Agent Venom was a pretty good take on the whole "Fighting the Symbiotes animalistic urges while trying to do good" thing. After the first Venom and Carnage himself I think he's probably one of the better Symbiote characters from Spider-man.
Little did Linkara know that, 9 years later, there would be a sequel to Maximum Carnage, that draws on that John Carpenter idea he raised. Can't wait for 2020.
A comment from the future: yeah, this backstory was entirely retconned out. Either the story is no longer considered cannon, or it’s been completely forgotten, but they’ve now created a completely different backstory to the symbiote in the pages of guardians of the galaxy and finally gave the race a damn name: they are the Klyntar, a race of liquidesque creatures with a hive mind. They were created originally as a malevolent army by a being as powerful as the Celestials, the god of the Symbiotes, Knull. One day, during a battle with Thor, their connection with knull’s mind was severed while being bonded to some ancient Nordic warriors, “tainting” them with the concepts of honour, nobility and protection. They rebelled against their master and imprisoned him. Ashamed of their past, they set out to protect peace within the universe by seeking out noble species to bond with to create an organization of noble warriors. When a member begins to display certain traits, they are somewhat severed from the hive mind.
Honestly I love the idea of Venom as an anti-hero it works with how Eddie Brock always wanted to report the facts and be a good guy before putting on the suit. So him deciding to try and help people is great development for a villain and if they had stuck to it with proper characterization and writing could have been a great long running series .
Much agreed, and furthermore I much preferred the era where Flash Thompson was Agent Venom and Eddie Brock was Anti-Venom, I feel it was a good switch up for both Eddie and the symbiote

Too bad I actually watched the saga's conclusion episode first. It was around the time when I first learned about Linkara from one of his collabs with Suede, and I didn't know at the time that Linkara does storylines.
Also good job on a plausible ending that is both cool and not a let down from all the build up you have been putting on. I seriously applaud this, even Arrow could not really do this right, also good work on figuring out how a dutch angle is supposed to be used.
One way I could describe the main two Symbiote characters: Venom is the Klingons. Capable of furious vengeance, ferocious, unwilling to back down from a fight, determined and strong in their convictions. Honorable, however. Reasonable, with time. Carnage is the Borg. Relentless. Can’t be reasoned with. Every confrontation comes with the threat of total Annihilation.
This storyline is particularly chilling when you realize 90's Kid is supposed to be a kid (Lewis apparently stated somewhere 90'S kid was actually in his early teens) and we never find out if those taken by the Entity are killed when they are taken or what. TL;DR: I find it really creepy that an outer god possessed a kid and we don't know how aware those taken are
So I'm guessing that Linkara may not be a fan of Venom getting cosmic powers, stealing Mjolnir, & the silver surfboard, turning them into a venom logo shaped axe that looks like its from doom eternal, killing the god if all symbiotes, then becoming the new black king.

Interesting thing, there was a video game using the whole "Thousands of symbiotes" thing to much greater effect. It is called SpiderMan: Web of Shadows. It was a pretty good game, although I only played the DS version. But yeah, the whole city gets taken over by symbiotes. It has some limited branching paths two, depending on if you decided to use the regular suit or a symbiote.

This story is worse when you realize that the issue of Spiderman where Eddie does from cancer,get back to you on that, has the Symbiote say he was only using Brock as a means town end to survive and get back to Peter. He was only willing to join back when he realised Spiderman would never join back. And no, it wasn't as a result of these events he felt that way as they never allure to this plotline.
I remember when I first saw this episode. The twist was freakin' amazing! I had to admit, I didn't really enjoy the storylines until this point because I had just started watching and I didn't really understand or care about what was happening. After the end, I HAD to go to see what happened and how everything fit together.
I don't know if someone has mentioned this, but here's a fun fact about Venom. I've done some checking, and it turns out that the original intent was that, instead of Eddie Brock, the Venom symbiote was supposed to go from Spidey to a woman who had a grudge of her own against the web-slinger. Her story was to be that an inattentive cabbie, who was watching Spider-Man in action instead of the road, accidentally hit and killed the woman's husband, who was trying to flag the cabbie down. She was also pregnant at the time, but lost the child. However, Marvel discarded this idea because they felt that their readers wouldn't find a woman to be a credible enough threat to our favorite wall-crawler (never mind the fact that a woman with the Venom symbiote would be, by definition, physically STRONGER than Spidey, just like scrawny Cletus Kassidy is with the Carnage symbiote). As a result, it came to be something of a self-fulfilling prophecy in that Spidey doesn't have many memorable female villains. In fact, the only one I can think of is Black Cat (who is technically a knock-off of Catwoman). There's an actual article detailing the original intent for Venom online, but I don't know if TH-cam would let me post a link.

