😀 I just completed my supervision hours this week 40-group/60-Individual (HI), need to have my supervisor get a document notarized and then submit docs with fees to the DCCA and wait about a month before I get the green light to schedule my LCSW exam. Super excited and using the Therapist Development Center to help prepare for the exam plus working from the 3-book Social Work Test Prep with 170 test questions in each book with rational in the back for correct and incorrect answers. Good luck on your journey.
this is awesome!! congratulations :D GA requires 120 supervision hours - 60 of which can be group so I am not quite there yet but hopefully will be in about a year and a half. I've heard great things about the therapist development center for test prep!
Your channel has been such a huge support through my MSW journey. Do you have to take part in any therapeutic practices being a medical social worker? And how often do you refer back to the DSM-5 ?

I don't do official clinical mental health counseling in this role -- but I do provide emotional support consistently throughout the day. I use a lot of the same skills that I used when I was doing official counseling sessions in my old job, but without diagnosing or following a true therapeutic structure of things. I haven't referenced back the DSM-5 in this role yet lol. It's not therapy, but it is using my therapeutic training to sit with people in some of the worst times of their life. Kinda hard to word the answer to that question, but does that help bring clarity?

What advice do you have for a bsw student? I start my practicum this fall and I’m hoping I can get on at this nursing home in my town. The director of nursing said that they do have a social worker on site. I’m just waiting on my field director to get back to me. I definitely want to work with elderly and disabled people. I’ve also been torn in either waiting a year or going to get my masters right after I graduate.
Hi Anna, I will be graduating from MSW program in Texas this May. I plan on getting my license in Texas, but I do plan on moving to another state (Nebraska) in the near future. Would I have to retake the license exam in Nebraska, or will it roll over? How does license work between different states?
Once you take the ASWB exam, you can apply with that score to other states! so you shouldn't have to sit and retake the exam. Some states have "license reciprocation" where if you have a masters-level social work license in one state, you can kind of short cut the license application process in your new state. but some states don't have reciprocity and require you to do the whole application process when you move (aka send them your official transcripts, official ASWB score, etc)

You have to really enjoy female dominated work environments because very few men can be bothered to choose the field of social work - the ratio is 85% female-15% male. Nobody *EVER* talks about that.

So here in Africa social work is viewed as the weird career. It’s viewed as a volunteer work, can you define social work and give the role and importance of social worker in the society. Am in college right now doing social work but the negative talks about social work discourages me.

it's not off the table for me but I don't have any immediate plans for it! I think if I do pursue a doctorate, it will be because I'm hoping to move more into a teaching or administrative role. likely in the future but in the far future!
