- There are very few things that are as awesome as Star Wars, and I've accumulated a large, incredible, weird collection of the movies and TV shows over the years. Come join me for a tour of my Star Wars video collection as we celebrate the magic of a Long Time Ago in a Galaxy Far, Far Away! Long live Star Wars!

You may know this by now but I wanted to share anyway. They released the Original Trilogy in DVD packaging that matched the Prequels. They each came with a DVD of a pre-special edition version. The video quality isn't as good as a you would expect on a DVD but at least it is a less degradable version of the OT to hold on to.
Yes, and those DVDs are going for SERIOUS money these days!
I still love the despecialized versions. :D Impressive collection btw.
Oh wow!!! I've never seen the first VHS editions of the original Star Wars Trilogy before!! I remember back when I was a little kid my Mom told me that the versions of Star Wars she saw in theater were different from the ones on the tapes my Dad owned. He had that first Special Edition VHS Trilogy same as the one you have. I haven't seen that set in years, and seeing it again here brings back lots of good memories. :) I gotta hunt down the original VHS release somehow, because I really want to see how they originally looked before the Special Editions. Maybe I'll get lucky and spot them at a Yard Sale one of these days.
Most of us old enough to have grown up with Star Wars before the prequels consider the original theatrical versions of those first three movies to be way better than the special editions, as the changes made in some of those movies (especially Return of the Jedi) are outright horrible. It would be interesting to see what someone who didn't grow up before the prequels were made thinks about them.
@@CerealAtMidnight I was born in 1992, so unfortunately I missed out on the original theatrical versions. I would really like to see how the original versions looked before all the tinkering. I've seen some comparison videos on youtube showing some changes made to certain scenes, and it's only made me more curious. Thankfully yard sale season is starting soon, and I'll poke around the local second hand stores. Maybe I'll luck out and find it soon, and thanks to your video I know what the original box art looks like so that will definitely help. :)
I see old Star Wars VHS tapes at lots of places, since they’ve sold so many millions of copies over the years. Hopefully you’ll find some.
@@stephaniemack176 I don't remember what happened to my 1992 original trilogy box set but I do remember selling my 1995 THX remastered trilogy box set to a used dvd store. This channel has done the best job of chronicling all the changes. - th-cam.com/video/RNbzSH84mj0/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/uvbrVFP_f0w/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/FmWjPoqEhzg/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/a2obEPFGrMs/w-d-xo.html I grew up with the original versions and I categorically prefer the SE by a long shot. There are maybe about 4 or 5 changes that bother me (the prequel tying changes) but in my opinion the vast majority of the changes are for the better.
You kind of look like Ahch To Luke, & I appreciate that
There's a glass of green milk from a Thala-Siren just of screen.
I only own the 1997 VHS (altered versions) of the original trilogy and the 2006 DVD set which includes the unaltered original trilogy. If they come out with an unaltered version of the original trilogy on Blu-Ray i will most definitely get that, I just hope they don't price it too high!
I have the original VHS releases ($80 each back in the day!), the $250 CAV LaserDisc box, the individual LaserDisc versions of the Special Edition trilogy, the 2-disc DVDs of the I-VI, and the micro-series discs. As far as I-VI, I will never buy them again. One day I'll get all of the CGI Clone Wars and Rebels, and anything else Filoni has a hand in. Everything else (except Rouge One possibly) can stay out of my home.
No laserdiscs? You need the Definitive Collection
I feel like Mark Hamill is talking to me about his Star Wars collection.
Yeah. Got those same vibes too. Maybe it’s a multiverse variant of Mark…
Man I had the original vhs thx trilogy set, the special editions in widescreen, the phantom menace limited edition packaging and all the dvds. Crazy. I still love the special edition and thx trilogy packaging
The original Clone Wars animated series being erased from continuity is upsetting since they were conceived to lead us directly into Episode 3 (ie General Grievous).
I agree. They were awesome, but when the Filoni series came around, it seems like they were deemed too broad in tone. Personally, I LOVE the original Clone Wars shorts. That was such a great time to be a Star Wars fan.
Clone Wars 2003 made no sense. It was way too unrealistic
@@AlexMrShot How?

Ha. I saw it too. The cat is like "Why does my human have so many weird stuff that I don't know what it is because I'm a cat."

I'm glad I snagged Caravan of Courage and Battle for Endor to round out my Star Wars DVD set.
The european version of the 2011 blu-ray set has regular disc holders and it actually has pitures of the characters on the discs, not just plain white.
