I'm from the southwest US and we love love LOVE blue corn. I recommend grinding the blue corn into a flour for corn bread or for chips & guac. It's also delicious as a base for waffles 😍
Gaz, dry the blue corn and grind it into cornmeal and flour. Here in the US we have blue corn chips I like to eat with pico or guacamole. I also make blue corn pancakes which are so delicious with cinnamon sautéed apple slices with a little maple syrup. I also like to grow an unusual new to me seed every year. It’s fun!
I grew loofa last year for the first time ever last year ( in wales) it was an amazing success. I actually don't mind washing up now ,knowing that I grew my pan scour.
Watching you and your Mom together sowing seeds is so heartwarming, and bring loads of memories back. I miss my Mom very much. Thank you for the great content. Stay safe. 🙏🤗
I love your videos, but this one made me particularly happy! I live around Mansfield, MO and just visited Baker Creek farm. Such a wonderful place and even better seeds!
Most of my family are left handed - except me! I'm not quite ambidextrous, but I can and do use my left hand more than most people. My dad is the same (except he's left handed). My sister is totally left handed. Funny old world...
I recently uploaded a video talking about the waste involved in the horticultural industry. It's been responsible for some horrendous amounts of single use plastics over the years, and still is. Just look at the compost bags we use. I enjoyed this episode and look forward to the follow ups of the harvesting.
Your mom and you make such a lovely team together in the garden. Love all the knowledge that you are passing on to us so we may one day grow our own food. My family and I are about to move up to the mountains to become self sustainable too. Thanks for all the inspiration ❤🌼🌺🙏🫶☀️
I’ve been following for years for various reasons…but now it’s primarily for gardening and seasonal eating from the garden! I’m an urban gardener in the US (southern California). Cheers to a new garden season!
So lovely to see you & your mom in this delightful video. I'm looking forward to seeing your crops grow & most especially to see the tasty dishes you will create with them. Love & blessings to you & your lovely family & to all. Liliane ( I am a Canadian expat living in California )
I love the videos about your gardens! And I love when you make things directly from your gardens. Great job I have been a subscriber since channel began and I have really appreciated everything you have done But now that you've added gardening which is my favorite thing I love your channel that much more
I enjoy the garden videos, they are so peaceful, it’s also nice to see your chickens doing so well. With the corn they can get silk worms that eat the tops, so you have to watch out for that. I really enjoy hearing the stories behind the seeds though, that’s great. You and your mom are wonderful with this, she is so sweet with you and it’s nice when you have your family in the videos. I’m excited to see the recipes to come from these seeds.
I just want to hang out with you and your mum. Gaz, you have the most beautiful videos! I have some of those first beans; some call them Orca beans here... though maybe your variety is a bit more purple? 💙🖤🤍 Beans where I am on Vancouver Island are hit or miss. A great friend of mine had some success with loofa in her greenhouse - in Newfoundland! I imagine our coastal weather isn't much different from Wales. Best of luck and much love from Canada 💚 💕
Oh how sweet that you're out there gardening with your mom, it reminds me of when I was a kid and my grandparents and I would do that together ❤. Thank you for sharing your wisdom, positivity and zest for life and cooking. Hugs to both of you from WV-the wild and beautiful state 💖💖💖
So much fun to watch you and your Sweet Mom!!! I LOVE everything you're planting and can't wait to see how everything grows!!! On a side note, you said "Sowing" a few times and I had to go and look up the video for "Sowing the Seeds of Love" by Tears For Fears and sing along!! So Thank you!!! xo
I love all the fun seeds you’ve gone with this year! They’ll look wonderful in the cooking videos to come. Also, your mom is lovely, glad she was able/willing to be in the video
So lovely and happy video 🥰 Thank you and your mom ❤ It is still too cold to plant anything outside here, but it’s nice to watch your inspiring videos while waiting ☀️
Hopi Blue corn sustained the hopi people for thousands of years. It is used ceremonial and to make piki bread. Now adays people use blue corn to make porridge, pancakes, tortillas and tortilla chips. You have to process the kernels 1st with a protocol called "nixtamalization".
Nice to see your mom. Those are beautiful beans! Look like spotted cows. You should try the Trombocina squash. It's about 3 feet long and very fun to grow. I'm growing loofa now. It's my Single Seed Challenge 2024.
At 4:36 you didn’t put the “how to grow beetroot” video link that you said… Loved the video as usual! The weird seeds, the turquoise corn 🌽 😮, your mom, the end 😂.. 🌿🌱🐛🌳🥬
Love the gardening videos! I think you would love growing daikon...they are super easy to grow and super delicious raw, boiled, or fermented/quick kimchi
Do you have problems with leaf miner in your beet greens, spinach or chard? If so do you have any tips to control them? I have them and use the sticky traps but I still have to go out and smash any eggs on the leaves and it is quite frustrating. I am in Oregon in the US. Thanks for any information you might have. Really looking forward to your crop this year!
Isn't that Llanover pea the type they used to use for mushy peas before the Marrowfat took over? My great aunt in Shropshire used to grow them when I was a kid many many years ago. We always cooked the dried peas first soaked in baking soda.
Blue corn tortilla chips have become popularized during the past several years, bringing wider awareness to heirloom corn varieties. Yellow crookneck is still a standard summer squash variety in the American south. I actually never saw a straightneck yellow squash until I was a teenager because no one was growing them in the rural area where I'm from. I prefer straightneck for ease of slicing, but they're otherwise the same. If you pick them when they're young and tender, they're delicious raw and will almost melt in your mouth. It's more common for people to let them grow more and then cook them because I guess the idea to eat them raw doesn't come to mind. As long as they don't grow to the point of becoming tough, they're good.
I’ve planted so many seeds over the past two weeks and they’re looking good so far 🙏 Gaz, I’ve got a small old greenhouse and in need of something bigger. I noticed your gorgeous polytunnel. Where did you get it from? 💚🏴
You should experiment with electroculture which is a simple copper wire that is planted into the soil. This copper wire acts like an antenna to collect atmospheric energy and direct it down into the soil resulting in a better yield and healthier plants - then let us know how/if it works for you!!
Love your mum, she needs to be on the channel more. I feel she is full of wisdom.

Who doesn't love left-handers! They are so creative people and excellent artistically.
Most of my family are left handed - except me! I'm not quite ambidextrous, but I can and do use my left hand more than most people. My dad is the same (except he's left handed). My sister is totally left handed. Funny old world...

You and your mama are so sweet, love this. Makes me feel like I’m with my mama, she corrects me all the time 😂

In some places it's common to plant luffa and use it as a body sponge. It is also possible to use it to do the dishes.

Gaz, in keeping with traditional old seeds maybe try some Mangel Wurzels, the leaves and roots can be eaten, they're quite delicious 🍃
Hi Gaz where do you buy your seeds?

I love Baker Creek Seeds. They are in the state next to me. Their seeds always do well for me. Love this video!

I am going to try okra this year. Nice video by two very nice people.
Could I ask please do you get your Baker Creek seeds here in the UK? I am having trouble finding them.
I want more of these!!
I’ve planted so many seeds over the past two weeks and they’re looking good so far 🙏 Gaz, I’ve got a small old greenhouse and in need of something bigger. I noticed your gorgeous polytunnel. Where did you get it from? 💚🏴

I am so inspired, Gaz. Where are you procuring your seeds?
Baker Creek seeds, the only company I buy seeds from. Huge variety of strange seeds from all over the world. Beautiful catalog.
Lovely family! Do you eat your eggs? Vegan aspirations here; However, have chickens and allow myself to consume eggs.
with so many heirloom varieties will you be saving thier seeds for planting next year
