- This cat was urgently seeking warmer accommodations on a particularly frigid day. Neighbors hadn't seen her around before, and she didn't have the warmer winter coat that ferals typically grow this time of year. We named her Snowday. Because of your kindness and generosity, she's now relaxing safely indoors with a loving foster. Thank you.
He definitely had a home once. He is well groomed and sociable. Hopefully he wasn’t homeless for long.

I agree, that the cat "had" a home when he was a small kitten. Even though he is still a kitten (he's not more than 6 or 7 mths old) he is no longer tiny & cute, meaning the novelty of cuteness wore off & no one wanted to clean the litter box. So out the door he goes. This happens more often than you really want to know. This cat is definitely homeless & very hungry. This person is the first one that payed attention to this cat. The cat is begging for help. As a full blown "Cat Lady" who has rescued for over 40 yrs, I am extremely familiar with this type of behavior. The "stray" cat & kitten overpopulation is terribly out of control. The amount of suffering is beyond cruelty. EVERYONE PLEASE SPAY YOUR FEMALE CATS & NEUTER YOUR MALES... HELP STOP THE SUFFERING!!!
Casually walked by with a "hello, good day" and then stuck around after being greeted back. So polite!

Probably because it's someone's pet indoor/outdoor cat that they stole. It's not even the first time a well groomed, friendly, average weight looking cat they've picked up like this. I assume this organization just thinks it's cool to kidnap someones pet if it's outside.

This is what I always imagine happens to the strays that dissappear. I had a friendly stray kitty go missing recently so hopefully someone took her home

We have multiple neighbors who feed our “stray” cat. They are stunned to discover she is ours. We cannot keep her inside because she slips out under our dog.
Same. We had one, he was just a boy. We called him "Freddie G", aka Freddie Gray. He was all gray with a pinch of white on his chest. He had been in the neighborhood for a while and he would come over and eat, and then leave back out. I called the non-kill shelter near us that takes homeless cat and dogs, and left them a message requesting to pick him up, but they never returned my call. A couple of weeks later, he was gone. It was bittersweet. We were sad and still miss him, but we are happy that someone was able to care for him.

I used to do cat rescue in Brooklyn. It was heartbreaking to see them fighting over a piece of chicken from the garbage and getting abused by cruel people. I fed them and they always greeted me when I came home from work. I had them all fixed too. Please be kind to street cats. They have nowhere to go when it’s cold 🙏🏻

They do indeed. Territorial disputes, extreme temps, parasites, vehicle traffic……cat haters…. I found a 6 week old kitten hiding in my garden. He’s been with me ten years now and I’m glad to have him. Another, a young feral female with two litters in under a year started hanging around. She finally trusted me enough, so I got her fixed and checked but before I could domesticate her she was killed by a car. It’s sad to see them out in the streets, emaciated, infested with fleas and full of parasites.

I had the same situation. I met a young stray cat and, as a kid, me and my Turkish family took care of her. We fed her food, we gave her shelter, and she was happy. That stray cat became mine and my family's cat

Another possibility is that it was abandoned. There are strays in my neighborhood that have always relied on the kindness of strangers for food. I know myself and a few other homes have been feeding them regularly. I think for that reason they’re affectionate towards people bc these little kitties come running for pets and nibbles. So while it’s common for strays to scatter from us there are some with enough regular exposure and acts of kindness that they become affectionate.
It’s actually kind of troubling bc there are people that cannot be trusted and would harm them if they get close. It breaks my heart.
And yet, he's starving, and out in bad weather.

A cat like that came up to us really wanting attention. Turns out he had been missing for 2 months and we were able to return him to his owner because he was chipped. A very teary reunion for sure!

@@milamorales925 now it’s 4 in the house, and 5 in the garage. The youngest of the garage crew, Honey , was getting bullied by other random cats. The rest of the garage crew would try to protect her but they couldn’t be by her side 24/7. She’s healed up now but some other asshole unfixed male bit threw her foot so she’s an inside cat now. She’s so happy. The rest of the house crew not so much but Honey grew on them quick. It’s like Honey is a mentally challenged cat. The garage crew didn’t want her there either at first but they knew she was different in some sense. They made an exception for her. She’s super doofy, super sweet. I was happy with 6 in the garage 3 in the house but it is what it is. Honey is 100x safer and everybody already inside is managing.