I remember back in college circa 1992 there was an awesome VHS Letterbox edition of the original trilogy in a big blue box with a lenticular cover pic of Luke & Leia that moved as you shifted the box back and forth. I wanted it so bad my mom gave me the money to get it. Suddenly I was the popular dude and everyone came over to watch Star Wars in my apt. You must get this edition for your collection. Cheers.
I REALLY want that edition for my collection, but it just hasn't happened at a price I'm comfortable with yet. It will be mine...oh yes...it will be mine. LOL.
@@CerealAtMidnight If I recall correctly the set was around $125 brand new in 1992! Can only imagine how much it would cost today on the secondary market!
Surprised you don't have the 2006 limited edition DVDs for the original theatrical cuts.
Yeah, I missed out on those because I didn't want to give Lucas any more money, then immediately regretted it when they went out of print. Well played, George. Well played.
They put out dvds sometime ago of droids and Ewoks episodes compiled into two movies per-pack, although they’re a bit edited and mushed together a bit pointlessly. Nathan butler has videos on that, and pretty much every US release of Star Wars anything, cool guy, very thorough. Anyway, cool collection! Keep watching The Clone Wars, season 5 is rad!
I also have “The story of Star Wars” DVD and I’m pretty sure it came as a Walmart exclusive that was packaged with revenge of the sith
I don't think I am getting anymore Star Wars unless they release the non-special edition original trilogy.
Not sure if you know of the 4K77 project. This are better that Harmy's. An actual 4K scan of the original reel. Currently they have Star Wars and Return of the Jedi complete, Empires Strikes back is a work in project for now :)
I haven't seen that, sounds very cool!
@@CerealAtMidnight www.thestarwarstrilogy.com/page/Project-4K77# hopefully the link will work :)
My bet is that Disney will release the original unaltered Star Wars trilogy after Episode 9. So my bet is Holiday 2020.
I hope so. I’ll be all over it.
Hi from the future. Still wiating for unaltered trilogy.
@@TNT_Mancave Yes. Sadly I was wrong. Maybe they’ll do it is a Disney + Original when they run out of shows
Just stumbled across this. Awesome video, really bringing back some memories... Makes me want to go back and watch 4-6 in their unadulterated state...
Watching 4-6 in their original state is such a refreshing experience. I love George Lucas, but he has done his reputation no favors by forcing those special editions on us and refusing to release the original versions over and over. When I watch the original cuts of those movies, it's like I'm a kid again.
Awesome! I own a few of those myself!
I got the Star Wars the Clone Wars micro series for 2.99 both and in great condition
I am the proud Owner of the Prime collection at 6:10 ! I Love Them and I don't have a Loyalty to the Original releases! I Think Lucas boosting the Star Trek VI TUC Praxis explosion effect was quite the reboot for Alderaan and The Death Star . Also replacing Ian McDiarmid for Clive Revill was most needed because Ian usurped the role! And I also Have the Anakin Trilogy as well. For DVD They both look Very clear High Def-esque but there was once info on DVD's actually having the first level of High Def but weren't quite Blu-Ray Level. So Some DVD's may have actually had this nifty little fact.
Fantastic! But I'm sure you even haven't seen the 2004 wide screen edition with the FIVE episodes, I, II, IV, V, VI. Not the 2004 Trilogy, but the five episodes. It has a Darth Maul cover. Only licence in U.S. and Canada, 5 DVDs for the Episodes and four more of special futures.
Am I right?
You could connect your VCR to and HDTV and put the bars in the side, but oh well
I need to pick up Star Wars Rebels. I loved it but haven't grabbed those DVDs yet.
I grew up on the prequels and loved them in my childhood!! The Revenge of the Sith is still one of my favourite Star Wars movies! I understand why they put JarJar in the movies as he is a great character for younger audiences, and I use to love him as a child, but as I've grown up I have learned to dislike him.
Aw, DP, it makes me sad that you used to love Jar Jar and now dislike him. While I recognize the annoying aspects of the character, I see the purpose he served and I love how George Lucas used him later on as a political pawn being manipulated by Palpatine. In some ways, he's one of the most tragic characters of the prequels.
Cereal At Midnight I don’t dislike him as much as some people, but as I have gotten older his voice irritates me. Also yeah I agree his story is really sad if you think about it. It’s also pretty sad that they decreased his role throughout each of the films.