There's no need to get hostile about it. Let's not forget that in comic book land, characters tend to make decisions based on things that make sense only to them. The woman was also pregnant and going into labor at the time, but the child ended up being stillborn. According to the article, the experience of losing both her husband and her child caused her to go insane and be institutionalized in the Ravencroft Institute. She would've eventually regained her sanity, but still blamed Spidey for the death of her husband and child. Plus, let's not forget that Eddie Brock's motivations for hating Spidey weren't exactly either. He hated the wall-crawler because of events that resulted from his own stupidity, and he had a "Never My Fault" thing going on as well.

The Symbiote actually highjacked Peters body to let him rest, while the symbiote took on the role of Spiderman to protect the city ( However a more Violent Spidey, since it didn't know the difference between his and Spidey's version of being a super hero) Again, this is a new revelation in the comic series during the time of this post; but does kinda show it actually did like spidey and wanted to protect him.
When Flash Thompson went to the Symbiote's homeworld and found out they were Klyntars I thought about this comic mini-series. Klyntars were aliens who bonded with other beings to survive and took the personalities of their hosts. Most Klyntars are peace loving creatures, but the Venom Klyntar was corrupted by its genocidal "first" host (its original host was a Kree, but after separating, the Venom Klyntar's memories were erased) who used it to slaughter most of the inhabitants on the continent, no matter how many good hosts it had, the rage and evil from the first host was inbedded in the Venom Klyntar's personality. The Klyntars then "purged" the evil from the Venom Klyntar, resetting it to its default personality, and the heroic Flash Thompson was able to be a superhero with a perfectly docile and obedient symbiote at his command. And then the writers blew all that up, stuck the symbiote with a gangster, turning it evil again, and then gave it back to Eddie Brock.

Actually Eddie was permanently bonded to the symbiote until he became Antivenom. It is proven in Sensational Spiderman: Back in Black , specifically in The Last Temptation of Eddie Brock in which it is shown that after selling the Symbiote, it still manifests within Brock's psyche, the symbiote even mentions that he is waiting Eddie to die, because the doctors will make Eddie an autopsy and set the symbiote free.

I think part of the backlash against Carnage, in particular, is a case of poor timing. I think a lot of people lump him in with the trend of 'Take X Character, But Make Them EXTREME!' that was so prominent in the 90s, and wore out its welcome more quickly than the publishers realized. But Carnage legitimately posed an interesting question...well before they ended up handing the Venom symbiote itself around to half the Marvel universe...of what Venom would be like without Eddie Brock's sense of morality, twisted as it may be by his obsession. And as Venom was developing into more of an antihero than a full-on villain, I think that was a question worth asking.

YKW, I’m not totally against the “misunderstood symbiote” idea. Say it goes like this. When it first gets stuck to Peter, it doesn’t have a clue about flesh-creature “emotional boundaries” so it does all the shady mind-control crap. Then it gets rejected for the first time in its life, and joining with Eddie Brock crystallizes both in a moment of pure hate and spite. They have their stated goals, but on some level they both feed into a loop of hate thinking that’s what it takes to keep venom together. Think the “it only loves me… for the hate” moment in the spectacular Spider-Man cartoon. From there, you could somehow get them to reconcile and slide them into anti-hero status or separate them and get an agent venom storyline.
You know... this might just a rumour, but I heard that an idea that was thrown around was making Mary-Jane a modern reincarnation of Red Sonja... I love this idea. So many people thought that she was boring, I don't necessarily agree but I can see why. So having her running around with A BATTLEAXE would be amazing, especially the team ups with her husband and bringing Red Sonja more into the Marvel Universe. Maybe if Mary-Jane was a moderate Red Sonja then they'd still be married... or at least the deal would be undone.
Unpopular opinion, but I actually prefer Venom as an anti-hero or hero than a villain. Flash Thompson’s Venom was so much more likable than Eddie Brock, and I love the idea of the symbiote itself undergoing a character arc that leads to it becoming a hero.
let's hear it for Venom having been around for 30 years now. And for the record, I like all the symbiotes, hell Eddie has had 3 different aliases in his tenure, Venom, Anti-Venom and Toxin. One last note, this is one reason I like retcons if used right, like the frickin Klintar thing that the symbiotes are now, as depicted in Guardians of the Galaxy
The Entity's hunger is a dark reflection of Lord Vice's need to control under the guise of "protecting" things. Vice's motivation later becomes a dark reflection of Linkara's own obsessive drive to save the Earth, as seen in that "evil hologram" plotline

