    ALWAYS, always make sure the wick is thoroughly saturated with kerosene or parafin lamp oil for 2 MINs before lighting. This will keep the wick from burning instead of fuel. Used correctly, a wick can last 10 times that of those who try to light a barely damp wick.

    I live n an Amish community, they all use mineral spirits. They say it burns cleaner & hotter. Also mineral spirits in their oil lamps. I have a 3 burner New Perfection & a 2 burner Swartz, luv them. Thx for the vid.

    Those burners and the stove look exactly like the stove in a cottage my grandparents owned in Oxford, Ct. back in the '50's. I think theirs was a three-burner. I've never forgotten those burners! Brought back many a memory!

    Man that's really nice, and a great tutorial. I have a Butterfly #2418 from St. Paul's Mercantile. It cooks circles around my Coleman and other stoves I have. It's amazing how much fuel it uses, it's really efficient. I use it with my Aladdin blue flame heater and Aladdin lamps. It's great system, and I wished I had tried it decades ago.

      The moonlighter's are basically 1915 Perfection Kerosene Heaters because they don't have the catalytic converter of the more modern Japanese (Chinese) heaters.

      Lamp oil can be either a Kerosene derivative or liquid Paraffin. Paraffin turns solid at lower temperatures and is too thick for good capillary action. They are meant for Kerosene. You would not run your gas car on an alternative fuel, would you? (And I do understand that Ethanol fuel is used but at a risk of water absorption and reduced "gas" mileage due to Ethanol having less energy than gasoline per gallon.)

    Found out a new trick today i have a 3 burner new perfection stove .One burner worked ok but I could feel the gear slip once in a while. I then noticed that the old perfection wicks are smaller then the new wicks made by the Amish so I put in a new wick from Schwartz and no more gear slip on the wick. I'm using Schwartz Amish wicks from now on they are a tad bigger and tighter fit

      There is a difference between the "Tall Blue" chimney burners and the Hi-Power burners. Same wick but 30% more heat from a Hi-Power burner. Also the Hi-Power chimneys flow better too so they contribute to a higher heat output.

      @@greghall_The_TechEditor They use the same wick is there that much difference? Maybe there is I've never tested. The Chimneys however the different I've noticed is the width on the perfection Chimneys are fatboys and the ivanhoes I've seen are short skinny and tall Chimneys all sizes. Well it all started for me with a 750G Perfection heater and I loved it.I then found a Ivanhoe Stove that I restored with a new top grates and Chimneys .Your videos helped me restore it and learn about these wonderful stoves .I take my two burner ivanhoe camping and I have bought extra heater flame spreaders off of ebay to turn it into a emergency heater. Perfection products from the old days are the best because you can clean the wicks in seconds before every use. Thanks again for your help

    How much odor do these stoves release?

    • @greghall_The_TechEditor
      @greghall_The_TechEditor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      On start-up, there is some. Burning at temperature, almost none. Most is masked by whatever you are cooking. And again there is some during shutdown. ANd finally with the stove off and if the wicks are left wet, there is a slight Kerosene odor if standing right next to the stove. After a while, you don't even notice it.

    • @greghall_The_TechEditor
      @greghall_The_TechEditor  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Being more viscous than Kerosene, it will not "wick" upwards into the wick as well as kerosene, resulting in a lower flame output. Also it hardens at low temperatures. Generally any flat wick lamp with a wick wider than 3/4", liquid paraffin is not recommended. That being said, the stove wicks are far larger than that, so..........

      I NEVER use Diesel! I do not care to burn fuel injector lubricant. Kerosene can turn from clear with exposure to heat and light. My jug sits in the Kitchen on the stove jug mount and it slowly turns color. Still burns the same. I don't get scammed when it comes to Kerosene or Kerosene devices. My Kerosene has been verified by Jefferson County, NY. Weights & Measures as Canadian #1 Stove Oil imported by Valero. The locked pump can't say K1 Clear Kerosene because it is not! It is #1 Canadian Stove oil with only 15 ppm of Sulfur. That is why the pump states " Un-Dyed, Un-Taxed, Clear Kerosene"