I love Jar-Jar Binks, he's a great character, he's funny 🤩❤️
I love Jar-Jar Binks, he's funny, he's very well integrated into the story, he helps the heroes, he has a very good evolution in Attack of the Clones and his story is sad, he lost his master, Qui-Gon Jinn, he lost his senator, Padmé Amidala, he lives alone at the end of Revenge of the Sith 😢 he cries at Qui-Gon and Padmé's funerals 😢 I have no problem with this character, I love him, just like the ewoks, just like C3-PO, just like the jawas and just like Jabba the hutt 😊 I love the gungans 😊
I’m kind of surprised he doesn’t have a laserdisc release of these films, considering most people who collect movies (including me) like to get the best quality possible out of there films.
I never had a laserdisc player, and I still don't. I was always a VHS collector, as Laserdisc was way outside my minimum wage budget in the 90s.
I have the original movies in laserdisc unaltered but they are beat up but they play pretty good

"A little hut baby named stinky" LMAO
The unaltered Star Wars vhs set, I found recently at a thrift store for $3 (of course I got it)
I have a dvd set with the alerted versions that includes the unaltered version on a separate disc. I treasure them. I have many of these versions as well. Did you see the Star Wars Holiday Special way back in 1978? It aired once and then vanished. I would also recommend Turkish Star Wars for sheer hilarity.
Awesome Collection
I found the Star Wars the clone wars Cartoon Network volume 2 at a game store for a dollar!!
That’s an incredible deal! Those are hard to find now and I still think that cartoon holds up.
The story of star wars dvd i have came with the episode 3 dvd in a 2 case combo pavk at walmart way back in 2007 or 2008.
If I'm not mistaken, I think it was the for the December 2, 2005 DVD release.
That story of star wars came with the original trilogy on DVD, they were all in a collectible box. that's how mine came anyway.
i have some of the stuff you have, also have clone wars season 5 and the lost missions.
Hey, thanks for the info! I think I also heard that maybe "The Story of Star Wars" was a Walmart exclusive. I might have picked it up second hand, because I think I bought by OT at Best Buy.
The original 2003 2D animated Clone Wars series needs to be re released on blu ray, Disney want you to forget about that series, they need to be released
Hello there!
Rad collection! Dig your enthusiasm. Got a new fan here.
Thanks, Kyle!
l'm just wondering if you've seen or own on DVD or Blue - Ray, a Star Wars full - length documentary about the (the extras) people who were behind or beneath the masks or helmets of the original Star Wars movie called 'Elstree 1976', very interesting and nostalgic to watch, must have for all Star Wars fans.
I have indeed seen Elstree 1976. It was an interesting watch, especially since some of those people (if I'm remembering correctly) are chasing that five minutes of fame, while others seem resentful that such a huge cultural phenomenon didn't open more doors for them.
i Always found it weird that in the U.S they Always used cardboard sleeves with the VHS i have the normal and widescreen special editions also with sleeve but thats because there in special boxsets but if u bought a normal vhs tape here u never got it in sleeve but in the spanish version cover like he has only recordable vhs tapes were in sleeve
Droids and Ewok series are on DVD but not all the episodes. By now you might have picked up the original trilogy Limited Editions which include the theatrical versions on DVD. No bootleg of The Holiday Special? No collection is complete without.
If I had a bootleg of the Holiday Special, I wouldn’t talk about it on the channel. Wink wink.
I have it THX widescreen DVD. I buy the original trilogy DVD from 1997 edition which we sees the original film copy for A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back. Unfortunately I didn't have it for Return Of The Jedi. I grew up prequel trilogy. I always enjoying SW with start watching original trilogy first. But it more works if we watching from original copy. Not remastered. I love all SW trilogies
I have a dvd of A New Hope that has 2 discs, the special edition and the unaltered edition, both widescreen. It also came with the star wars trade paperback comic. I assume it is rare because I've never been able to find the other two films unaltered on dvd.
They’re considered the “Limited Edition” DVDs. Glad I got them back in the day. The price fluctuates and they can get expensive.
I've got all three. While the unaltered versions are included as bonus discs, they are rips from the laser disc versions, meaning they are lower resolution and not remastered.
A DVD Edition of Star Wars Droids exists, I actually saw it in person at my local video store. They deal in a lot of second hand DVD'S and Blu-rays, so every so often I'll find a rare out of print treasure for sale in there. I wish that I had the money to buy it, but it was classified under their "Hard to Find Collection" and understandably expensive as a result. But I did scoop up something interesting yesterday while I was in a local thrift shop. It's a DVD copy of a Documentary about Star Wars Fans called: "Jedi Junkies: The Force is Strong with Them" it was only 50 cents so I grabbed it. I admit that I almost didn't buy it, because when I saw that title and the cover photo of a woman in Leah's Slave Bikini, I initially mistook it for a Porno. LOL Thankfully I read the back of the DVD and saw that I was mistaken.
