I went here last year in May and we had zero seaweed and sargassum until the end of our 10 day trip, last day in a half it started coming in. it was great for a first time resort goer and first time in Mexico like myself. I had the nicest beach out of all the other nearby sister resorts as well. Highly recommend and will move going back someday in sure. Great video capturing those wonderful views!
Thanks a lot for sharing this video, we're actually going to stay here in a few weeks and this is a very good preview of the resort which gives us a clear idea of what to expect, looks just great!
Thanks for the video👍 It’s a nice hotel complex, beach and snorkelling is great for turtles and fish and far better than GBP but food not as good. That pier has massive shoals of fish under the end. 🐡🐠🐟
It is nice indeed. It’s a matter of personal preference, but all around I prefer Bahia. The 4 sections that make up the Grand (Beach, Caribe, Colonial and Tropical) pretty much feel like one humongous resort. A nice one, but homogeneous. The upside of that is, if you want a smaller resort experience then you can just stay at your home resort. A few things clearly better at Barcelo; desserts and booze selection.
Good Morning. The Bahia Principe Riviera Maya complex of 4 resorts is about 10 miles south of the Barcelo complex of 6 resorts. But Barcelo is really just 3 resorts; The Palace, the adults only Riviera and the 4 sections that make up the Grand (Beach, Caribe, Colonial & Tropical). These 4 are all pretty much the same. The Bahia’s 4 resorts are different from one another with clear “Levels” of price & feel at each. Barcelo’s business model is more geared to “up sell” you to premium services than making each resort its own experience. I prefer the overall complex at Bahia for this reason. I’m a very experienced budget-friendly all-inclusive traveler and I’ve taken my kids and recently my grandkids. With 3 preteens you do have to pay attention to your budget. Value for you money will help you enjoy the trip and your kids will enjoy either complex equally with plenty of other preteens at both. If in your budget then Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal is the best option. Kids can freely go to all 3 family resorts (Sian Kaan is adults only) and everything for them is just a bit better than the Barcelo Grand’s 4 parts. But if there is a substantial cost savings by staying at Barcelo Grand then don’t hesitate because you’ll be happier. Do not fall into their premium up sell trap, it’s just not worth it. I hope this helps, Jeff (Papaw)
Ugh! Just 3 nights? Well, thats better than none I guess. With just 3 days your priorities should be; near the airport, on a nice, great pools and easy access to food. When I was at Barcelo a few weeks ago I took the colectivo to Bahia Principe Grand Coba to record an updated Walkaround and a 2nd project titled "Bahia Principe Grand Coba, Is It Still The Best?" This will be a discussion on whether or not it remains the best budget friendly full service all-inclusive served by Cancun Airport. These are coming in a few more weeks. Barcelo Grand certainly tics your boxes and kids will love it. Be sure to also price out the RIU resorts in the Playacar development adjacent to Playa del Carmen. Also the Iberostar Paraiso Del Mar and Beach.
Thanks for the video. I've been there in 2016, was really nice. Right now I'm between Grand Palladium and Barcelo Colonial... How was the room, the food and how many a la cartas?
While perfectly adequate for the price I paid, the 4 sections that make up the "Grand" at Barcelo Maya are a notch below both Grand Palladium and Bahia Principe. Jeff (Papaw)

Hello Leticia, I live a short distance from the resort & will try to answer your question. This region of Mexico has a "rainy season" from late May to late October. It coincides with hurricane season. Tropical storms & rain are common during this period. Usually, they'll last a short while & be mostly sunny the rest of the day. I'm not saying this happens every day during the week. But rain is common..."weekly". The big issue now...and may dilute your enjoyment...is sargassum. It commonly arrives to the beaches of The Caribbean from June to September. This year, it began arriving in late February. Worse yet, it's now arriving in EXTREME MASSES; more-so than is historically "normal". It's ALWAYS a Summer issue here...BUT...this year it's HORRIBLE. I know Barcelo Resort well & since the early 80s, I've stayed there often. Like most resorts here, Barcelo does its' best to keep their beachfront clean. However this year, the entire Caribbean Sea Region is overwhelmed by the massive amount of sargassum. If it's left to lay on the beaches, it rots & STINKS. On days when the beach & seafront is inundated with sargassum, I'd opt for the pool. Barcelo Resort has the largest & most beautiful swimming pools on Rivera Maya. I hope my commentary reply has been helpful. I'll happily answer any other questions you may have. Best regards, Ben

One of the best videos I have seen for the colonial !
Thank you for watching!
My style is to just show the property. I’m not very attractive or interesting.
Thank you so much! This video was so beautiful and included so much. We are heading there soon so This was exciting to watch!
While all 4 sections of the Barcelo Grand are nice, I preferred Colonial over the others. More relaxed and felt a touch more.

Can you say which beach out all was the best for swimming?
I would say the water directly behind the Beach section is better for swimming.
Awesome video! I loke how vibrant everything is. Also did i miss the giveaway?
I’ll be shooting the drawing in a few days. I’ve been at doctor appts. Knee replacement in my near future.

Is there a nightclub inside the resort ?
There is - "Jaguar's". It was closed when I was there, dont know if it has opened back up yet.
