was on one of the two top teams who were head and shoulders above the rest of the league, so naturally he just shone even brighter that he did in the Prem.
He was also an old fashioned winger for the majority of his first spell at United, so goalscoring opportunities would come few and far between.
Most of his time was spent concentrated going down the wing and putting crosses into the box for the forwards.
Look at match compilations up until the 07-08 year and its literally all Fergie had him doing. Even had him taking corners for the longest time 😂 Proper old school winger...
Once Alex Ferguson started dabbling with a modern formation and experimenting with him as forward winger - which is all you see in today's game, but back then it was the start of the "modern winger" era - then it became a wrap.
Goals went up, assists went up, overall efficiency went into overdrive.
I'd bet everything that he'd be right around the corner of 1k career goals right now had he played in La Liga from an earlier age.
Fun fact: He could have actually ended up in Barca instead of Man U in 03, but Barca ended up going w Quaresma instead because he was a little older and was the top young talent coming out of Portugal at the time. *Pain!!!*
In an alternate universe, Ronaldo went to Barca and played the majority of his career alongside Messi. I guess the footballing Gods didn't allow for it, would have literally broke football...

A versatile attacker, Cristiano Ronaldo is capable of playing on either wing as well as through the centre of the pitch, and, while ostensibly right-footed, is very strong with both feet.
While at Sporting and during his first season at Manchester United, he was typically deployed as a traditional winger on the right side of midfield, where he regularly looked to deliver crosses into the penalty area.
In his final seasons at United, Ronaldo played an even more attacking and central role, functioning both as a striker and as a supporting forward, or even as an attacking midfielder on occasion.
At Real Madrid, Ronaldo continued to play a more offensive role, while his creative and defensive duties became more limited, although not entirely diminished.