I also think Venom deserves the title of Arch-Enemy for Spiderman. Also, he should of been kept the way he was in his first appearance. I do think Flash Thompson Venom is awesome, or at least he was when he had his own solo comic, before being put in the GOTG and sidelined, but I agree that Venom needs to go back to basics. He was so much more compelling as a villain.
While I do prefer Venom as an enemy of Spider-Man, I do feel like Green Goblin earned his title as one of Spidey's archenemies, considering he was responsible for a LOT of bad things in Peter's life. Of course, given Norman Osborn's recent graduation to an enemy to the Avengers, I guess that does leave a spot open. Too bad Venom's too busy cycling between being a straight villain, an anti-hero, or whatever the writers want him to be, leaving Doctor Octopus as the only remaining member of the Big Three Spidey Villains as his nemesis. However, I also really like the idea that Venom, Goblin, and Doctor Octopus all collectively share the spot for Spider-Man's archenemy, in a similar vein as how The Cheetah, Ares, and Circe are generally considered Wonder Woman's three archenemies (even though in recent times Circe's been getting the edge out, because The New 52).

I don't know if someone has mentioned this, but here's a fun fact about Venom. I've done some checking, and it turns out that the original intent was that, instead of Eddie Brock, the Venom symbiote was supposed to go from Spidey to a woman who had a grudge of her own against the web-slinger. Her story was to be that an inattentive cabbie, who was watching Spider-Man in action instead of the road, accidentally hit and killed the woman's husband, who was trying to flag the cabbie down. She was also pregnant at the time, but lost the child.
However, Marvel discarded this idea because they felt that their readers wouldn't find a woman to be a credible enough threat to our favorite wall-crawler (never mind the fact that a woman with the Venom symbiote would be, by definition, physically STRONGER than Spidey, just like scrawny Cletus Kassidy is with the Carnage symbiote). As a result, it came to be something of a self-fulfilling prophecy in that Spidey doesn't have many memorable female villains. In fact, the only one I can think of is Black Cat (who is technically a knock-off of Catwoman).

There's no need to get hostile about it. Let's not forget that in comic book land, characters tend to make decisions based on things that make sense only to them.
The woman was also pregnant and going into labor at the time, but the child ended up being stillborn. According to the article, the experience of losing both her husband and her child caused her to go insane and be institutionalized in the Ravencroft Institute. She would've eventually regained her sanity, but still blamed Spidey for the death of her husband and child.
Plus, let's not forget that Eddie Brock's motivations for hating Spidey weren't exactly either. He hated the wall-crawler because of events that resulted from his own stupidity, and he had a "Never My Fault" thing going on as well.
Scream was kinda okay....but I agree with Marvel's idea...the do have a point ( with you in it ) because a girl combined with a symbiote = not scary nor menacing...
BTIsaac I did mention that she went crazy, didn't I? All I'm saying is that while I acknowledge that it's flawed, it's not an entirely bad idea and could be salvaged if done right. Plus, you don't know for sure if them dismissing it as stupid is how it really went down.

Again, this is a new revelation in the comic series during the time of this post; but does kinda show it actually did like spidey and wanted to protect him.

When Flash Thompson went to the Symbiote's homeworld and found out they were Klyntars I thought about this comic mini-series. Klyntars were aliens who bonded with other beings to survive and took the personalities of their hosts. Most Klyntars are peace loving creatures, but the Venom Klyntar was corrupted by its genocidal "first" host (its original host was a Kree, but after separating, the Venom Klyntar's memories were erased) who used it to slaughter most of the inhabitants on the continent, no matter how many good hosts it had, the rage and evil from the first host was inbedded in the Venom Klyntar's personality. The Klyntars then "purged" the evil from the Venom Klyntar, resetting it to its default personality, and the heroic Flash Thompson was able to be a superhero with a perfectly docile and obedient symbiote at his command. And then the writers blew all that up, stuck the symbiote with a gangster, turning it evil again, and then gave it back to Eddie Brock.

Actually Eddie was permanently bonded to the symbiote until he became Antivenom. It is proven in Sensational Spiderman: Back in Black , specifically in The Last Temptation of Eddie Brock in which it is shown that after selling the Symbiote, it still manifests within Brock's psyche, the symbiote even mentions that he is waiting Eddie to die, because the doctors will make Eddie an autopsy and set the symbiote free.

I think part of the backlash against Carnage, in particular, is a case of poor timing. I think a lot of people lump him in with the trend of 'Take X Character, But Make Them EXTREME!' that was so prominent in the 90s, and wore out its welcome more quickly than the publishers realized. But Carnage legitimately posed an interesting question...well before they ended up handing the Venom symbiote itself around to half the Marvel universe...of what Venom would be like without Eddie Brock's sense of morality, twisted as it may be by his obsession. And as Venom was developing into more of an antihero than a full-on villain, I think that was a question worth asking.