I didn't mind the Episodes 1 2 and 3 Cause I explained about Luke father and I like that. I get mine rogue cause that takes place before a new hope and the han solo But the force awakens the last jedi And the rise of skywalker shouldn't have not have happened. I still own them cause it's part of my collection. But I didn't think those three were necessary
Let's get weird. I got a phantom menace whose cast is totally made of blaxploitation cast! I'm talking step in fetchit playing c3po.
I love you bro.
I would LOVE a Phantom Menace Blaxploitation movie. Or any Star Wars in the Blaxploitation style. Of course, Sam Jackson would still be in it, right? But he'd have the filter off.
@@CerealAtMidnight lol. Right? Billy dee and Samuel.
Amazing collection!
No Bata max or Laser Disc?
I'm happy with the special edition, but draw the line at them adding nooooo over the top of John Williams' score in Return of the Jedi to the bluray. I would love to get them on 4k bluray, but I need to know they will revert that change first.
Here’s hoping after episode 9, Disney releases the original trilogy in their pure form. If we are going to get it, I suspect that’s when it will be. 2020 or 2021.
I have everything but a good selection of VCD. I only have the Star Wars trilogy. And Episode II is a bootleg and Episode 1 I doubt either of those even play.
Cool collection 😎👍
can you make a update of your Star Wars
I don’t believe there are any additions outside of Solo.
I wish Lucasfilm would do another Documentary similar to Empire of Dreams, but have it be several hours long and cover every film in the franchise equally in depth.
I think that would be AWESOME. I also think Disney is not going to let that happen. Disney even killed J. W. Rinzler's behind the scenes book for The Force Awakens because they wanted to production detail to be kept secret. The writer had been given all access to the Lucasfilm archives for all his past "Making Of" books, but then was basically told to stop working on his book as The Force Awakens neared completion. As much as I love Disney (I REALLY love Disney), they make a lot of decisions that bother me, and that's one of them. Also, they've pretty much gutted Lucasfilm to the point that it's basically a shell of the company it once was. Maybe years down the line we'll get something like what you're talking about.
The Star Wars prequels and originals are the best movies of all time 💖🥰😍🔥🤩
Nice collection I miss George Lucas too he bought me star wars into my life without him there would've been no star wars
Word! And the more we learn about how Disney took control during the transition and pushed him out, refusing to use his story treatments for 7, 8, and 9, the more I realize that there is no Star Wars without George Lucas. It's good news that Jon Favreau has been consulting with Lucas for The Mandalorian.
No copy of the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special?
Not on disc, no. I stuck to legal releases for this video (doesn't feel like 4 years ago!)
Dude I want to know how you came across those original vhs. Future video? Or you could write in the comments. What evs.
Thrift store, Charlie! One dollar per tape.
I was born in 1993 so growing up I seen VHS of original Triogly then in the remastered Triogly came out which I remember that version as well then the prequel trilogy came out and now the sequel trilogy so with that out of the way
Original Triogly I fell in love with the lore(I know what it i just don't know where to get it)
Remastered Triogly not a big fan but a new edition on movies i like I considered them as guilty pleasures( I own the original DVD release &blue ray set)
The prequel trilogy I don't care for it but there are a few moments I do enjoy(I know some day I will own it but currently not in the collection
Sequel Triogly I enjoy the movie(I own on blue ray)
Thanks for the reminder, I have to watch clone wars with my wife. She had no interest in it until she sat down an watched a later episodes, then she told me to get the set on Bluray.
People who don't like the inclusion of Ewoks or Jar-Jar: maybe you don't like Star Wars. It's a family-friendly fantasy/sci-fi movie, and so it has fun characters in it. If you don't want any silliness in your movies, maybe go watch The Godfather or something.
Hey bro are you a Plex user? Would be cool to get some advice on what it is and how to use it
I’m not but a ton of other people that hang out around to channel are. Hopefully someone will see your comment and help out.
Listing to you is like listing to a buddy
That's the highest praise I could get, man.
What about return of Jedi
Will you ever go out of your way to download the Harmy Despecialized Editions on blu ray?
No. Without getting too deep into the weeds, it's not a pure restoration of the original trilogy as they were seen in theaters. There are still tweaks and "corrections" that he's made as per his own preference. I have nice digital files of the unaltered trilogy (not in HD) that I'm happy with until we get something official. Plus, I have many of the VHS tapes, too.
