    While not exactly pissed off, Jim Cornette implored Mick Foley to never take another bump like the one against the Taker at Hell in a Cell. And Nash was certainly correct that the bump basically ruined other bumps forever.

    • @theswitchblade2683
      @theswitchblade2683 3 ปีที่แล้ว +38

      @Bro Dawg but because of mick Foley, the bumps have got bigger and more dangerous just to get that kind of reaction again...

    • @cypher515
      @cypher515 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      I always hate to say these words. But "Jim Cornette is right." A move is nothing if you don't sell it. One of my big issues when I watched AEW in the beginning (I think it was a Young Bucks match) was the progression of impact move to impact move without any time taken to sell the moves. And you can make an argument that Foley started it with taking a move worse than any ever given to anyone in the continental United States of America**... and continuing the match. Then _accidentally_ taking a worse one that didn't look as strong to the naked eye, but was still obviously bad... and continuing the match. Then getting put away with two moves that definitely didn't match up to those two... then coming back out for the Main Event. It could've killed any and all injury storylines for all time, having someone that REALLY injured keep going... though they did manage to mainly get Mick over as the legitimate toughest man in all of wrestling instead.
      ** Okay, I just thought of some scaffold matches, especially in the extreme places in the country, which could get away with being called more extreme than the Cell table bump. They weren't exactly well known to the mainstream though.

    • @christophermichael6844
      @christophermichael6844 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @Bro Dawg Reading comprehension is a problem for you, apparently.
      It became a stunt show instead of a performance:
      It ruined bumps because they had to keep being bigger and more dangerous.

    I love the acrobatics and high flyers they're my favorite stars, heck the X-Division is the main reason I like IMPACT so much which is basically a high flyers division for anyone whether their 250 pounds or heavier, if they can fly or move at that level and that's what I love about it. However I agree with JR, I don't think the high flying moves are the issue in itself, it's how they're performed, they just wait their for the guy to dive, I get protecting the guy whose throwing caution to the wind, but most of the time when a bunch of people are outside together, they all just stand their together, there's gotta be a better way to protect them while at the same time making it look like they were caught by surprise. It only happens when one or two guys are outside, when it's just one guy outside, it looks fine in my opinion.

    Ive heard different versions of why cena told reks to not use the burning hammer anymore. Reks' version is that cena felt threatened by any finished similar to his. Cena's version is that Reks botched it badly during a house show.
    I also believe it has something to do with the fact that burning hammer is an incredibly protected move in japan, and they didnt want some low/mid card wrestler with an uncertain future with the company using it.
    Should be noted that Reks' version had a slight DDT variation to it, which made it look more like an F5 than the AA. Not too long after this went down, Brock Lesnar made his wwe return at the raw after wrestlemania to start a program with cena. It wouldnt surprise me if at this time Cena already knew brock would be back soon, even if the rest of the locker room didnt

    Honestly, JR, Batista, and Mick I all agree with. That spot has gone from being impressive to just feeling cliche, especially when it's set up in a very unnatural way; Asuka deserves so much more than what she's given and her being jobbed out is hugely disrespectful to what she is capable of doing; and 20 shots is going from brutal to just excessive, especially on a midcard feud.

  • @squarepickle
    @squarepickle 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    To be fair, Drew's 20 chair shot were NOWHERE NEAR as hard to watch as The Rock's... Everyone watching Foley take those chair shots was cringing back in the day. Drew was delivering much softer shots and he was delivering them to the back. "It's okay to dive off of a 20ft tall cage and almost kill yourself to sell a match, but don't you dare take some chair shots to the back to make this fight seem more realistic". 😂

    • @sharpefilms2287
      @sharpefilms2287 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I think Mick's point wasn't so much "don't do that many chair shots" it was more "If you're going to do that much you need a DAMN good reason for it story wise. Don't just blast a guy 20 times and then go nowhere with it." But yeah, the Rock's shots were definitely much harder to watch. The swings were more brutal, they were headshots, and Foley was handcuffed so he couldn't even put his arms up. It's downright painful to watch.