I have watched this cat man and a few of his cat buddies from Flatbush helping cats get off the streets, especially curbing them from having kitties. I apologize for forgetting his name, but he and his crew are the real McCoy helping cat problems in the streets of New York, I think, especially in Flatbush Brooklyn, New York. Kudos to you guys!

Awesome,I always feed them and try to get them out of the cold and into a rescue shelter.i hate seeing them out there with nowhere to go for food or nowhere to go to get a warm comfy bed to sleep in, all they want is someone to love them and give them love in return
It’s a bit costly but if you have the room and money, you could have an all time accessible shed (think stable doors with the bottom removed) in which you have bedding and access to food/water (always ensure they can get in and out whenever they desire.) Alternatively, placing cat boxes with blankets is also helpful if you’re looking to give them temporary shelter. This middle man can help during transitions of bonding stages. Also serves as a sort of “waiting room” for rescues. Even some owned cats may occasionally use it if needed. Though animals like foxes and raccoons may as well (still lovely and in need of winter support but definitely best to separate!)

if you let your cat outside unmicrochipped it's going to get picked up by someone and taken to a shelter. That's just how it is.
He doesn’t say anything about checking for a chip or advertising a lost cat.Hopefully he did, but it’s concerning that he doesn’t mention it. Sometimes a house cat gets out by accident. Or some cats (especially depending on their past) are unhappy if they can’t roam for a bit and come back inside. The cat looks healthy, clean and well-fed, which suggests a current owner

Someone tried to ‘rescue’ my cat like this and I was lucky to get him back. A friendly cat is not necessarily a distressed one!
True , that’s why I only “borrow” cats :). I had glass doors looking out to a back deck and if a friendly fur face appeared during my insomnia hours , I would let it in and allow it sleep over, then guest kitty would go back outside when I went to work in the morning.
I felt it was my duty to protect a probably much loved neighbor cat from the nighttime prowlers (which included coyotes).
I only knew it was not a neighbor cat if I came home and kitty was still on my porch , waiting for me to come back ! Ha! That only happened once …after a week, I thought I might be a new cat owner. But it had simply been abandoned by people down the street who had moved away (grrr), and the new owners came in about a week later and decided to keep their furry inhabitant . Finally a happy ending to one of those stories 😻

I genuinely believed this to be a girl, and possibly one in heat. This kitty acts just like mine did when I rescued her. She kept coming around on my back porch, but once we saw her in heat, and the Tom cats following, we brought her in. I just couldn't see her being another statistic, out on the streets, having litter after litter, searching for food and shelter, and adding to the chance she and any future babies could be put down. Just from her hanging out at dinner time, I loved her, and wanted better for her. I'm so grateful to this man for saving the kitty, lol whether it's a boy or girl. I could be wrong. I'm happy regardless. The kitty was so hungry, but so sweet at the same time. I loved hearing the kitty purring in contentment.

Snowday was SO eager to be rescued, thank you for being there for her and so many others. I am from MN and it just pains me to see animals out in the cold,. I have a couple of heated cat houses on my front porch for ferals but even that is not the kind of comfort every cat needs and deserves. It is so wonderful to know that this cat is one of the lucky ones to be rescued by Flatbush.
I'm also in Minnesota and last year my roommate built a little cat house for the neighborhood cats. This year we've also been setting out kibble and she even got a heated water dish.
Such a little beauty, and so, so sweet!

Someone like this person stole my cat for over two months, and I had to pay a lot of money to get him out of the pound when he finally escaped them. This cat is well-fed and friendly. No doubt it belongs to someone and this person is literally stealing their cat. SHAME on you who support this!

I was able to catch a shy but friendly cat this winter. It was a bitterly cold day, and he let me catch him! I put him in the shower (with a little bed, etc) because none of my rescue "owned" cats were having IT. 😂 He was a precious, gentle soul. I took him to "the kc pet project." He was neutered and adopted within a week! Praise the Lord!
