I dont think the problem is female characters in army-themed video games, it is more about the inability of modern shooters to create an immersive experience that really portrays the horrors of modern combat. especially look at cod, the game is a fucking joke now with all the weird skins, camos etc. - cod4, bc2, bf3 used to be so dark and immersive, while also fun to play and not completely soft-washed in order to appeal to mass audiences . that is the kind of thing i miss that made those older games feel "masculine" in a way. the problem is not that the games allow you to play female characters, the problem is shooters nowadays are in fact being catered to children (most vulnerable target group to spend loads of money on micro-transactions) and thats what de-masculinizes todays games
