I respect him for saying that bit about burn out with regular jobs vs burn out as a TH-camr. Thats a big thing people would get on the entitled youtubers about.
Ive been working a regular job for 7 years and im burnt out lmao , what they do seems fun , id love to be able to wake up and dedicate my time to doing the same shit but i gotta leave it till the last thing literally cause i gotta treat the thing i hate as a priority , so i think thats where that frustration comes from. Although i will say instead of being butthurt about it I urge anyone thats persuing the same thing to give just a LITTLE bit of time to your craft , being jealous and hating on others peoples success blows , we should all be working towards something 😤

5:15 i think its also important to note that when the animators first came onto youtube they encouraged their audiences to have patience and support the community, because as 1 staff teams (at first) they needed other animators to upload (and even vary their uploads) in order for audiences to have a video every week (and that was if you were watching 10+ youtubers, they'd only post 1 every 2 or 3 or 5 months). And that really helped mellow out the audiences in some way because the audiences became fans of everyone and grew into a much larger, more patient community.
I always love seeing the animation coummnity talk about there expereince and seeing the person behind the charater, James, Adam and Becca along with others like Jaiden,Illyssa,Emily etc have really helped me through things and still do whenther it be hardship in life, bad moods or just filling the day :)
Im getting so many mixed emotions right now. Seeing the people who made my childhood and insipired me to take art and animation in the same room after years feels so... nostalgic? Recently won a 2nd place medal for an art competition in school too so watching this while knowing these people are the reason i have a medal to call my own now is just, i really cant explain it. Just, thank you for making my childhood and making me realise what i want and love to do in life.

I really didn’t appreciate seeing the animators curse. I thought they were family friendly and now I’ve learned that that is not the case. I will be boycotting storytime animators from this day forward.

I love all of these TH-camrs sm! James was the first TH-camr I remember watching as a little 8 year old. Then it spiraled from him, to Jaiden, then Rebecca, then Ilyssa, Andy, Timtom, Adam, Ell, Bryson, and so forth. Thanks for all the memories!

Nah, when James said, “do you want us to suffer more?” I was like, finally someone said it. Like, I get that people feel like quality everywhere is going down or things aren’t the way things used to be, but people got to eat! Be glad that they actually LIKE doing this stuff and would still do it if they were doing something else. I think we’re romanticizing the past too much like old people but even old people TEND to learn to accept things as they are.
This is really great, and my first assumptions video. I'd love to see more of this, squashing assumptions we make about people online and knowing what is real; being better informed is important 😮

@AnthonyPadilla can you bring together some of the TH-camrs who are quitting recently to do an episode of Assumptions and maybe reflect/respond on some of the discourse about their stepping away? Obviously some folks are maybe just needing time off camera all together and not open to do something like that. But it would be nice to hear these creators support one another in their stepping away and discuss the stressors that come with being "on" all the time and the nuances of being a content creator

WOW, their videos have budgets. Man i gotta step my game up. My budget is $0
I wished they spent a bit more time on the “the team makes it feel more like a business and less personal.” I think that’s true. Videos take so much work to make, and having a team would make things so much easier, but then it kinda feels like… not what I subscribed for.
And that might be more of a qualm with TH-cam being a career and so produced now more than with animators specifically, but if I wanted to watch a fully produced cartoon, I could just watch Netflix. Idk, TH-cam had (has?) a different feel than corporate shows because it’s just some guy or friends making the videos at home. Now, TH-cam suggests a “starter equipment” kit for new creators that is like $5k. :/
It just feels so… soulless. If it was friends making videos together and creating a studio themselves, that is different than someone being hired on. It’s a little hard to explain, but I definitely feel the “it’s business now” on big channels.

Reminder that animation used to be full studios of people where you have one person who does some backgrounds, several script writers, animators for only one or two characters, etc. even with having teams there is still an unfair amount of work being done by the TH-camrs and their teams due to expectations from us and also the current standards for online creators

I really loved this show concept, bringing guests back to talk with eachother, it worked so well and this was a great group together.

Awesome insights, I think I related to Rebecca's answers the most -- the joy of animation in being able to create life from drawings is so well put. As a stick figure animator I also liked it when James mentioned stick figures. Thank you for sharing these wonderful peoples' thoughts!