Cereal At Midnight fair enough. I own them myself and I’m very satisfied with them I have to say. But I see your point. I myself would love to own the many VHS releases
Beautiful beard win
You never mentioned the laser disc versions

I also do have 2000 Spaceballs MGM Movie Time VHS, Family Guy Blue Harvest Collector's DVD + Digital Copy, Family Guy Trilogy Blu-ray + Digital Copy, Robot Chicken Special DVD, and Fanboys DVD.
Awesome collection! I am a Sci-Fi lover, but I proudly own NO Star Wars films.. The ONE Star Wars movie I'd buy, is an 8k remaster released in a 4k/Bluray-pack of the original, first movie. None of the CGI-crap which ruined it; just the first movie as I saw it when I was eleven and was blown away. THAT I would buy. Maybe.. After that I could feel I wasn't in to it; I saw the first trilogy in the movies, but quickly lost interest; too cute, too kids-friendly, too.. dull and silly, frankly. After I saw Alien in the little local cinema one village over a year or two after its release, I never looked back. And at some point Blade Runner, and after that I realised Sci-Fi for me was not the cutesy SW's; it was a gritty, dystopian mind-bending future which mirrored the worst of the world we already had. But it makes me happy to see your collection, it really does!!
What is it worth
No bootleg Star Wars Holiday Special?
Of course. But that’s not collectible, and not interesting to talk about in a collecting video. Anybody could download that at any time.
It just gets weirder. Lol. La Menasa Fantasma. That's jokes. Cool collection though.
This is nothing compared to Nathan butler. He has every American star wars home video product and he has lots of international products too
Good for Nathan Butler! I’m not comparing my collection to anyone’s. The point of this video was to share my passion for Star Wars and talk about how long I’ve loved it and through how many generations of physical media, not to compete with other TH-camrs.
17:04 Ditto
I don't think Lucas was the guy. I think it was a group effort and he started to take credit for everything in the mid-90s
Interesting. I would say that part of being the guy is knowing how to put together a team, how to direct them, and how to get the absolute best work out of them. Not many are capable of doing this. He's Danny Ocean. He can't do it all alone, he needs a team, so he picks the BEST team. And even if you allow that he started taking credit for everything in the mid-90s, that's 25 years into his career. By that point, he had concieved THX, American Graffiti, Willow, and co-created Indiana Jones. Star Wars is the thing he'll be remembered for, but he's got quite a resume outside of it, too.
@@CerealAtMidnight THX and AG are a crushing bore. Indiana Jones was later with Spielberg, then what? Howard The Duck, the Stars Wars prequels and Red Tails lol
Also why would you cite Willow as a competent film
If you think THX and American Graffiti are a "crushing bore," there's no point in continuing this line of conversation. We clearly want and appreciate different things from film.
Be well.
@@CerealAtMidnight See ya
I'm proud to own the rare Original Clone Wars & Ewok films on DVD along side the rest of the franchise.
Where the steel books ???
How much do you pay for the majority of your DVD's?
It just depends. Some of my DVDs are 20 years old, and I probably paid retail for them at the time. But these days, I'm CHEAP. I hunt for movies at thrift stores, flea markets, and second hand stores. I still buy new releases if I really have to have them (like the new Star Wars movies for example), but I'm always looking for a bargain. And since so many people are only watching movies on Netflix these days and selling or donating their collections, I'm picking stuff up for an average of two dollars per movie.
Same here but I haven't been to a flea market since I was a kid. The best deals are at pawn shops or eBay. Both places are the best to talk people down to insane prices and finding very valuable movies. Pawn shops are very weird because I tell them when I find super rare movies or games and they don't even care what I tell them. I turn around and sell some DVD's for $20, $40, even $80. About a year ago I found SLC Punk in near mint condition. Paid $0.50 for it and sold it for $60. Paid $5.00 for an old original Xbox game called The Guy Game. Turned around and sold it for $69. Pawn shops pay less than a nickel for their stuff so all they care about is turning it into quick profit no matter if it's $0.45.
Why would you need to have All SW films on All Media??
Blu Ray should be enough..

Luke Skywalker looks like me. ;)
Ps. Love the original trilogy most followed by the prequels. I find it hard to consider clones wars canon with Darth Maul being brought back. Also most of the Disney stuff doesn't work that well (though I think 8 is my favourite disney so far, the other three break too many things in canon - if Darth Vader can't read minds then neither c should his grandson be able to.)
I respect that you look like a young Luke from Ep 8
They have the original copys of the first Star Wars movies on dvd unchanged
I think The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker are bad, useless and boring, the stories are bad and the characters are bad :-(
You look like Luke Skywalker dude.
Episode 9 is the worst star wars movie ever
the third film is the worst and the second one sucks