YKW, I’m not totally against the “misunderstood symbiote” idea. Say it goes like this. When it first gets stuck to Peter, it doesn’t have a clue about flesh-creature “emotional boundaries” so it does all the shady mind-control crap. Then it gets rejected for the first time in its life, and joining with Eddie Brock crystallizes both in a moment of pure hate and spite. They have their stated goals, but on some level they both feed into a loop of hate thinking that’s what it takes to keep venom together. Think the “it only loves me… for the hate” moment in the spectacular Spider-Man cartoon. From there, you could somehow get them to reconcile and slide them into anti-hero status or separate them and get an agent venom storyline.
I wonder what linkara's thoughts are on agent venom and flash Thompson ?
venom and carnage also have attainable, realistic goals compared to most villains. neither really want world domination or anything like that.

You know... this might just a rumour, but I heard that an idea that was thrown around was making Mary-Jane a modern reincarnation of Red Sonja... I love this idea.
So many people thought that she was boring, I don't necessarily agree but I can see why. So having her running around with A BATTLEAXE would be amazing, especially the team ups with her husband and bringing Red Sonja more into the Marvel Universe.
Maybe if Mary-Jane was a moderate Red Sonja then they'd still be married... or at least the deal would be undone.

Unpopular opinion, but I actually prefer Venom as an anti-hero or hero than a villain. Flash Thompson’s Venom was so much more likable than Eddie Brock, and I love the idea of the symbiote itself undergoing a character arc that leads to it becoming a hero.

let's hear it for Venom having been around for 30 years now. And for the record, I like all the symbiotes, hell Eddie has had 3 different aliases in his tenure, Venom, Anti-Venom and Toxin. One last note, this is one reason I like retcons if used right, like the frickin Klintar thing that the symbiotes are now, as depicted in Guardians of the Galaxy
The Entity's hunger is a dark reflection of Lord Vice's need to control under the guise of "protecting" things. Vice's motivation later becomes a dark reflection of Linkara's own obsessive drive to save the Earth, as seen in that "evil hologram" plotline
Venom is my absolute favorite Marvel character, in addition to my favorite Spidey villain. I loooove the current Venom series by Mike Costa and Gerardo Sandoval. Venom fighting my favorite dumb Marvel villain, Stegron? Yes please! Who is everyone's favorite Symbi-host? Mine would be a toss-up between Eddie and Flash.

I kinda disagree on that notion, while Venom might be more effective as a villain, I personally am all for it him being a hero or anti-hero. This may sound absurd but it sometimes sucks to see villains with designs better than the heroes get their ass kick on a daily bases and Venom is an example (Okay not entirely cause Spiderman is actually pretty cool looking)

Him becoming an anti-hero is far more logical than anyone is willing to give credit for (he's far less villainous and bloodthirsty than Deadpool and I find it hilarious how people trash anti-hero Brock while they are perfectly with Magneto as an anti-hero.

He was an extremist who wanted the best for mutant kind who are mistreated, in comparison Eddie was a guy who hated Spider-Man. Brian Michael Bendis actualy rebooted the symbiote's origins on Guardians of the Galaxy.
And they got rebooted again by Cates because Bendis's backstory was hated by everyone.
I also think Venom deserves the title of Arch-Enemy for Spiderman. Also, he should of been kept the way he was in his first appearance. Being a villain who sorely wants to kill Spider-Man and has the know-how to achieve it is way better then being an anti-hero. We have enough of those.
I'm also not fond of the new "Venom".
I do think Flash Thompson Venom is awesome, or at least he was when he had his own solo comic, before being put in the GOTG and sidelined, but I agree that Venom needs to go back to basics. He was so much more compelling as a villain.
While I do prefer Venom as an enemy of Spider-Man, I do feel like Green Goblin earned his title as one of Spidey's archenemies, considering he was responsible for a LOT of bad things in Peter's life. Of course, given Norman Osborn's recent graduation to an enemy to the Avengers, I guess that does leave a spot open. Too bad Venom's too busy cycling between being a straight villain, an anti-hero, or whatever the writers want him to be, leaving Doctor Octopus as the only remaining member of the Big Three Spidey Villains as his nemesis.
However, I also really like the idea that Venom, Goblin, and Doctor Octopus all collectively share the spot for Spider-Man's archenemy, in a similar vein as how The Cheetah, Ares, and Circe are generally considered Wonder Woman's three archenemies (even though in recent times Circe's been getting the edge out, because The New 52).
