  • We had a problem with our shed workshop flat felt roof leaking and needed a quick repair. Instead of replacing the felt roof we decided to use a product called Ever build Black Jack All Weather Roof Coating which will seal and repair the roof to prevent current and future leaks it also helps to protect the felt, at the time of this video 5 litres of this costs £17 at Toolstation. We needed approximately 1 and half tins for a roof that is 24ft x 12ft (length/width) which should give you an idea of how much you'd need.
    This product can be used on a variety of materials including concrete, metal, felt and some plastics, and ideally you want to paint it on as we found using a roller can cause finishing issues as it contains little fibres so is best applied with a paint brush really and you must mix this thoroughly!
    I hope this product review helps you, it sorted out problem out. If you like this video please consider dropping a like and/or subscribing.

    In case anyone is still interested, this product goes on well with a SOFT sweeping brush (the type you would sweep a laminate floor with). I bought a couple from pound land. MUCH MUCH easier than a paintbrush.

    Grat help for me, thank you.
    In my case flat porch roof covered with felt started to leak. Following recommendations bought and gave 3 coats of "Thompson's 10 YEAR ROOF SEAL" in 3 dry days, above 10 deg temperature outside. First terrential rain and leak comes back.
    Climbed the roof after the rain inspect the cover. Seemed healthy, but notice tiny spike. Trying to snap it actually started too peel entire coat and peeled coat from entire roof in almost one move!
    But the worst thing was - it was dry on the top and wet underneath! It was working like kind of film letting water leak to the ground and keeping it there.
    Following you movie i bough instead Everbuild Black Jack All Weather Roof Coat 5L and just one paint did the job perfectly!
    Thank you guys! I should have come across this review sooner.

    Just wanted to share that I used this product after watching your helpful video. I'd started with the thinner 'Bitumen Paint' but this didn't do the job. I follower it up with 2 coats of this 'All Weather Roof Coating', and, fingers crossed it is holding up however one issue was: one of the problems with my roof is there's a lot of pooling of water - this product says that it will be resistant to rain almost immediately but the problem is that in the areas of my roof where the water pools, the paint has also run into these areas so is thicker. The paint may be showerproof instantly but where the water pools the paint has split to some extent - it still seems to be holding the water off but once it's dry I'm going to give it another coat of paint. I used a tar brush which was quick, but it might have gone on a bit too thick to dry quickly.

    • @DanielJohnHowTo
      @DanielJohnHowTo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      sounds like the underlying structure of the roof has a low spot, this paint is good but isn't a magic bullet to bigger problems.

  • @theplantpotman
    @theplantpotman 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Just a top tip,
    Use a soft brush like what you use indoors, or a 5" paste brush, also, a company in wakefield called bc profiles sells a 25ltr tin of 905 for £43 plenty for 2- 3 coats but good video you got there in the end, 👍

  • @BloomingEck
    @BloomingEck 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I'm not a fast mover and it does go off quite quick - I found that if I put the tin inside a bucket that had a few inches of boiling water in it; it gave me plenty of time to cover my 15 sq meter roof, without straining my wrist stirring every 5 minutes ;-).

  • @arvo56
    @arvo56 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I've used this & Roofix & the important thing is to mix it thoroughly. I now use a mixing tool [£10] in an electric drill, which is miles better than a stick! As I have a 20ft x 12 ft roof to cover, I will roll it on & not punish myself with a 3" brush.

    • @DanielJohnHowTo
      @DanielJohnHowTo  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      true mixing it is important, we did the job on a sunday afternoon when shops were closed the roof was leaking so wanted to get it done before the rain that being said brushing will apply a thicker coat, however you can roller 2-3 times if needed.

    Good afternoon
    I have a question for you.
    On a flat felt roof we had a slight leak in one of the bedroom ceilings;
    * We Bitumen painted the felt joint/seals (how long is the job good for?)
    * We Bitumen painted the felt joints/seals and then a 2nd coat , a few days later, for the entire roof( how long is the job good for?)
    It only caused a small leak and that was down to the recent 6 weeks of solid /hard rain/torrential rain.
    Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

    Blackjack works for a short term fix, but won't last long on a flat roof that gets sun all day in summer, it eventually just melts through the porous areas it sealed and you need more, it may work better on a flat roof that doesn't experience full sun all day long in the summer, or in places where its not so warm in summer, but as a short term fix it can help in some situations, it's just not %100 guaranteed to work in all situations.
